“Only if you must stay in Asti”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

My husband and I embarked on a visit of the southern Piemonte region of Italy and stayed at several charming locations (in smaller hilltop villages) along the way. For something different, we planned a night in Asti. The hotel itself was okay (the room was quite spacious) although we found the furnishings to be a little outdated and not really to our taste at all (a long red carpet runs all the way up the driveway, for example). After checking in, we immediately left again for the evening to explore the nearby GORGEOUS villages of Barbaresco and Neive. We both sincerely wished that we had booked a hotel in either of those places. The neighborhood where the hotel is located doesn't have much going for it at all. Parking was quite expensive. If you must stay in Asti for some reason, this hotel is fine. But if you are considering a night in Asti, you'd do much better to stay in the nearby town of Neive- one of the most beautiful in all of Italy and full of wonderful dining options.

Had a one night stay in a business trip not knowing what to expect. Warm welcome by staff and a real surprise when entering the room that was an apartment with a nice livingroom with a balcony, big bedroom and a nice bathroom.
Breakfast was tasty with good service. Will be re-visiting if I get the chance.

Ps. There is a wonderful Mitchelin restaurant about 15 min away, Ristorante Vittoria.

Room Tip: Front rooms with balcony excellent!

Initially, we had planned to only stay in Asti as passing through on our short trip through Italy. We arrived very late and when entering our room we almost worried that we had been given the wrong room because of the size of the room was massive. It is a very well run hotel, that is close to the centre of town, so reviews that state it is off the beaten track I wonder if they are speaking of the right hotel. There is no parking directly at the hotel, but you can obtain a pass from the reception to the car bar right at the end of the driveway. The staff here are wonderful, particularly Martha who was a delight to be greeted by and very responsive to all the questions we had. She was a great host showing us the sites we should visit on a map and allowing us to extend our stay an extra night with ease... it almost seemed too easy to be true. The only thing we worries about was that on the Friday night there was a party planned just below our window. We were worried it would keep our 2 year old daughter awake, but in the finish the hotel ensured that the music while loud enough, was not too loud and our daughter slept with ease.
We have already decided that we will make a regular trip here probably once a year for the next few years and this hotel will be our local centre. A wonderful place. Thanks to all there.

Room Tip: room 2 is amazing, it has a little balcony to sit on in the sun, but it is right above the Friday ni...

Warm welcome, by an extremely professional staff. Immediately m upgraded to a comfortable and roomy suite.
Coming down to the restaurant, we got introduced to the Piedmontaise culinary experience, thanks to Rolando their sommelier. He spend the whole evening sharing with us, the specialties of if his region, and recommending the wines, paired with all the wonderful and seasonal produce of the area. A+

Hotel Castello is a perfect location for Asti. Within walking distance just outside the city center you will find top service and fantastic, well appointed one of a kind rooms. Ours had a private outside sitting area. I cannot say enough about the staff as they were always available and ready to honor any request. There is a wonderful outside dining area that seems to be a place for local to also come for an after dinner drink as parking is conveniently across the street. While we didn't eat dinner there, if the offerings for breakfast are any indication, it was our loss. I highly recommend the Hotel Castello for anyone looking for an upscale stay with a fantastic dollar value!

We stayed three nights in a deluxe double and were very impressed with the friendly, helpful staff, the stylish décor and very comfortable room. Breakfast was a cut above normal Italian fare with a good choice of fruit juices, yoghurts, breads and croissants; coffee was freshly made to order. The approach to the hotel was very steep but it took only 10 minutes to walk into the centre of Asti. We appreciated the fridge, the complimentary water and a half-bottle of the local Barbera complete with two large wine glasses!

We stumbled across the Castello in a walk around Asti when we were looking to move out of our B&B. They were able to immediately book us in for 5 nights and give us a reduced rate and free parking. The hotel has free wifi and were were impressed with the lack of extra charges. It is not a cheap hotel, but is in an excellent location within walking distance of everything of interest in Asti, which is a beautiful little town with many great restaurants. Breakfast was very good (great coffee). Very friendly and helpful staff. The bar downsairs can be a little noisy at nights, but when we mentioned it to reception we noticed that it was much quieter from then on. Very clean and modern looking rooms with what seems to be a common Italian hotel feature, a kitchen in a wardrobe with no kitchen tools.
