I was booked to stay at Hotel Sanpi during a recent business trip to Milan. This is a very old-looking hotel with poor rooms and mediocre amenities. The rooms are in a desperate need of an update. I arrived at the hotel before 9am, due to an early flight arrival. I was told that a room would be available only after 2pm. I was given an option to leave my luggage at the reception desk until a room became available, and to use a single washroom located in the lobby. Finally, I was given a single room around 1pm, since I was traveling alone. This was the smallest and most dingy looking room I have ever seen in my travels. The room had very poor lighting (only two dim sconces), dusty cabinets, an outdated bathroom with stained fittings, and the smallest-ever shower stall. The table in the room doubled as a TV stand, and hence was practically useless to be used for, say, keeping a laptop while working, or writing. The bed was short and I had to fold my legs at the knee while sleeping (I'm 6' tall). There was no constant flow of warm water from the shower. It would suddenly turn cold for 5 seconds every 1-2 minutes. The staff were ok and probably did the best they could given the condition of this hotel. The breakfast options were good. The hotel is around 3 minutes by walk to Porta Venezia and 5 min by walk to Repubblica metro stops. Overall, this is a hotel once would probably stay in for 1 day if your budget is tight. Otherwise, please look elsewhere.
