When we arrived at the Grand Visconti Palace, the last leg of our Italy trip (Rome, Florence and Milan), we were happy with the hotel, itself, but concerned about its location in relationship to the "center" (duomo) of town. Bernie Gallotta, the hotel's amazing master of guest relations, provided us with precise maps and directions to great dining and shopping experiences, all easily and safely accessible by walking or traveling on the Metro (we regretted using a taxi instead, one morning, when we realized the trip took twice as long). The hotel provides in-room coffee pots to heat water - I would recommend bringing instant coffee, such as VIA (Starbucks), if you wish coffee first thing in the morning. A delicious selection of breakfast foods is available in a large dining room beginning at 7:00 a.m. Coffee is not self-served from urns, but is served by waiting staff according to your coffee preference (therefore, you cannot bring it back to your room -- it is served only after you are seated to eat breakfast). The swimming pool was a very pleasant treat after a day of walking - and the park-like garden a peaceful spot of green. The rooms have great clothes closets and shelves -- room enough to stow travel gear out of the way so the room is not cluttered. The bathrooms are roomy, functional and attractive. Stop by the guest relations desk to meet Bernie, and he will make you feel welcome and even happier you chose this hotel.
