“Charming helpful staff”
Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

We had three nights here. Wonderful fine linen on a really comfortable bed. Charming welcoming and efficient staff. We ate good light meals in the secluded garden and the bar. The metro is a short walk away. Right opposite is the fabulous trattoria Carpaccio. We went fairly late to lunch on Sunday and had a wonderful meal. Full of local families which is always a good sign. The hotel breakfast had an extensive range of sweet and savoury items with lots of fresh and preserved fruit and good scrambled egg freshly cooked.
They cater well for gluten free diet though it is best to notify the desk the night before and then they will have gluten free bread ready. We would happily stay again.

Overnight stay. Quirky decorations, Room suitable for our needs. It was all we needed. Breakfast very good, Staff very obliging. Very good, reasonably priced reastaurant/ pizzeria over the road and a short distance along.Close enough to train station to manage our luggage ourselves - about 15 minutes walk.

This was a good choice in explring the city. You can easily acess the hotel by taking the metro from the train station after taking the train from the airport. It is not hard to find and is located close to all of the major sights. We arrived early and our room was not yet ready, so they were kind enough to offer us a drink and refreshments while we waited. The staff was great, they helped with all of the arrangements and even printed out the train schedules for us for the next part of the trip! Yes, the rooms are small and the bed is harder than what we are used to, but this is ITALY, all of the beds are going to be like this. And YES, the showers will be very small. If you want to stay at 4 seasons they are the same everywhere. Yes, there are poor migrants close by, they don't bother anyone or try to solicit money, it's perectly safe. In Milan youy have to keep a very close eye on your wallet at all times, I recommend using Pacsafe wallets and backpacks, these are the best for securing your stuff. I only use them during European travel and never had any issues. Pickpockets will try something when you are at a train station, especially at Milan Centrale, so be sure that you have your stuff secured BEFORE you enter the station.

Very friendly English speaking staff. Great recommendations for restaurants. Room was reasonable size and seemed bigger than it actually was. Plenty of room for us. We would definitely stay here again.

I want to be careful writing this review because it is clear that this hotel tries hard to stand out and a lot of the issues with my stay are not the fault of the hotel. The staff was courteous and helpful. Our room was an upgrade (at a cost) and was adequate, although very quirky. We had room 138 which has the "display" shower with a shade that comes up or down leading to a view from the bedroom. The hotel is interestingly decorated. I got the impression that some of the non upgraded rooms are pretty small.

My biggest problem with staying at this hotel is with the neighborhood. About a block away there is a park in which dozens of seemingly homeless immigrants hang out all day and night. It reminds me of bad parts of American cities. There are several corners near the hotel where there are several people hanging out all the time. Not one of these people was rude, discourteous or threatening in any way and I didn't feel unsafe. Still, it wasn't pleasant during a vacation stay to feel like you are in a run down section of town. There appeared to be a lot of closed down businesses near bye. While walking by the park, one street over there were ambulances and some type of incident on at least one occasion. It was a blight and isn't the type of area that I would knowingly choose to vacation in if I had other options.

Breakfast was adequate, not great. The hot food consisted of pre-cooked eggs in a serving buffet platter which we found undercooked each day. The pastries and breads were outstanding. There was a wide and good variety of cold breakfast items.

If you are going to stay at the Sanpi make sure that before you arrive you know how get there. We arrived at the train station during a taxi strike. The hotel isn't too far from the station, about 10 minute walk, but it is difficult to find unless you know where you are going. Milan is a big city and you can wander in the wrong direction trying to find it. On our way while lugging suitcases, a swarm of gypsies surrounded me and went after my wallet. Best to know the direct route to the hotel.

Again, this is a difficult review because we liked the people working in the hotel, without exception they were nice and helpful. Next time though, I'd stay in another part of town.

Dear Mr Michaelnw,

Thank you for taking time to write a review about Sanpi hotel Milan.
We most appriciated your comments about the staff and service of our hotel. We invest heavely in trying to provide top costumer care for all our guests.

We would like to ensure you that our eggs are by no means pre-cooked, but freshly made daily. We can ask to our chef to change the cooking time, instead. However, we have never had complaints about our scrambled eggs, but there is always a first time!

As you said, the walking distance from the Central Station is only ten minutes and our guests can easily find the way to the Sanpi hotel, since it's all straight forward Via Napotoriani and Piazza Cincinnato, than turn into Via Lazzaretto and after crossing Viale Tunisia, turn left into Via Lazzaro Palazzi, once there you cannot go wrong.

Our hotel is located in one of the most central areas of the city of Milan.
Because of its easy access to the historical center and the Cathedral, we can say that the 60% of all the hotels in Milan are located in this area. There is plently of restaurant and bars around our neighborhood and many artists and V.I.Ps live in this area. Besides it Sanpi hotel Milan is next to Corso Buenos Aires, Europe's longest shopping avenue!

Thank you for choosing Milan Sanpi hotel for your stay in Milan.

Best regards,

the Direction

We are delighted that you enjoyed our hospitality, staff and breakfast.

We are very sorry that the garbage truck woke you up early in the morning and that you were not satisfied with the twin bed solution.

Next time we will make sure to assign you a room which faces our lovely and quiet garden and please ask for a double bed room at the reception.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcoming you back to our hotel, in the future.
