Reviewed 31 July 2013

I would like to thank all the stuff who is working in the Hotel. I consider Bernie Gallotta Concierge & Guest Relations as an asset for the hotel and he has a perfect ability and skills to support the Hotel's customers as he is freindly, supportive and providing full advice for all questions. I want to thank him again. Also, there was two persons have good relations with customers and many thanks for Tamer and Zayed. I like the Hotel rooms, breakfast and the reception freidly stuff. It was good time I hope I can return back.

This was the last stop on our trip around Italy, and were here for the last 2 nights. The hotel came through as a recommendation from our credit card concierge service so was high on expectations.

Firstly, it's not centrally located and in truth, there's not a lot in terms of walking distance around. The hotel is about a 15 - 20min drive from the Central train station and about 45min - 1hr from both of the main airports. Having been used to walking accessibility in the other cities we've stayed at, this was a bit of a let down. A couple of locally run restaurants are in walking distance, we had lunch at one on the recommendation of the concierge and was great quality and value, but aside from that be prepared to taxi or tube it more centrally for everything else. The central shopping and eating areas are all 10-15min so it's no real burden.

The hotel itself is nicely finished, clean and relatively modern. I'd recommend the Concierge service, they are extremely helpful. If not for making recommendations, but to simply helping you get tickets or reservations somewhere. Rooms are a little small, as are the bathrooms, but do have all the amenities on tap which is good. Breakfast is recommended. Still your continental option only, but actually very good quality and the staff are attentive.

My wife used the gym and pool and despite some users saying that they were charged, for us there was no charge. It's a shame that there's not an outside pool, and though there's an outside sun lounger area, we chose not to use it as it didn't seem very private or particularly well setup for catching some R&R and sun. During a very hot and sunny Milan summer, this is the only let down for me with this hotel is if you are looking to get some sun and outside pool time.

As is the theme with a lot of my recent reviews, I can't help but judge hotels on modern requirements, and this again to me was the WiFi access. It's free in the lobby area only, and for 30 min periods at a time. Login details are unique for each period and are stacked in piles at the reception desk. Therefore, you end up taking 2 - 3 at a time, and simply keep re-logging on. Also, if you figure it out, you realise that if you login in the lobby, your access works up to your room (we were on the 1st floor, so not sure about others) and down to the basement where the gym and spa are. If your session times out here, simply go back to the lobby, login again and comeback to your room.

Why the big piece on WiFi, simply as I've said it before, if you make it free in one part of the hotel, why not the rest? On our last night we came in from dinner at Giacomo Bistrot (highly recommend it) at about 11.30pm to an absolutely packed lobby with guests simply trying to get online. No one was drinking at the bar, which by the way is actually quite good for a coffee or drink before you head out for the evening, yet all the seats were used up with guests getting internet access. It made the lobby look more like an internet cafe or a hostel than a 4* hotel.

The only other gripe was the mosquitos in the hotel. Whilst you expect them outside, because the lobby and outside area is always so busy with people coming in and out, especially in the evening using the free WiFi, you end up getting bitten to hell. And the mosquitos here were more like Terodactyls.........

If you are flying in or out, I'd recommend using the hotel car service. Firstly, it's only about 10 - 15 Euros more expensive than a taxi to and from the airports, and secondly you get to sit in the back of a E-Class Merc with a driver who's not content on jumping every red light to scare you to within an inch of your life!! We took one on the way out to catch our flight home, and it was definitely worth it, especially during morning rush hour.

As for a final recommendation, cost and quality wise as a 4*, this hotel is good value. If you go more central, you're paying hell of a lot more. I'd say this place is ideal as a base if you're spending all day sight seeing, on business or shopping and if you're content with getting online first thing or last thing when going out for or coming in for the day.

Room Tip: Chose a lower level room if you haven't got WiFi included and you want to access it from your ro...

Dear MR Kroistian B,

we thank you very much for your very detailed feed back, we are sure travellers will appreciate as we did.

We are glad, overall, you had a pleasant experience during your stay with us. As far as the Intenet connection is concerned we have already passed your opinion to the Management in order to value the best solution for the wifi connection through the whole hotel.

Concerning mosquitoes unfortunately they are a major issue of the whole Milan area and very hard to fight. We have anti-insects disposals placed around the public areas, the lobby is especially “attacked” because of the permanent opening of the doors to let guests in and out, they even get in through the revolving door! The front desk is ready to assist our guests with sprays, disposal to put in the rooms as well as after-bite lotions, we have supplies available for the mosquito emergency please do not hesitate to ask us.

We hope to welcoming you back soon.
Best Regards,

Antonella Mecrani

My family was very happy with our one-night stay at Grand Visconti Palace Milan. The staff is professional and friendly, and the accommodations are beautiful. This is an upscale hotel with a spa and splendid pool. The breakfast was the best we experienced out of 7 hotels in which we stayed on our European tour with an extensive selection of yummy hot and cold food and drink items, including delicious hot eggs, meat, fruit, bread, vegetables, and pastries to name just some of them. The management is clearly focused on the comfort of its guests in every regard. Grand Visconti Palace is an excellent choice for a short or long-term stay in Milan.

The hotel is well maintained, has nice breakfast buffet with many choises (fresh fruit, baked goods, cheese, eggs etc) and good coffee. (We did not have any other meals there)
There is a SPA in the hotel. The usage of this was included in our package (deluxe room; very nice!), so we took a swim every afternoon, and cooled off and got some sun outside and on a sun stretcher. It was not very busy, and the nice garden is a good place to relax in the shade or sun.
The hotel is placed only 4 stops from the Duomo, where you find a lot of nice buildings, shops, restaurants and bars. It took about 1½ horus from the airport with the train and metro; only 1 stopover.

I can for sure recommend this hotel.

We really liked this hotel and found the location, outside the centre no problem. All areas clean and well kept and a delicious and varied breakfast which set us up for a days sighseeing in the city. We also visited Cremona, by train, well worth the journey. Please read alongside my other review, as I missed out that the bar we found was called Bar Italia, beside the roundabout, filled with locals, and regulars! The review reads as though the trattoria Trebla, where we had a lovely meal, offered free food, their food was lovely but not free!!

Stayed here for 3 nights while in Milan, and it was a splendid hotel. Yes, it is not in the centre, but 8 stops from Central Station, and 4 stops from the Duomo, makes everything is easily accessible. Rooms were well appointed and public areas clean and well maintained. The breakfast, which can be taken outside on the terrace, was plentiful and varied. Our tarrif included tickets for the pool and provided a lovely area in which to relax. Not sure I would buy the Milano card again, but would certainly get the 48hour travel pass. Ate in the Trattoria Trebla, and also enjoyed beer and the gratis food on their bar. If you want more buzz at night time, visit the Cadorno area or the Naviglio canal area by tram. If, or more hopefully, when I return to Milan, I would be very happy to return to the Grand Visconti Palace.
