“A good night's sleep!”
Reviewed 22 April 2009

We found this hotel online, booked with booking.com which was a link from tripadvisor.com and the hotel was promoting their special matresses... I noticed it but didn't really expect much, but, the chain has obviously decided that their unique selling point should be the quality of the rest you'll have in their hotels. The bed was fantastic, really confortable, they also offer a range of pillows for all tastes, and the room had an elextric blind also that made the room really dark. Waking up was hard, falling back asleep again really easy! Just what you want for a break away from the madness of work for a long weekend.

Other than that, the hotel is a good 4*. Well located on a street adjacent to Corso Beunos Aires, one of the main shopping streets. From the door it's about a 15 minute walk into the historical centre, Piazza Duomo, and the haute couture shopping.

The hotel staff were always attentive, except for one older lady on reception when we returned to pick up our bags before leaving for the airport, she was maybe busy, or we're no longer customers at that point, but whatever, she didn't ruin our stay or my day, she could haev just been a bit politer when she was ordering our cab!

If you look for a downside, the gym is limited, but that's about it. Breakfast was good, the bar staff and all the other reception staff were friendly and helpful.

I was really pleased with this hotel. The rooms were modern and clean and the bathroom (all marble) was great (deep bathtub, bidet and shower). The staff was helpful and courteous. The location was good, about a 20 min walk from the central railway station and close to the city center. There was a huge king sized bed (with many pillows), flat screen TV, mini fridge, and plenty of storage space.

In the morning there was a breakfast buffet that had a ton of food. We were expecting maybe some cold cuts and bread, but they had: made-to-order cappuccino, scrambled eggs, bacon, three types of croissants (cream, chocolate and plain), yogurt, musli, sausage, cereal, ham, cheese, bread, fresh squeezed juice, etc. It was great.

  • Liked — Clean, modern
  • Disliked — Shower took forever to warm up

Work required us to have this hotel. Unfortunately the 'renovations' were not mentioned. We noticed when booking in and were told "no problem" (ha, ha!) The room was cramped to say the least and the bathroom was shower (quite a good one actually) toilet and bidet with a reasonable vanity area. Work area was minimal and the Internet prices were about $22.00AUS per day! We overlooked the service bay area so were woken most days by delivery services or by the workmen starting early. Breakfast was okay but VERY crowded and you had to get everything yourself, no service at all (unless you required a special coffee). Front desk were always busy but practical (but always made you feel as if you were asking too much - expressions for me, I guess). Position of the hotel was not bad - ten minute walk to Duomo and Galleria (shopping) and main street was around the corner. But (personally) not an area i would ever come back to.

While we had booked on Expedia, we were not offered an upgrade on arrival like other guests. However, our standard room was fine and the bathing / shower areas was a good size. We were amused by the television audio feed into the bathroom. The air-conditioning worked well, but we were a little disappointed that we didn’t have any tea / coffee in the room. We were provided with one pair of slippers and bathrobe (despite the fact that there were two of us in the room). The pillows were a little soft, but I was able to order another pillow and stuffed them into the same pillowcase.

We found out that the hotel restaurant had closed 2 days earlier for renovations by reading a poster in one of the lifts. Sadly, we were not forewarned of this. As there were lots of restaurants and cafes in a 2 – 3 block radius, this was not really a problem. There were also 2 supermarkets within a couple of minutes of the hotel.

The breakfast buffet was a makeshift affair set up in a subterranean conference room of the Starhotel Ritz. Although the choice of food was fine, it was hardly an attractive experience. It was also very, very quiet.

I would highly recommend the Pizzeria Restaurant located at Via Vitruvio 8 (just off Buenos Aires), which is open on a Sunday. It had amazing food and the portions were huge.

When we checked out of our room at 10:00 am on the Monday, we naturally asked if they could store our luggage until the afternoon, as our flight was not until 7:00 pm and we had a meeting in town. We were only then informed that the hotel was closing down at noon for renovations!!!!! So we had to drag our luggage into the centre of town and to the meeting. We then had to drag our luggage back to the now closed hotel to meet the driver at 5:00 pm. By the time we got back to the hotel at 4:00 pm, the hotel was now fully-boarded up for the renovations with lots of construction guys walking about. It would have been nice to have been pre-warned about this – either from the hotel or Expedia.

We would not have booked this hotel if we had known about the renovations / closing down.

  • Liked — Very clean and modern.
  • Disliked — The beds were hard and the pillows soft.

This hotel had been given not so good reveiws. We really liked it.
We arrived at the hotel, our bags were carried in, they very efficiently sorted our paperwork out and immediately upgraded us to a kingsize suite, we only booked a superior double. They then had our bags taken up to our room.
The room itself was very chic with lovely furniture, lighting and all mod cons. a large flat screen in the lounge area and one in the bedroom. Lovely big windows very big bed. The bathroom was amazing. Extremely clean with a brilliant shower over the bath. Very impressive over all.
All together it was a really pleasant stay and I would definitely go back there again. The staff were helpful and friendly the room was 10 out of 10.

Starhotel Ritz is a very disappointing experience. Rooms are small, gloomy and depressing and any request for service or help was either ignored or denied. No irons or steamers for clothing, although you can send out for their servicing (24+ hours later). A/C is not kept on even during warm months, which keeps both the rooms and hallways very hot. The hotel lobby and common areas are depressing and corporate and the staff is a mixed bag of rude. Not recommended unless you're desperate.
