Reviewed 5 August 2014

One of the most beautiful castles, rich in histoty. Loved to walk around the yards. look at the stone walls, the towers. You also have to visit the musems.

“As castles goes this one is quite dramatic”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

You could spend all day in the castle as there are six museums housed in it's walls including Armoury, Art and musical instruments. An enjoyable experience.

“A castle that reads as the history of Milan”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

The castle is great. The story of how the castle evolved and who all were part of its history is fascinating. A must-see is the entire room painted by Leonardo.

“Needs better signage but worth a visit”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 via mobile

There is construction in front of this massive structure so the view to the information kiosk was blocked. We looked and looked for the tourist info and ended up asking a helpful policeman. With all the tourists wandering around and no you are here maps or signs there are plenty of touts offering good luck and hustling tourists so beware. After entering a wrong office also not clearly marked we finally found the place to purchase museum tickets. Half of the collection was closed off and we were not told, nor was the price reduced. It was as if the guards just didn't want to work as much and placed chairs blocking a whole wing. As an artist, I want to see a county's culture and this was disappointing. The views from above of the entire complex were fabulous and worth the long trek up the stairs but I could imagine Da Vinci sailing paper airplanes off the tower as that is believed to be where he did his flying machine experiments. Since the building was used by invading armies there is not a lot of original internal structures other than ceiling and some doorways at the back of the castle but it was still great to walk were Leonardo tread. Also one can see the original moats and structure from above which was interesting. The collection is typical of a municipal one. I question some paintings as to their painters, but the decorative arts were strong although I think the Ducal Palace and museum in Venice has a stronger collection. I would recommend if only for the views and history. Defiantly not for strollers or wheelchairs. Clearly needs better exterior maps and signage.
