“Fantastic location in Milan”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 December 2012

Stayed for 4 nights in December. The main thing about this hotel is its superb location at the historic centre of Milan within walking distance of San Babila station, the Duomo and where all the shopping action is. Plus it is located along a quiet street, and directly opposite is a pharmacy with minimart and also a self-service eatery. The room however was a bit stuffy. Wired internet connection for latop in the room and wifi only in the hotel lobby.

You failed me this time!

I can not name a single reason why this hotel gets such a high score and is in the top 100 hotels in Milan! Yes, location is superb - a 3 minute walking distance from Duomo. But it seems it is one of these cases when the management decided they do not need to do anything else and the location will sell itself just fine. Everything is very old, the room and amenities are from 1980s at best, beds have horrible mattresses, the interior is dirty and unmemorable. And no, not in a charming old fashioned way that some of a smaller b&bs may have. Very disappointed, but since it is a non-refundable booking, will have to stay here...

We wanted to stay in Milan for a night so we were looking for a reasonable priced hotel in the center. Hotel Galileo had an interesting offer and after reading some reviews we thought well why not? So we made reservations five weeks ahead and we even got a confirmation.

When we arrived - driving by car with all the one way streets in Milan and all the traffic can be a hassle - the reception told us. Yeah we are sorry but the hotel is fully booked. Hmm how can that be we booked five weeks ahead? We were pointed to a sister hotel - Hotel Brunelleschi - and that was it.

We did get the receipt and we got the impression from this that because we got a nice deal it seems to be ok for the hotel that they treat us this way. Why not inform us about the situation ahead? They have all our contact details? Or even better do not make an offer you cannot keep. Well we do not recommend the hotel based on this and we will definitely not coming back no matter what the deal is.

Location is great indeed, just few minutes from the Duomo. If you're looking only for location, sure! But everything else is average or bellow. Maybe in the '80 was ok, now it has a sad decrepit looking to it. I found it expensive for what it had to offer, but, well, central. Watch out if you're not an early person, breakfast might run out. Bad coffee.

Hotel Galileo was a pleasant stay. The breakfast included with the room was good and had variety. Location was excellent. Staff were very helpful. Free wifi in the lobby. We would definitely stay again.
