“Blown away by the HUGE family rooms”
Reviewed 5 April 2013

We booked this hotel through an airline website and just expected to have a family quad room with a double bed and two twins. Instead, we opened the door to find an enormous apartment with a huge, luxurious living room, two bedrooms (one with king sized bed, one with two twins), big bath and small kitchen with a formal dining area! We could have happily stayed a week as the central location made it easy to walk to see La Scalla, the Duomo and lovely Galleria. The hot breakfast was good with lots of yummy pastry choices and fresh fruit (oddly, no where else we stayed offered fruit with breakfast). We did find the night to be rather noisy, but this seemed to be a common problem in any Italian city centre during a holiday week so I wouldn't fault the hotel. If you are looking for somewhere reasonably priced in central Milan to house a family, look no further.

Honestly, it was VERY difficult to find a place in Italy that does a decent enough cooked breakfast buffet and plus the usual pastries/cereals/fruit spread and not just a croissant and coffee - all at around £100 a night. I know that for some that is still too much but for us it meant getting up by a certain time (between 7-10.30), eating as much as we like and not wasting the day away looking for a breakfast joint. We just got so much more done this way.
The hotel is typical in the sense that it is a little dated but mostly in a beautiful way - massive high ceilings, old tiled bathroom, lifts for 2-4 people at a time, b'day and staff that look like they are fresh from a 1980's flick. But everything pretty much works (apart from the very slow internet which we didn't mind) and it's a perfect location - round the corner from the Duomo and we had a great night's sleep despite being on the main road which is mostly quiet throughout the night.
Althou we mostly walked everywhere, the public transport is easy, cheap and the taxi's start from about €7 but don't climb too high very quickly and never once did they take us round the houses (I checked with my phone's GPS).
Restaurants I would recommend for Milanese/great food - Trattoria Torre di Pisa in the Brera district - simply wonderful, excellent service and they don't have Brick Lane type dudes trying to coerce you in - they don't need to. Instead they have hand made/sewn tapestries blocking your view into the restaurant so you hardly notice it's there - except all the Italians and anyone that knows good food will be inside have a fabulous time. The other restaurant has to be the Pizzeria Sibilla - in the very same area/round the corner on Via Mercato. The pizza's are cheap and amazing and try the Sardinian Mirto instead of the Limoncello. It's get's very busy in both places so book if you can!

This is a good value hotel for central Milan, within easy walking distance of many sights. The rooms are fine, beds quite comfortable; although the bathrooms are on the small side, the shower has reasonable power. Overall, the service was good and the breakfast had quite a good spread with excellent coffee.

I have rated this hotel as 3 rather than 4 stars for 2 reasons: firstly, despite all the double glazing, the traffic noise can be quite intrusive for the street-facing rooms. Secondly, the wi-fi connection is so slow as to make it practically useless.

Finally, the tiny elevators are quite entertaining with their juddering doors!

Compared to other hotels in Milan, this was relatively cheap, so we opted for a Junior Suite and were anxious to see what quality we got.
Everything lived up to our expectations: The room was large, the bed big (and quite firm) and the breakfast buffet was wonderful & plentiful. The nice waitresses makes the coffee just as you want it, so the espresso mashine is huffing and puffing away all morning.
After a 15 minute stroll along the Porto Romano street with lots of shops, you are at the Duomo; the heart of Milan.

Had a lovely stay at the Romana Residence. Our room was lovely, pleasant atmosphere in the hotel and a good location for us (we walked to the Duomo most days). The breakfast was very good, I looked forward to it every day, especially the cappuccinos!! Our room was a little too hot at night due to the heating system (and we didn't ask the reception about it) but nice and quiet. Very nice little hotel and great value.

The hotel is quite central and walking distance from the metro, a good thing in a city where you do not want to drive.
The room I had was very spacious and quiet, even though on the first floor. The bathroom was comfortable and the offered shampoo, based on Argan oil, a very pleasant surprise.
For anybody interested by the TV, I suppose it could have been bigger.
The breakfast was good for a european (but I like something more substantial).
All in all, for a couple of nights it is fine and the price reasonable.
