Ate here the first night we were staying at the hotel next door (Agriturismo Il Cucchiaio di Legno) Huge log fire - loads of locals (think that says it all) and a great meal of eight courses for 24 euros!! Could not believe the amount of food and what value for money it represented.

The menu sadly only changes weekly or I think we would have gone back on night two!!! We had cold cuts of Italian meats, great appetisers of various types of bruschetta, a fantastic cereal soup (sounds weird but was very tasty) pasta with pumpkin sauce, the best mushroom risotto I have ever tasted, a veal course, a pork course then we were given a choice of puddings! I had the tasting selection which was three beautiful little cups of different deserts . . need I say we were all extremely full by the end of the meal. We also had two bottles of wine, several beers and soft drinks and the total bill was around 130 euros for four of us. In busy season book a table or you will be disappointed as it does get busy. We were lucky as we were next door and popped in and managed to secure the last table! Glad we did not miss this one. 5* experience of real Italian 'home made' fare.

Would we go again . . an emphatic YES!

We had a fabulous meal here on our last night in Orta. 24 Euros for eight courses of fabulous Italian food. The restaurant was full of locals and was lively and friendly. You need to book and there's no choice apart from pudding but there is so much food that there is something for everyone.

Great value, Great food and Great service! Definitely one of our favourites in Orta.

Stayed at the hotel next door for two nights, and ate at the restaurant both nights. It was that good. The Menu at 24 euros is incredible value. The place is full of locals as well. The staff are passionate about their business, and explain each dish as it is presented. The wine is also good value and their is a selection of local grappa to round off the meal. Booking is essential, you won't regret it.

We were staying at Il Cucchiaio di Legno (it has accommodation as well as a restaurant) and hadn't initially thought to eat here. But boy are we glad we did! What a pleasant surprise.

Dinner consists of a set menu - there is no choice - so that might be a drawback for some. We decided we'd take what we got, and everything we had was very good. For a fixed price of 24 euros we were treated to a feast of something like 8 or 10 dishes (some small, some quite copious). This is stunningly good value and I hope they keep it up.

We chose to sit outside, and joined another couple already installed at one of the tables. It was a pleasantly casual arrangement and we enjoyed not only dinner, but also good company.

We had no idea of what to expect (although there had been a quick review of the meal to come, there was simply so many dishes we'd not been able to remember them all) and as each dish came it was another surprise. Everything was obviously prepared with fresh and local ingredients and was very tasty. From memory there were some small onions, a platter with melon and cured ham and mortadella, then a salmon dish, some ravioli, a porcini risotto (delicious!), a salad, some chicken, and an oven-baked veal dish (melt-in-your-mouth). Finally for dessert there was a choice of panna cotta, crème brulée, semi freddo and more.

We started dinner at 20:00, and didn't finish until almost midnight. It was a lovely evening.

Definitely worth a visit.

We were very intrigued about this farm to table restaurant. There is one set menu for the evening, and essentially everyone in the restaurant is served at the same time. While the food was good, I feel that we missed out on the details of the dishes and what wine would work best, because of the language barrier. The food as a whole was straightforward, wholesome, and a good value. With the rigidity of the set menu, it was surprising that they offered a selection of at least a half dozen choices for dessert.
