“Nice hotel near convention center”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

This is a very nice hotel that is situated nicely if you need to attend the oddly rabbit-warrenish convention center. The walk to the convention center is 10 min, max; however, the hotel is a ways away from the interesting center of the city.
Pros: very attentive and courteous staff, beautiful lobby/bar, nice rooms. I had a king bed that was actually one mattress, as opposed to the common european practice of pushing two singles together. The free morning breakfast buffet was fine.
Cons: sketchy internet, service in the bar erratic (reminds me of the Tom Waits line, "and I can't find my waitress with a geiger counter").
Overall I'd gladly go back if I had business at the convention center.

The lobby was elegant, but once in the room, felt disappointed. No sitting area, the window was high to look out of. The bedding was boring, only a thin sheet, didn't want to use the bedspread, felt dirty. The pillows were long, thin & just plain flat. The bathroom was beautiful, so this upped my opinion, a little. As for wifi, forget it, this really sucked! Plus, no ice machine & refrigerator was for their products.

This is quite possibly one of the worst "five star" hotels I have ever stayed in.

The rooms are not cleaned and in severe need of decoration. On going into my room, the first thing that struck me was a vile stench. There was no tea or coffee (which apparently you have to pay €25 per night for, despite having paid close to £300 / €400 for two nights – I have never been to a “five star” hotel with no drinks facilities).

The bathroom was disgraceful. A hair was left over in the bathtub, water staining on the shower glass and the sink itself was chipped and had not been cleaned.

The walls were stained with what appeared to be blood, the corners were chipped and there were holes in the curtains.

The bed only had one pillow on each side, with no extras in the cupboards. The cupboard itself was extremely thin.

The desk had stains in them and the room service menu was old and covered in greasy fingerprints.

I have had better stays in a £50 per night Travellodge or Premier Inn.

The wifi was extremely intermittent meaning that I couldn’t get the work done for a critical business meeting the next day.

I complained and was moved to a slightly cleaner room but it was not much better than the last.

To add to this, the decoration of the room is much tackier in reality than seen on the professional hotel photos. It looks like a cheap brothel that is passing itself off as a 'bunga bunga' palazzo.

Breakfast was ok, but definitely not worth 25 euros, especially as some of the food on the hotplate (such as beans, sausages and potatoes) was cold.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Room Tip: Avoid, avoid, avoid. If you have to stay here, check your room before hand.

Previously I wrote a review abut the hotel. The idea is that I stayed in the hotel many times and was always satisfied, but during my stay in October 13 everything went wrong.

A month after I had submitted a review I received email from their Customer Relations manager with the explanation of the reasons that caused some troubles during my last stay. It was really nice touch, because they really tried to explain why they had to move me to another room, which means that it was not just copy-past response: "Sorry-Sorry…bla-bla-bla". They also offered me a free night as a compensation. I used that night in May 14. They originally booked for me a Level room with breakfast for 2, but on arrival upgraded to Junior Suite. The CR manager went to greet us at the front desk. It was really nice to had a chat with her about the hotel and my last stay there.

The stay was aver all pleasant (like all of them except one in October). The room was spacious and well equipped. Level rooms and suites come with the Level lounge access. I can say it's one of the best hotel lounges that I've seen in Europe and the US. During the day they serve snacks, fruits, sweets and for the evening the wide variety of alcohol. All staffs were very nice and well-skilled (but it's again as always).

Summing up, it's really nice to see how the hotel cares about guest's satisfaction and can do their home work in case something went wrong. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the great service and great hotel!

Room Tip: If you can be upgraded for a minor fee to a Level room - I would suggest to do that.

The Melia is a very good hotel to stay at if you have a convention at the MiCo. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to the convention center, although one of the last the street crossings is not very pedestrian-friendly. The room itself was clean, quiet and beautifully decorated. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of offerings. The staff was friendly, and the hotel was easy walking distance from the Lotto stop on the red line Metro. I gave it only four stars since the part of town that the MiCo is located at would not be my first choice for staying in Milan. But if you have a convention at the MiCo, the Melia is THE place to stay.

We stayed at the Melia Milano for a week in early May, 2014. It is a very elegant property in a nice residential setting with several very good restaurants within a short walking distance and a very good sized grocery store one block over. It is convenient to the M1 (red) line on the subway - less than 5 minute walk - and you at the Duomo in less than 15 minutes. Access to the two main train stations takes a single line change but it too is 15-20 minutes. The MiCo convention center is a 10 minute walk. The property is well decorated with real Italian works which adds to the property elegance. The rooms are good size and are very well decorated. The inner rooms look to the service courtyard and one can periodically hear trash being emptied, etc., but that is usually short-lived. The breakfasts are outstanding and the wait staff very attentive; most staff speak English well or can quickly get a colleague if there is a language issue. We did not try the in-house restaurants. The service was excellent except for some strange reason - we could not get an iron/ironing board. Fortunately, we were there for a conference and an 'ironing room' was set up in the business center for conference users but otherwise, would have had to use the clothing service. I felt the property was extremely expensive but classy, and with the conference rate, it was merely very expensive. It did have 'personality' unlike many conference hotels. When we were there, the Inter Milano professional football (soccer) team was staying there, so that gives you an idea of the quality level of the hotel. We would stay there again, although only for a conference at the conference rate because the rooms are quite expensive.

Dear rhcav,

Thank you for sharing with us your experience at Meliá Milano. It is great for us to see that your stay was a pleasant one and the hotel facilities and services, our location as well as the staff services exceed your expectations. We are proud to receive such positive comments and particularly for our staff who we consider as our most important asset. Regarding iron issue Italian law prohibits the use of the iron into the room and for this reason we must set up an ironing room to satisfied your needs. For your next stay with us, we recommend you to visit Alacena restaurant, our in-house a la carte restaurant with innovative Mediterranean cuisine and a wide selection of Italian wine. Thanks for your review and we very much look forward to welcoming you back. Please visit our website melia.com for special rates and our latest promotions.

I stayed here for a conference in May 2014. Conveniently located within walking distance of MiCo and Lotto metro station (on M1 line).
Not the most exciting neighbourhood, but a few nice restaurants and coffee bars.
Good hotel, great breakfast, lots of meeting rooms, attentive service. Late cleaning service some days. The fitness room was ok.
My room, 122, was positively huge, other colleagues had more normally sized rooms.
