I have now stayed at the hotel Berna on quite a few occassions.I Isend all my AUSTRALIAN friends there,The service is excellent friendly and very helpful nothing is too much trouble. As well the location is so good walking distance to the station ,restaurants and shopping areas and a short train ride to the Duomo I will certainly return.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the new rooms quiter and more modern and still very affordable

Wonderful 4-star hotel that's very convenient to the train & metro stations and easy access everywhere in Milan. Amazing assortment & great service for breakfast. Perfect spot for our first few recovery days after arriving in Italy for a three week vacation.

We stayed in three locations this trip and Hotel Berna's breakfasts were by far the best! The selection was extensive and the staff was attentive.

A quaint hotel within walking distance of the train station makes it the perfect choice for travelers. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, especially Max, the bartender. The breakfasts are incomparable. We look forward to returning.

This was a very comfortable hotel ideally located close to the central station and a metro station. It is also quite possible to stroll from here to the duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The hotel is located in two buildings on opposite sides of the road. Our room was big with a good bathroom. The breakfast, included, was sumptuous.

We only had one night in Milan as a stop over to France and where better to spend it than Hotel Berna. It was pouring with rain and the Hotel provided a real Haven. The service, the welcome and the complimentary free drink and free soft drinks in our fridge were very generous. The breakfast was amazing and they catered for people on special diets.
Our room was very comfortable although not over large. We loved the special touch of the free yellow duck in our bathroom.
There was free tea and coffee and cake available anytime and we could also make a hot drink in our room.
A very generous place with excellent value for money..
It was only a two minute walk to the train station.

We booked this hotel because it had the best tripadvisor ratings for hotels near the central station in Milan. We had a 1-day stopover here. Knowing that there would be 3 of us (we travelled with a 10-year old), we booked the highest category of room available, the superior room. The website said that would be very comfortable for 3 adults.
First impression was disappointing, the lobby brings you back to the 80's, old sofas, lots of burgundy and dark colours, dark wood with gold tone accessories (-ve). Clean but very old. The check-in was smooth and the room was ready at 2pm, which was a nice surprise (+ve). We were told to leave the key in the reception each time we leave the room. There was a table set up in the lobby with teas, coffee, water and cookies or pastries (+ve).
Our room (26) turned out to be on the main floor (-ve for us), right by the elevator (-ve). The sofa bed was already made up (+ve), but the room was very small (-ve) and again the decor of the same decade as lobby (-ve). Website pictures show more spacious superior rooms with 2 double beds, which would have been much preferred to the arrangement with a king and sofa bed for our daughter. With the sofa bed open, one had to walk sideways to get to the other side of the king bed. The beds were very comfortable, the sheets very clean and multiple pillows to satisfy different preferences (+ve). The bathroom had shower stall, bidet and toilet, no bath tub and no space to put toiletries (-ve). Amenities limited with a shower gel/shampoo combo and no conditioner (-ve). Ancient hair dryer on the wall, one of those with a vacuum-like tube and little power (-ve). Lots of high quality towels (+ve). In the morning, there were a few small ants on the floor (-ve).
Only one English channel (-ve), thankfully BBC, but that's not much entertainment. Multiple Russian and Al Jazeera channels. Good wifi for multiple logins was a big +ve.
We slept well, but we were exhausted and one of us used earplugs, so hard to say if the elevator noise is troublesome, it wasn't for us.
Breakfast was included in our rate. It starts at 6:30am till 11am (+ve). The room looks again like the set of Columbo: burgundies, golds and beiges, clean but very dated. It was an excellent buffet, with good selection of cold cereals, cold cuts, rolls, yoghurts, pastries, freshly squeezed orange, grapefruit and even freshly made carrot juice. Eggs, other than scrambled, available for additional EUR 6. Everything was freshly made and delicious. Espresso or cappuccino made to order. Service was prompt clearing away from the tables and refreshing the buffet. Overall the breakfast was excellent (+ve). The staff at breakfast and everywhere else was polite and friendly (+ve).
I would recommend this hotel for people who arrive late in the day, for 1 night and travel by themselves. I don't believe the room of the size we had was suitable for 3 people at all and felt misled and disappointed. I booked more than 3 months in advance, yet felt like we were given the worst possible "superior" room in the hotel. I was glad that it was only for one night.

Customerrelationship, General Manager at Hotel Berna, responded to this review, 13 July 2014
Dear Canadiana2008,

we are grateful for your detailed feedback.

We understand that your experience has been partially affect by your „first impression“ whern entering the lobby.

For all our readers it is useful to say that our interior design and decor, including most of the rooms, have a classic „old“ style though undergo continuous renovation work every year. We understand that our „look and feel“ may not meet every guest taste and for this reason we invite all our guests to have a look at the pictures on our website.

With regard to the size of the room, our main goal is to offer our guest a very honest and transparent information on the services provided. In effect our rooms for three adults are considered (and advertised) to be a double room with an “additional rollaway bed” and this is why we don’t name them triple room. Due to this reason, it’s fair to say that the third person is staying free of charge in those room typologies, whereas a small supplement is charged only for covering the additional expenses for our buffet breakfast and the bed linens.

We are so happy to read that you have appreciated the quality of our buffet breakfast and, above all, the general friendly and polite attitude of our Staff. You satisfaction means really a lot to us.

Please come back and stay with us again.

Carlo Fontana, GM & Staff
