“Great Find”

We went to Orta for a wedding, and a friend suggested this hotel. We loved it. It was very affordable, especially compared to some of the other places in Orta. The staff was super helpful. We rented a garage from them for a rental car, they were responsive prior to the trip by e-mail answering all of our questions, and the staff was just as responsive when we were there. The rooms are small, but modern, and our bathroom was larger than the much pricier hotel we booked in Florence. All of the other guests at the hotel were also part of the wedding that we attended, and everyone we talked with enjoyed the hotel and the staff. Breakfast was yummy.

From the outside if it wasn't for the unimposing board picturing the bedrooms you would never guess this is a hotel.
My now husband and I booked the entire hotel for our families to stay in over the duration of our wedding weekend as there are only 10 rooms. Each room Is beautifully modern yet each have a quaint traditional feel with stone faced walls and romantic lighting in the little nooks and crannies of the room.
Breakfast is included and I am yet to find a more delicious croissant on the planet!
Rooms are gorgeous. Boutique hotel so generally quite small but wonderful. The roof terrace has fantastic views over the rooftops towards the lake and the positioning of the hotel is fantastic.
We will definitely return to this little hidden gem.

Room Tip: The suites are well worth it. Bath tub in the room and balconies are adorable.

I still sometimes dream about our accommodation at Locanda di Orta.
Centrally located in the immensely quaint village of Orta San Giulio, the rooms are everything you could wish for: super clean, fluffy bed, atmospheric lighting, great shower and the most amazing Jacuzzi in the bedroom. We had a day of rain while we were in Orta so we just spent it drinking a divine bottle of Barolo in the bathtub. Heaven. We also had a tiny and ultra-cute balcony (just big enough for a little table and two chairs) overlooking the main street, clad in jungle-amounts of wisteria. So pretty!
This place is an absolute delight and I am so glad we chose it. The only thing I would change is perhaps the breakfast times – they don’t start serving till 9, which is a little late if you are planning an active day (but on the other hand this is such a relaxing place, I can see why they do it)
Apart from exploring San Giulio and the Monte Sacro di Orta, we also had another magnificent day exploring the other side of the lake: we started our day by getting the boat to Pella (there are regular services). From there we embarked on a magnificent three hour walk through the sleepy villages of Monte San Giulio, Egro, Grassona, Colma and Ronco; down mule tracks and lush woodland, past tiny cemeteries, ancient-looking stone houses, many shrines, bright meadows awash with buttercups and dandelions and flocks of grazing, curious sheep - with breath-taking views of the lake every step of the way and always surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains.
We ended having to sprint the last 5 minutes to make our boat from Pella to the island, where we enjoyed a fantastic Easter lunch by the lake shore. Splendid.
What a magical lake and this is the perfect accommodation for it.

Boutique style hotel. Small rooms with no wardrobe or drawer in room 5. Needed to keep everything in suitcases, only room for one. Having said that the bathroom/toilet/shower was good and the room clean. Wifi did not function in this room. Was slow in room 2 also. Not good enough these days! Pleasant and welcoming staff. Good for a couple of nights if you want to be close to the lake and old market centre. Arriving by car is problematic because of restricted road access. Needed to park at public car park at top of hill and trundle our bags up and down. So you need to be fit. Not disabled friendly location or hotel. They may have larger rooms but there are steps up to the breakfast restaurant area. TV in room, local Italian programmes so no BBC or CNN. Breakfast late start at 9.00am which would be late for some! Nice walk around the peninsula takes 50 minutes - perhaps before late breakfast! Only ate at one restaurant which was excellent Leon Doro. Boat trip across to island of St Guilio etc and pretty location .

Room Tip: Good nightstop for Lake Orta will be packed in high season making parking difficult.

The location is great and the personnel is very kind.
I went there with my girlfriend and booked a suite.
The room was very clean, simple but very elegant.
Yes, the TV is small, but if you go to Orta you are looking for quality time, good food and a wonderful location. No need for a TV, in my opinion.

Our stay was spoiled by the very tiny room #8 that we were given in a nearly empty hotel and the receptionist who check us out. Rm #8 should only be used for solo travelers, it's simply too small for two people and it's the least atmospheric of all the rooms pictured on their website. It's inconceivable to me that you would give your worst room in the hotel to clients when other rooms are empty. Another TA reviewer shows a picture of the TV compared to the size of shoe! so tiny and with no English language channels. The room had no closet space; rather bins to put belongings in and hook/hangers on the wall. No seating area and the bed was uncomfortably small for two people. Don't book ROOM 8!

The bathroom is smaller then found on cruise ships. The shower head would not remain stationary and kept slipping down the pole. On the positive side they provide nice bathroom amenities and a good hair dryer.

Breakfast was terrible! We had a lovely dinner the night before with good service so our expectations were high for a delightful breakfast but there was nothing but carbohydrates, a jar of nutella and yogurt. We were told that "supplies didn't arrive"...this is at 9am in the morning and breakfast is only offered from 9-10:30.

When we checked out we asked why we were given such a small room in a nearly empty hotel and were told "the small rooms are explained on booking.com" (which they are not!) We also had information in our room that probably because of the poor translation, leads you to believe that "Try our restaurant and received 10% off the fixed menu"...so we tried the menu but when we checked out we were told it's only offered on the 5 course menu, not on the regular menu. The receptionist was unpleasant and not at all sympathetic listening to our complaints; rather she just wanted to argue. We left really annoyed and wondered how they could offer such a nice dinner and good service but then stick their clients with a tiny, unsuitable room with a miserable receptionist!

Yes the location is good, but Orta San Giulio is a small village and you can walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes, so any hotel in Giulio would be well located. I would recommend any other hotel other than Locanda di Orta!

Room extremely small no room for luggage and wardrobe none existing. Breakfast a joke or if you need sugars and carbohydrates you are home. Buffet with no sneeze guards, bread that anyone touch for slicing. Basically not within and sanitary standards. Person at front desk had one standard answer " I do not own the hotel". Was waken up early as the garbage was thrown out.
