In spite of being close to the main train station this is an upscale, classy hotel. Staff were friendly, helpful and patient with us. Max in the bar was a pleasure after a long day and great for warming us up for a night out. Breakfast was first class too.

Room Tip: Try to get into the new building across the street. It is quieter and rooms are better appointed.

Location is handy for the (impressive) main station and around a 20 minute walk into central Milan. Service was obliging, extras such as complimentary soft drinks very welcome. Bedroom was rather small and a little dark. Good modern bathroom, lovely cascade shower. Buffet breakfast plentiful. Front desk recommended nearby restaurant 'Mama Rosa' -- not a great choice, despite what previous contributors have written -- will review separately. On balance would recommend because of the staff and the extras.

All the staff at Hotel Berna made our stay so very special and enjoyable. This is one of nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. It’s friendly, all the staff are helpful and thoughtful. It’s very comfortable and we just loved the little touches; the free minibar of soft drinks topped up daily; the choice of pillows and duvet; the text messages to welcome us and wish us on our way. And the bath duck!
It's ideally situated for the Statzione Centrale and the Metro. There are some good restuarants in the vacinity and the buffet breakfast in the hotel is splendid.
We got a 59% discount off one night's charges by taking up the special offer of staying +/- 7 days from my birthday, but the full rates are very reasonable for the quality of the service.
The shower in our room (104) was a bit small, but everything worked and it was immaculately clean. Thank you Angelica, and sorry about all the coriandoli from Carnevale...
We'll definitely be back again soon to have another great experience!

From check-in, through breakfast and room cleaning to check-out the service at Hotel Berna was first class.

We were upgraded to a superior room in the blue building across the road from the main hotel. The room was very nice with a comfortable bed and very clean bathroom. However it is never ideal to be located away from the main building, especially for breakfast.

Breakfast itself was excellent, a large buffet of fresh pastries, doughnuts and croissants, hot dishes of surprisingly good scrambled egg and excellent bacon. Juicer to make fresh carrot juice alongside orange and grapefruit juices. Toaster and a selection of breads. A range of coffees available from the waiter, both a latte macchiato and a cappucino had good flavour but could have been hotter.

In unseasonably warm weather the breakfast room was uncomfortably warm and the air conditioner in our room was not working.

The hotel does not have a restaurant for evening meals but there is an extensive menu of room service food supplied by an outside caterer, though we did not use the service.

Very close to the central station in a reasonably quiet area, though we were woken one morning by the refuse collectors. Quite a way from the centre of the city but the entrance to the metro is only a few minutes walk.

starding with the place, the neiborhood, there is also a "gentlens house" on a side and in fornt of the hotel.
the people of the hotel try hard to make a good service ,but did not save it.
is very close to de station, but in this case, the is bad, because it is a very dirty region snd very busy(it was good to run away to the airport, but it was all)
the bulding is from the mid 20's ,but the is also very bad. the room was too smal and the shower does nat fit me.
so, try some where else.
and i pay 275 euros, and whem a was checking in there was a couple who ask for a room and the ofher for 250 euros...
rummmmm

Customerrelationship, General Manager at Hotel Berna, responded to this review, 8 March 2014
Dear Lairton,

We are saddened and also a bit surprised for your feedback.

Our location, close to the main train central station, is considered to be a perfect base for visiting Milan and is most convenient if traveling to and from all Milan airports via shuttle – bus service.

Guests are literally dropped off just few hundreds metres away from our front door. Also, being
close to the tube station allows our guests the convenience of using the metro to travel in and around Milan freely and economical (the Duomo Cathedral and the city centre are only four stops away).

The area - and the hotel itself, which is located in a street offering 13 hotels (4 & 3 star) - is safe and tranquil with many restaurants in close proximity too.

Corso Buneos Aires, the longest shopping street in Milan, is at only 5 minute walking distance.

It is not considered a dangerous or dodgy area: however, Milan is no different from any other large European city and we urge all guests to use prudence when out and about, especially after dark.

The building is of the late 80’s and undergoes continuous renovations every year, offering our guests several room typologies (3 for single use and 3 for double use), which vary in size, interiors, amenities and other services.

During the time of your stay it was taking place in Milan the Fashion week, hotels were almost fully booked and the rates varied according to the demand.

Best regards,

Carlo Fontana, GM & Staff

Cute little hotel with a lot of charm and character. Easily the best service I received anywhere in Europe (and I was there for 8 nights) ... and better than most hotels I've been in, in the US also. Someone was always bringing me bottled water, helping with bags/directions, etc. ... no waiting to be asked. And the breakfast - WOW ... I was unfortunately dealing with a stomach bug from earlier in the week, but when I let the waiter know that, I was brought freshly made carrot juice (they have a juicer right there). I didn't know this, but confirmed later that it's great for stomach upset.

The room was almost incidental, just a place to sleep, but it was clean and the bed was soft and had everything I needed, including free wifi! And, it's easy walking distance to the Duomo (gorgeous people up and down every street on the way).

If you're going for room size, this isn't your place, but for charm, location, warmth and over-the-top service, Hotel Berna is outstanding.

Room Tip: I had the "comfort room" or something like that - the least expensive available, I think...

Spent 3 nights at the Hotel Berna in Milano Italy. Staff was very professional and courteous. They looked very proud to be working for Hotel Berna and that extended to their appearance and interaction with guests.

I had a Comfort room, which by American standards was a small but very comfortable room. Perfect for business travel. Desk to work at, free wi-fi.

Check in and check out was easy and quick.

Breakfast was a real treat. Included in my price was access to the breakfast hall. The staff inside the breakfast room are great. The options for breakfast ran from the typical Italian breakfast of pastries, coffee, hot chocolate, to American tastes of scrambled eggs and bacon, to egg bakes, etc. VERY GOOD!

Another surprise in the room is a stocked mini bar included in the cost of the room. The bar contained Coke, Diet Coke, Fruit Juices, and Water. All restocked every day and again free of charge.

Hotel Berna is two blocks from the Milano Centrale train station and close to tourist sites like the Duomo and Arcade. Decent dining options within walking distance nearby.

Would happily return to this hotel if I ever need to travel to Milan again.
