I visited the castle as part of a Milan city tour, which I recommend if you are visiting Milan for the first time (mine was Solede). We were walking along via Dante, and all of a sudden this imposing castle was in front of us so we walked in.
I really enjoyed my visit to Castello Sforzesco. The courtyard is beautiful and had a bunch of colorful swallow statues inside, which I loved. I love castles and this one didn't disappoint. The park behind the castle, Parco Sempione, is very nice too.

Really worthwhile museums beautifully laid out.
Attractions amongst others the early sculptures, the wonderful tapestries and of course the Michelangelo's unfinished Pieta

Now this is a castle. It has been destroyed and rebuilt and added on to over the years. Even has part of the moat left to see. The Dukes of Milan originally lived here. It was eventually a fortress with 3000 soldiers. Now they host many activities. There is a museum on site but we did not go in

It is a nice example of medieval castle, with nice courtyards. It is free to walk inside the courtyards, the museums are paid. There is a big beautiful park(parco sempione) next the castle.

The free outer areas of the castle are interesting and worth a look round.
The largely unremarkable museums are laid out in a manner that is hard to follow.
