Stayed for five nights; loved it. Perfect location, nice hotel, excellent service. Buffet breakfast is included. There is a good cafe BellaVista just around the corner.

The good: It was reasonable priced since we got a 50% offer for the night, the room was newly renovated and the location was simply unbeatable, especially considering the price.

It's almost directly behind the Scala, and the centre with the cathedral is just a very short footwalk away.

They also offered the usual amenities you'd expect in the price range (mini bar, television, bathroom with "steam sauna" shower...). Wireless internet is free for the first three hours, but only available in the lobby (and maybe some first-floor rooms).

The bad: The room, while newly furnished, was as tacky as it gets. On top of the strange lamp things, there was a 2x2-metre painting of a leopard above the bed, I kid you not. They even had a matching graphic on the door key.

Worse was that they somehow messed up the soundproofing of the windows. They kept almost nothing out, and for us the noises started at around 5 in the mornings: Garbage collection, deliveries to the nearby bars and whatnot. Until checked I was honestly convinced that we had left the window open...

If I go there again, I'll probably check for another place. But if you go, check that you get a room that doesn't go to the street.

When I looked for a hotel for our one-night stay in Milan I wanted something reasonably priced in a good location. That proved somewhat of a difficult task, but this hotel fit that criteria. It is a nice, clean hotel very centrally located in Milan--just a couple blocks from the Duomo, La Scala Opera House, Shopping, etc. No other decent hotels that I found were this close to the main sites and this affordable.

The hotel room was good--very clean, so I couldn't complain. In my opinion it somewhat lacks the quaint "European charm" that would have taken this a step up--perhaps all the pictures of the wildlife? (I hate to even say that because I love wildlife, but perhaps not in this particular setting?)

Staff was nice. They allowed us to keep our luggage until our room was ready (since we arrived in the morning.) They also allowed me to use their laptop to check my email. Breakfast was good. My minor complaint was that the hotel did not have nice city maps available which you usually see in tourist hotels--only photocopies of maps which were somewhat fuzzy.

All around, a decent hotel. There was nothing that jumped out (other than the location) which said "you have to stay here!", but definitely nothing bad about it either. If location is what's important to you and you're on a moderate budget, then I'd definitely consider it.

The Location is perfect and the staff very helpful... then came the cockroach in the bathroom... this was disgusting, with not much sleep nor time spent in the room or bathroom as a result. Due to the cockroach I would not recommend this hotel.

We stayed at 7 different hotels in Italy, and this was the only hotel that I didn't like, it was terrible. The service was terrible, the guy that we had at the front desk was really rude and not helpful at all. The hotel had so many rules that you couldn't keep up with it as they were posted all over the place, it was kind of funny, that it looked ridiculous!! The rooms are really ugly and it was the worst hotel in our entire stay in Italy. It is a 3 star hotel but feels like 1 1/2. The only good think is that the location was good, close to the metro staton, La Scala and the duomo. The bus/train system in Milan is so good that doesn't matter where you stay as you can move really easy around using the metro. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This was our first stop on our Honeymoon in Italy. Although it was a bit of a nightmare to find and had no parking whatsoever, there was no hiding the fact that this hotel was brilliantly located. We arrived late at night but, in order to stretch our legs after the trip, we decided to go out for a stroll and found ourselves at the duomo in no more than 5 minutes! The staff were friendly and the room spacious, clean and equipped with a stylish bathroom. The uniqueness of this hotel was in the decorations and pictures that adorned the corridors and hotel room. A comfortable start to our honeymoon!

This is a typical, small European style hotel probably built in the first part of the 20th century and updated modestly over the years.

Fantastic, safe location, on a small, quiet side street. Walk to the Duomo and other wonderful sites. Hotel staff is very helpful and friendly.

The lobby is pleasant and open, with windows and high ceilings, has sofa seating for a few people, lots of guidebooks, and a small desk for guest use with internet access (no computer provided) at no charge.

Excellent breakfast buffet (included in price of the room) of bread, butter, jam, cheese, ham, yogurt, fruits, muesli, hardboiled eggs, with self-serve espresso and cappucino machine (also excellent).

A small (two or three person) elevator leads to floors with narrow, sloping hallways, six or eight rooms per floor. Probably the rooms vary in size and shape quite a bit.

My room faced other small scale buildings on the back side of the hotel; the sky was visible, but the room was kind of dark, which I didn't mind because I was in there mainly for sleeping.

The hotel is quite narrow, so there are probably only a few rooms with street views, and the street is narrow, so views would not be inspiring anyway.

My room opened to a little entrance hallway about 6ft long, with the bath off to the side, leading to the actual room, both with locked doors. The bathroom was small, with corner, stall shower with curtain (extra drain on the floor), bidet, toilet, small sink, and wall-hung hairdryer (old model, very low power). Hotel soap & shampoo provided (but no conditioner) and complimentary travel toothbrush kit.

Plenty of large cotton towels (flat cotton, waffle or textured sheet type, not terrycloth). The beds were new and very comfortable, with good quality linens. My room, booked as a single, was small but well equipped--two single beds next to each other, wardrobe, desk, mini-bar fridge, cable tv, and a very good built-in air conditioner.

I would definitely stay at the Hotel Star again.

Most hotels are near the train station, which is not a very interesting location. This one has a star location.

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The location is unbeatable, within walking distance or easy public transportation to major sites and areas of interest. Safe for single woman traveler.
What did not meet your expectations?
Some noise was audible at night (baby crying, television from other rooms), so perhaps the walls are not that thick. (I wore earplugs.)
