“Bad, awful service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

Me and my friends tried to book 3 rooms in hotel Demidoff, Milan, via one booking page. We had some technical problems. We called the hotel directly and wanted to ask for some help. Plus we wanted to make enquirers about extra services. The staff at the reception was very rude, impolite and unfriendly. We've been told that I quote "since you haven't booked any rooms yet you are not our customers. And since you are not our customers we can not help you with anything. Please stop calling". We booked a hotel nearby, where the staff was very polite, very helpful. Out of curiosity we checked this Awfulidoff hotel and its reception. The lounge of the hotel and reception was very crowded, very loud. The interior was poor, only basic things. Do not go there.

The stay was so bad I am tempted to just leave the headline "Just Don't Stay Here", but I suppose I should qualify why this is so. When I was visited, it was full of Russian tourists with badly behaved kids screaming and shouting. The problem was because of the thin walls you get to listen to this all night and no sleep. While I was having a shower, I found that my hotel room had not been restocked with shampoo or toilet paper. Could not phone reception on the phone, so had to get dressed and go downstairs. The grizzly old man on duty was not particularly helpful, but did find one roll of toilet paper after being aghast ("how dare guests ask for toilet paper"!). The breakfast is pretty rubbish and served on rickety tables in a stretch of corridor. When I checked out, there was a more pleasant younger fellow with curly hair working on reception. The area round about is good enough, but no restaurants at all - only fast-food joints or a place with nasty cheap Italian food. There was not a proper lock that turned on the door, no chance to switch on my laptop because of the different electricity sockets, no air conditioning... Do yourself a favour and just DO NOT stay here!!

Hotel rooms are run down. Tried to put 2 beds in a room that can barely fit one bed. No shower curtain. Didn't want to provide 2nd coffee at breakfast. Don't stay here!

Room Tip: Use different hotel

When I travel to Milan, I always look for affordable accommodation that is clean and relatively close tot he centre of the city. This is my fourth time in Milan and this has to be the worst hotel ever!

Arrived by taxi and thought the hotel looked pleasant enough and acknowledged its distance from city centre but within easy reach of a metro line (1 minute walk!- Lima).

Reception staff very warm and welcoming, no problems, spoke Italian and English. Gave me a room on the 5th floor, however the lift only goes to the 4th floor. I had a single room and thought I was at the top because of this. I was disappointed as I had two heavy cases and had to drag them up the final set of steps. Found the reception staff very helpful for local amenities, gave some good pointers.

The room itself, was clean, basic but a bit dark with minimal natural light. The bathroom was lacking in a shower curtain which left it a wet room by the time I had finished showering.

The weather in Milan was not the best and seemed to rain a lot. Unfortunately the hotel would not allow me to amend my heating in my room. It was central controlled and locked to a temperature and timed to suit the hotel not me. There were times I was too hot (night) and times too cold (morning and afternoon).

There was an empty fridge 'placed' on the floor for use but did not bother and the TV did not have any English channels.

Breakfast was another experience, typical Italian breakfast so that was fine. Pastries, boiled eggs etc but we were only allowed ONE cup of coffee! Any more would be charged!!!! The catering staff did not look too happy at all, they did not seem to enjoy their job at all, totally unapproachable.

All in all, the hotel is basic, not a bad location, right by the Lima metro station for easy access to town. Definitely would not stop there again mind.

Well, 15 minute's walk to Central Station, 25 minute's walk (by Corso Buenos Aires and Corso Venecia) to Duomo, 100 meters to Lima Metro station are looking good. Really GOOD.
Price is very attractive taking in mind internet offers and discounts.
Staff is welcome, speaks English and Spanish.
Room was rather big with small balcony.
... and that's all.
Breakfast was POOR.
Room was NOISY, no insulation from the street (we were lucky to have window to the backyard, but it was noisy nevertheless, what about rooms on the front side?) and from the other rooms.
Very aged furniture and even walls of the room.
Bath was small and tiny, no free space at all. Plastic parts became yellow due to the age. Nickel parts were shaded to brass.
Room was cleaned daily. But. We put used towel to the floor in the morning... and found it on the rail in the evening. )))) We were able to recognize our salsa on it!

So.
You can save money there. Location is OK.
Otherwise try to find something else.

Room Tip: 2nd and 3rd floor are the best. Don't take rooms on the front side, they are very noisy.
