Very average hostel. It was pretty good value for the bed but they charge for all extras so make sure you have your own towel etc. The staff seem to do what is expected of them and nothing more..and don't seem particularly happy to do anything. The kitchen is very understocked (no microwave or kettle and very limited utensils) so not great if you plan on cooking. There is also a lack of a comfortable common room which is a shame. Other than that, it is clean and does the job and was fine for my quick stop over.

There's (in Dec '16) a smell in the rooms on the left side of the second floor coming from a drainage problem. I complained and they changed my room twice, trying to make out it was some anom Italy just happening to me, but each room had the same problem. I heard various stories 'ah, it happens sometimes, but just in the morning, then it goes away' 'ah, it's only when the weather's cold' and 'you're the only one complaining about it'. Anyway, by day 3 I was fed up with the stories (which they eventually admitted they knew about all along and can't fix for a while (January). Despite that, when I asked for a refund for the remaining night of my stay so I could move elsewhere, they just said no. No reason given, just apparently don't give money back under any circumstances regardless of whether they're giving you what you're paying for or not. The same stingyness continues in the good-sized kitchen with no kettle, microwave or toaster, despite it being a large hostel. Don't be fooled by all the posters throughout the hostel 'Let's meet new people and exchange cultures' type thing. When things go wrong, it's then that you'll see what this place is really all about. Good points are decent decor, ensuite bathrooms, wifi throughout.

Room tip: Avoid second floor, left hand side (odd number) rooms until mid Jan 2017

I arrived in Milan late in the evening (9pm) to find out there are three Hostel in Milan called New Generation Hostel and I was at the wrong one. The one I first went to was hard to find because it wasn't on a main street it was on a dead end street off a side street which I only found by stopping at a restaurant not far from it. When I got there I found out I was at the wrong one and although they are related and had rooms available they would not honor my reservation and told me I have to go to the other one. So I had to go back to the train and find this one. Again not that easy to find and after over an hour getting here I wasn't in the best of moods when I checked in and once again was told I was in the wrong one. The man that was checking me in did correct himself when I told him of my travel to get there. Room was large and all were bunk beds with huge steps to get to the top bunk which of course where my bed was. Much higher than regular bunk beds and I was not comfortable with that. Bathroom and shower inside the room and large closets to put your luggage which most people didn't use.

Room tip: 20 minute walk from train, room I was in was all bunk beds no single beds staff not that helpful

It was happened in New Generation hostel in Milan at midnight on 24th Aug 2016, a group English speaking guys (almost Australian) were drunk, shouting, abuse, fight to each other, hugely effected other people sleeping, besides, they smoked in the canteen, obviously, it completely against the law. Frankly, their behaviour is awful, disgusting, selfish, unfortunately, they criticize other nations of behaviors always, they think they are the best, those behaviors are the best??? Beg you guys please don't make me feel sick, you are the most disgusting people in the world.

The rooms were nice, but the common room less, theses seats were really not comfortable and kitchen can be better. It has a great location but for me its not really in the spirit of an hostel. Only one girl was at the reception so maybe it would be nice to have more staff or volunteers who can spend more time with guess, the bathroom was great and its a quiet place
