“Great location, great staff, great hotel”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Two of us recently stayed fir two nights each time at both the beginning and end of our trip to Italy. The hotel is in fabulous location about halfway between the Duomo and the Castle, about a five minute walk for both. Via Dante is steps away and about a 10 minute walk to Cadorna train station which is one of the stops for the airport train. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and breakfast is very good. Nothing beats having breakfast on the terrace in one of the delux terrace rooms. The staff are all fantastically friendly and incredibly helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Delightful and welcoming staff plus great location . Rooms start on the 1st floor and are spacious and comfortable. There is a luggage lift. Decor is refined and elegant, breakfast is fine. Location is the big plus, midway between the Duomo and the Castle with a myriad of shops and restaurants on the doorstep this is a great place to stay.

In the centre of a city, it is unusual to find a hotel with good sized, well equipped, pleasingly decorated, very comfortable rooms which also have a small private garden/terrace. The hotel is located in a very quiet position, in a small street, but is within a few minutes walk of the principal attractions and some good restaurants.

The staff are helpful, knowledgeable and excellent source of maps, reliable restaurant advice etc.

The breakfasts are individually prepared (not buffet) and are simple but of a high standard. Do however note, from the room information book, that yoghurt, eggs and ceriels are "on request" extras while other items are chargeable. We very much enjoyed our breakfasts with the "no charge request" extras.

Finding the hotel is not easy but its location is well known to taxi drivers. It is situated in a small one way street and is identified only by a brass plaque. Entrance is through a small black wooden door into an old courtyard. This does not make a good first impression but once you reach reception on the first floor you realise what a remarkably lovely place it is.

Room Tip: Do try for a terrace room, particularly if you intend to take breakfast or lunch in the room.

Gorgeous hotel, fab location, lovely breakfast, with very uncomfortable hard beds! I was staying with friends and none of us got a decent nights sleep over our 3 night stay. The rooms were so hot and the staff were unable to turn off any of our radiators. It was too hot in the rooms but too cold outside to have the windows open. Coupled with this, other visitors were very noisy and there was little to no sound proofing. Overall, a disappointing experience for an expensive hotel. Decor was great, but who cares when you can't sleep!

Location, ambience, service, privacy, and accommodations all shine.
Walking distance to the Duomo, Fashion District, and numerous restaurants - many without tourists in mind (ask the staff for guidance)- with outstanding cuisine.

Service simultaneously balances subtlety and perfection; one never has to ask twice.
The Loft room we used was chic, minimalist, and beautiful.
The price mirrors its exclusivity. Do not be fooled by the basic hallways.

For fitness buffs, there is an excellent private gym not affiliated with the hotel in the same building. It is small but terrific, with weights, boxing, fitness classes etc.

If an exclusive, sophisticated environment, awakening to morning church bells and the smell of fresh Italian bread as they prepare your breakfast, and warm smiles from staff all sound ideal, then this is the place for you. You get what you pay for.

What a great choice! Our room was spacious, modern, clean, and beautiful. We were near the Castle Sforza and the Duomo. The room was more than we were expecting and the sideboard converted into a kitchenette, if we had needed one. The sofa would have converted to a bed. The front desk staff were always helpful and took care of our restaurant reservations. We were very happy with everything. Note that breakfast was minimal, with coffee, juice, rolls, and cornettos, but was good. Also note that although there is a small elevator, it does not start until after the first flight of stairs. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a superior double and it was very spacious.

This hotel was everything I wanted it to be, small, unique, friendly, interesting, quirky, modern and yet at the same time old. We felt like we were staying in a loft apartment rather than a hotel.
The location was excellent, just off via Dante and in walking distance to all the major sights, shopping and the Metro.
Breakfast was simple yet fresh and delicious.
I loved the fresh flowers in the room and the window boxes. There was also a photo of my children in the room when we arrived.
Just a hint, when you arrive the hotel reception is on the first floor.
Loved staying here so much.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Locanda is an unexpected oasis of peace and quiet in Milan’s frenetic city centre. The elegant 18th century building is in a pedestrian area dedicated to shopping.Once you arrive you can forget your car – you’re in the very heart of Milan, close to La Scala opera house, the Duomo, the Stock Exchange, and the famous designer stores on via Monte Napoleone and via della Spiga. The décor is the creation of architect Vittorio Locatelli, who loves combining refined warm pastel hues with rough, natural materials, following his fancy wherever it takes him. His intention was to furnish the Locanda so that people would feel they were at home. He designed four suggestive rooms, each with a beautiful flower-filled terrace, a rare occurrence in a city like Milan. The atmosphere throughout is pleasant and relaxed, and prompt personalised service is guaranteed. ... more   less
