I have never seen - in many hotels in the world - so small room - called "superior". I have reserved the room on Best Western website as a "very good internet price" and that's why I have got the worse room in hotel. After very long talks, with many nervous, impolite staff has changed my room for a little bigger, but only a little. Metro is close to hotel - that’s thru, but is also under the hotel, so you can hear it and feel it every 30 second from 5.00 AM to 11.00 PM. Elegant from outside and in the lobby, but it is only facade

Dear Touris,

thank you for reviewing Best Western Cristoforo Colombo Hotel.
I have been indeed surprised in reading a review of January 2008!
Regarding the room , the size is standard in Italy. We are indeed a 4 stars hotel. Rating standards differ from country and region, they are based on several factors and are given after a very strict process and reviewed periodically
The hotel has totally been restructured in 2005. We are sorry but we are not able to offer more spacious rooms in comparison to the classical stardards. It's normal for a traveller that comes to Milan for the first time to remain some disappointed respect the spaces.
The proximity to the METRO (Porta Venezia in Corso Buenos Aires) is one of our plus but at the same time it can result annoying for the one whom has not accustomed there.
We are so glad about our staff that is very professional and friendly. We are proud of our experienced staff and the fact they are always on hand to assist our guests in anyway possible.
Please, give us another chance to show you what great value for money we are!

Best regards,

Andrea Perego & staff

Just returned from a fantastic 6 night break in Venice and Milan. The Best Western hotels in Milan and Venice were wonderful with a relaxing atmostphere and friendly staff. All furnishings, decor and design are stunning.

The Milan hotel is in a great central location near the metro Porta Venezia but with a beautiful park two minutes walk away. You are in middle of all the trendy shops and the bustle of central Milan but enter into a cool relaxing and stylish environment in the hotel. The Milan room was well furnished with air-conditioning too (really important in the summer in Milan)! and the buffet breakfast was very good with excellent service.

The Junior Suite in the hotel in Venice in St. Elena was stunning and it is only a short walk to the Venice Biennale. It's located in a quiet and green area just behind a large park with easy access to central Venice either on foot (a pleasant walk along the seafront) or on the vaporetto (waterbus) .

This was excellent value for money and we would love to go back there tomorrow if only we could! We had a great time exploring Milan: - Castello Sforeszco, Duomo, Galleria, Corso Garibaldi (recommended for restaurants with excellent food at reasonable prices) and of course Santa Maria delle Grazie (to see The Last Supper). We also did a day trip to Como from Milan by train which is brilliant and cheap. There is a Russian art exhibition on there until the end of July (Kandinsky, Chagall, Malevic and Filiov).

In Venice there is too much to see in three days but we crammed a lot in. One day in the main Biennale exhibition (5 minutes walk away) other days exploring other exhibitions in Guidecca and San Giorgio Maggiore before seeing the main sights and catching the train to Milan. We found interesting back street local restaurants at reasonable prices too!

If you are interested in exploring sights and seeing loads of art, design, architecture as well as eating great Italian food then both hotels are excellent bases for visiting the north of Italy.

We stayed in the hotel for 6 nights, managed to receive an upper floor room. The rooms are quite small but nicely designed, well equiped, the hotel was recently refurbished. Breakfast was very good , classical continental type. One of the best things is that the hotel is close to the metro line and the Duomo\ center of the town is several minutes away. Secondarily, Corso Buenos Aires and the area are a huge shopping and restaurant area, at prices cheaper than those in the center of the town. Might be that the lower floor rooms with a view to the road are more noisy during daytime.

We stayed at the milano fiera best wester hotel in feb 2009. It was an amazing trip to Milan made even better due to the fact that i was proposing to my girlfriend. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and it was a perfect get away in a beautiful city. We didn't get to the hotel until late on the Friday night and as we had to change flights in Amsterdam we were really tired so didn't have chance to take a look around.

We had no problems checking in and were given our key to our room. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable with twin beds, TV, safe, mini bar, wardrobe and draws. The bathroom had a toilet, basin, bath and very powerful shower. There was a large window next to the bed with an automatic shutter. The first night we closed the curtains and never noticed the switch for the shutters and the next morning the light came flooding in so be sure to find this first.

The hotel is located quite close to a large shopping district with a gigantic shopping mall that is clayed out over 8 floors. They sell so many different designer brands with various price tags. We visited many of these shops and spent all day looking around the area. We visited an amazing church in the district that was pure white and absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately there are very strict rules in this church and as my fiancee had a skirt and tights on they would not let us in. You have to have your legs covered up at all times but we still had a great time just taking pictures of the outside.

As with most countries you have to watch out for con men. We saw quite a few African men and women on the streets selling books. These books were only small and mainly in Italian so we said no and started to walk away. The man then followed us and begged us to buy him his lunch saying he hadn't eaten for days. Just around the corner we had the same experience with another of these beggars. Another real pain is the men who attract the pigeons while you take photos. We were standing in a large park looking at the church and taking pictures when one of the men put some seeds in my fiancee's hand and told me to take a picture. The pigeons flew on her hand before she had chance to say no. We had a few pictures taken and went to walk off as we didn't ask for this to happen. The man stopped me and told me that i owed him 50 euros! I told him that there was no way on this earth that i would pay him so he said he wanted 30 euros. I eventually agreed at 5 euros and walked away very frustrated!!

There are lots of nice restaurants a short walk from the hotel but i would recommend going for a meal earlier rather than later as most of the restaurants were full when we went in. Most of them were lovely restaurants with waiters singing, such a friendly atmosphere but most of the customers were wedged in the corners of the rooms to get as many people in as possible. We walked and walked for what seemed like hours, eventually getting lost, then ended up at a restaurant a few doors down from the hotel where we started! This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the restaurant was lovely, only had a few people in it and it was very reasonably priced. We had two starters, two main meals and 3 bottles of wine that came in jugs and it came to just short of 50 euros, which you wouldn't find in most English restaurants!

We walked down to a small park area after our meal just further down from the hotel where i eventually proposed to my fiancee after almost 3 years. The area was stunning and the lights and atmosphere was perfect so i think she had no choice but to say yes.

All in all i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a romantic break or city break away. It was very cost affective and the hotel was more than average, we would definitely go back to this hotel again.

This was a beautiful hotel in a great location. We could easily walk to the Duomo and all of the flagship designer stores. The metro was also nearby, as well as a couple of good pizza places and lots of shopping on the street.

The room was very nice- there was an outdoor terrace with a table and chairs (not a great view, but nice anyway). It was spacious for being so central, and the bathroom was very nice as well. The front desk was very helpful in finding a local pizza joint for dinner and with any directions we needed.

We had a very pleasant stay and I would come back to try out the spa adjacent to the entrance!!

I stayed here with my boyfriend in Masy for my Birthday and had the best time! The hotel was in a great area, close to lots of great shops and some good bars with outdoor seating. It was really hot when we stayed and the room had air conditioning, which was a God send!
The room itself was a little on the small side, but decorated really nicely and big enough for the 2 of us.
The breakfast was nice, lots of continental things to choose from like croissants, bread, cheese, salami, ham. Or you could do the Brit thing and have bacon and scrambled eggs! Yum yum.
All in all a very memorable trip, would definately stay again!
