Chateau Monfort is a lovely little gem in the heart of Milan.

Built in a historic building and nestled into a residential neighbourhood, the hotel was almost indistinguishable from the area around it. It is at the corner of a busyish intersection, with aboveground trolleys, cars, and motorbikes alike bustling past.

We flew into Milan and were due to arrive in the morning, so I requested an early check-in beforehand which I hoped would be available. Not only was it available, we were told we were being given an upgrade to a larger room when we arrived.

Our room was tastefully and stylishly appointed, with floor-to-ceiling balcony doors letting in the light and the fresh air from the outside. The balcony was very tiny but enough to take a small step outside to look around before returning to the room.

I did a lot of research before booking at Chateau Monfort, and I have to say that the photos I saw online, especially regarding the bathroom, were exactly what I experienced when I arrived. The bathroom was lovely, with both waterfall shower head and bathtub fixtures, and fluffy, flowy shower curtains that made me feel like I was showering in a modern-day castle. And everything was very clean!

All of the staff we encountered at Chateau Monfort were friendly and polite, with greetings and smiles and offers to help with anything we needed. Pablo at the front desk, and Mark helping with the luggage were especially nice, and there was a young lady whose name I didn't catch who offered to run across the street to a local store to get us change for a large Euro bill when we needed smaller change for the taxi! They offered to go above and beyond for us, and we really appreciated that, especially as it was our first time in Milan and we didn't know a lot about how things worked.

We had an afternoon train the day we checked out, and the hotel made it easy for us to put our luggage in the bag room and go to enjoy the city until we had to return for our train, and then called a taxi for us to go to the train station.

One other thing of note is that we were THRILLED to see the TV channels in the room included CNN International in English so that we could try to gauge our location in the world and get settled in in another country. I wish we could have stayed here longer. It was a great location to stay in, with the aboveground trolley/train right outside, and only about a 15-20 minute walk from there to the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

We had a brief and lovely time in Milan, and this was a great hotel to spend that time in.

An excellent experience from start to finish. A wonderful welcome, a beautiful room; the hotel decor is gorgeous, excellent food and wine; a relaxing spa. The service for breakfast and dinner is outstanding as is the food. The hotel is a short walk away from the centre and all of the historic spots and of course the shops 'the well known brands'.

The staff could not be more helpful when it comes to recommendations on places to visit or eat.

No down side apart from Milan that appears to be under construction.

Room Tip: no hesitation just book!

I really appreciate the positive comments regarding the quality of the food and wine, the service, the location, but more than anything else, the one about the staff as it is the best appreciation a General Manager can receive!

The service level at Chateau Monfort is exceptional. The front desk, the bar, the breakfast room - all were welcoming and friendly and very service focused. We had a wonderful stay. Not many hotels get service right these days but you certainly do! Thank you!

The reviews are all true…this hotel is gorgeously decorated. It's like a modern cinderella castle, with really interesting decor and plus comfortable beds and surroundings. Our room had a little juliet terrace overlooking the gardens and the street, which was surprisingly quiet.

I pre-booked for my little poodle, and got a 5 euro "suite doggie" package which meant she had a little bed and bowls in the room. So cute, and nice to know she was welcome!

Dinner in the restaurant was good, but very expensive. The service was fine, but the room was dead silent! They really should turn the music up, because every guest in there felt like they needed to whisper. It was really awkward, like eating in a library.

here is where it gets weird…

We were about ten minutes walking from the Duomo [center city area], which was good…but it bears mentioning that though the location as a whole is convenient, this hotel is located right next door to a soup kitchen/homeless shelter. Every afternoon, there is a huge crowd of disenfranchised locals hanging around right in front of the hotel and surrounding park area, washing their feet AND bare bodies in the fountains [literally], peeing [and more!] in the bushes in plain view of pretty much everyone, and generally just hanging around for several hours waiting for their dinner or a room for the night or whatever the church is actually providing them. I understand that these people need this help, and I am truly glad that they are getting it…but as a young female who did a lot of sightseeing alone, I was not comfortable walking over to the monument right in front of the Chateau Monfort and being greeted by six homeless people bathing in the fountain that surrounded it.

I would probably not stay here again due to that…which is really sad, because it was a lovely hotel.

Centrally located, close to the Duomo, this hotel is a unique experience. The rooms and decor are what set it apart. The restaurant has some amazing food. Will definitely stay again when back in Milan next year.

Better not expect 5stars-lux hotel quality/service. Breakfast not remarkable at all. I know hundreds of establishments with much much beautiful breakfast buffet with quality and variety which cost less than this, so-called, "castle".
I like the concept with a difference, especially girls would love an atmosphere like fairy tales.
However standard guestrooms are boredom. Tiny dark bathroom with no windows made me suffocating. Even if some suites with themes are interesting, the price range is not right, I think.
And one more point to be mentioned --- Sauna(men&women together, means you need your bathing suits)/small swimming pool are not available in the morning! Opens only at 17:00, no sense!
