Was in Ariston in Milan around mid-July of 2014, it was a good stay. Compact and clean room, good-sized washroom and air conditioning was good, too. Good location! tram is right in front of the hotel. if you like shoe-shopping, this would be an ideal hotel.

Stopped at this hotel when I was at my eurotrip. All my devices were out of charge, i was tired and wanted to rest. It was a big surprise to find affordable hotel with very good service in the centre of Milan. Guy from reception helped me very well with logging to the internet. Even breakfast was surprisingly good. I will recommend this hotel to my friends. Thank you.

I'll try to keep it factual as experienced by my wife and I for the 2 nights we stayed there:-

(i) the fairly central location is probably the best selling point - it is not a 5 minute walk from the Duomo as the hotel's helpful website suggests by the way. It's more like a 10-15 minute walk south of the Duomo away from the more ritzy attractive part of the Duomo surrounding

(ii) the building is old and decor very dated. We noticed that windows were all steel shuttered like you would see in buildings in Beirut or a bad neighbourhood. I later understood this was to keep the outside noise out but be aware that there will be no windows or views from your room

(iii) the receptionist was business-like but helpful. You must surrender your key everytime you leave the hotel.

(iv) I've stayed in many motels and budget hotels before though I must say the room was small and extremely basic including the toilet even by that standard. There was only 1 pillow per person and beddings were worn and tired.

(v) our room was right next to the elevator and the walls were very thin. Our sleep in the first night was interrupted by what appear to be domestic quarrels and fights in the next room. Doors were slammed and things flung across the room - all of which clearly audible through the thin walls.

(v) the wi-fi situation was the most unsatisfactory. Though free, we had to obtain a passcode for each of our device (we had 4 altogether) and must sign out for each code. The convoluted process of signing in for each device took the better part of 15 minutes per device as you had to make special changes to your default connectivity options on your IPAD and BBerry. After every session, you had to re-do the log-in (another 10 minutes) all over again and then it would only work 50% of the time.

There is really nothing wrong with the hotel or staff per se as long you know what you are getting into. If you are not a backpacker or shoestring traveller and you are looking for a slightly more comfortable or luxurious accomodation, you may want to look somewhere else. I think we were slightly misled by their very excellent website as well as listing in our FODOR's guidebook. But then again, everything is relative. As seasoned and more mature travellers, we reminded of a valuable lesson in choosing accomodations - the choice hotel makes a big impact on our view of the city and our holiday experience and the next visit to Milan we will definitely spring for a little more to get the most out of the city.

Room Tip: Do not take a room next to the elevators

After reading some not-so-good reviews about this hotel we were a bit scared, but it was a nice surprise to see that there was nothing wrong with the hotel. The staff was super friendly and willing to help, the location was unbeatable, close to the duomo, and to many restaurants and bars, the room was big and the shutters made the room pitch black and quiet. the breakfast was standard, but with very good coffee. All in all its price-quality ratio.

Room Tip: remember you are in Italy and the staff will joke about and sometimes be very Italian, its not bad s...

June 21 a.m.no hot water, blamed on a power outage in the neighborhood. Street facing windows do not block out busy street noise, streetcars and young people streaming to Porto Ticinese area at night. Intermittent (at best) wi-fi. Constantly had to re-login to the wifi. Tiny room. Service friendly and kind, but not much help w/hot water and internet. Good breakfast. 5 mins Duomo. We paid 145 Euros per night.

Quaint hotel about 10 minutes walk from the Duomo. Stayed here for a business meeting at the MiCO. The staff at the front desk are nice and the man who works the breakfast every morning was endearing. However, this hotel is dated. The rooms are spartan. I have stayed at hostels in my youth that were nicer. My A/C didn't work and I woke up and my room registered 30 degrees centigrade, which was quite hot. The price of the hotel was reasonable for Milano, 140 euro with breakfast, but I would not recommend staying here. There are nicer hotels in Milano.

Let me start out by saying that everything is very expensive in Milan and the hotels are no exception. That said, I think the Ariston was a great bargain when we stayed there. Close enough to all the sights, so you can walk everywhere (10 to 15 minutes walk to the Duomo). Room was good size and clean, same as the bathroom. Reception was a little weird, no one offered to help us with the bags, but that's fine - one less tip. Breakfast was buffet style, good in quality and variety. I would recommend the Ariston especially for its location and value for money.
