“Adventure by car”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

This is not the hotel to arrive at in the Milan rush hour, tired and stressed after being stuck at the Mont Blanc tunnel for two hours. The position that makes this hotel great for sightseeng makes it very difficult to find with your car. It is on the tiniest of one way streets and unloading blocks the traffic (the hotel is on the first floor of an old building so you can't just quickly leave your bags). The terrace room was small with a tiny bathroom albeit with a great shower. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Drinking Barbera late into the night on your terrace extremely peaceful. The highlight of the hotel however was breakfast on the terrace listening to the city waking up. Two points stop this hotel being outstanding; one, the noise from the adjoining bedrooms (very poor sound insulation) and two, it is a little overpriced.

Room Tip: Terrace rooms are a must

Spent 3 nights getting kids (3, 5 & 8) adjusted after flight from Australia. Hotel was perfect for us. We had the double suite on the second floor which gave us two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living space with a small kitchenette (we didn't use it) and a sitting area in the smaller bedroom, giving us all plenty of space to accommodate different needs. View was over the street. Everything was clean. Enough furniture without too much. Location is fantastic - 5 minutes to Duomo, to start of Brera district and even less to the castle. Staff were very helpful and provided restaurant recommendations even when a lot of things were closed (last week of August). Simple breakfast which was fine by us. Quiet when french doors closed. Airconditioning worked well on rare occasions we had it on. Wifi was easy, free and great.

Room Tip: We had segreta (larger room) and Arco. Segreta is the first room on the photo gallery. On its own it...

Perfectly located within a few hundred metres of the Galleria and the Duomo, this jewel is hidden in a sleepy backstreet. Room 4 was stunning, stylish, light, cool, airy with its own terrace. Staff were friendly, courteous and efficient. I highly recommend this hotel as an oasis of calm in a busy city. Five stars!

We loved the hotel! The location is perfect (short walk to duomo and castle/park). The room was beautiful. Very clean, spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed stepping out on the small balconies that overlooked the street. I emailed a photo of our family to be displayed. It was framed and was prominently displayed on the desk. Our kids got a kick out of it. Very nice touch. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were happy to recommend restaurants and make reservations for us. The breakfast was delicious. If you choose to stay here, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

Room Tip: We stayed in the loft and loved it

Great spot in the center of Milan. Staff fantastic and helpful.Best position ever-5 min walk from Duomo,La Scala and Castle. We came from the airport by train that stops at Cadorna station(just 10 min walk from hotel),if you have big luggage you may also take taxi (aprox.3 min ride to the hotel). Then you arrive in front of this historic building(we believe 18th century),makes you suddenly feel like a great and unique experience.
The reception is on the first floor, and there is a small lift that you can use for your luggage.
Once you arrive in reception you are welcomed by smiling and friendly staff.
After very smooth and fast check in they provide you with all information about the hotel and if you need it immediately the city map, reccommednations for the restaurants and all great spots you should see in Milan.
Our room was on the second floor-suite room-big,comfortable,sunny and with fresh flowers.
We know that there are also rooms with private terraces which may be a great option during spring or summer.By the way -air conditioning- super!
You may have breakfast in dining room or in your room as there is also 24h room service.
It was a great experience and we would for sure stay there again in the future!!!

Thanks again to fellow trip advisor reviewers, for recommending this small hotel in Central Milano. From a rather understated entrance we ascended to the top of the hotel and our lovely room complete with large outdoor terrace (potted trees, loungers, table & chairs, red geraniums) perfect! Quite unbelievable that you can be so close to everything that's going on, but on closing the French doors complete silence. During our stay here we even had the pleasure of being entertained by street buskers just around the corner. The violin music (Vivaldi, Puccini) would waft up to our terrace - bliss!
Hotel is close to shopping, restaurants, duomo (stunning), train station .... What more could you want. Staff pleasant and helpful; breakfast simple but delicious. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and select the rooftop rooms with private terrace - a home from home!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Locanda is an unexpected oasis of peace and quiet in Milan’s frenetic city centre. The elegant 18th century building is in a pedestrian area dedicated to shopping.Once you arrive you can forget your car – you’re in the very heart of Milan, close to La Scala opera house, the Duomo, the Stock Exchange, and the famous designer stores on via Monte Napoleone and via della Spiga. The décor is the creation of architect Vittorio Locatelli, who loves combining refined warm pastel hues with rough, natural materials, following his fancy wherever it takes him. His intention was to furnish the Locanda so that people would feel they were at home. He designed four suggestive rooms, each with a beautiful flower-filled terrace, a rare occurrence in a city like Milan. The atmosphere throughout is pleasant and relaxed, and prompt personalised service is guaranteed. ... more   less
