We were a larger group so there was no room for us in the main hotel. We were put into rooms throughout the village which wasn’t a big deal since its not that large of a village. The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotels breakfast is quite possibly one of the most amazing breakfasts I’ve ever been served in a hotel, make sure you don’t miss it!

The hotel room we stayed in did not look anything like the room advertised, I think it's luck of the draw what kind of room you are in. Our room was on the 4th floor of a building which overlooked Via Olina.

There is no lift. Our room was functional but basic, with live wires sticking out of the wall in the bathroom, that sort of thing! The view from the room was stunning, overlooking the hill behind the town and with a little balcony overlooking the street. There was also a tiny child's bedroom up a flight of stairs which was still part of the one room, handy for children staying with you.

But please note, especially if you're going to a wedding, that they don't provide irons. I was told that I could iron something in Hotel Catarina (which is a 20 mins walk outside the town) but only after 12noon. When I made it clear to them that this was no use to me, eventually an iron was produced from the restaurant Olina (also owned by the same person), but the staff were not too happy to give it to me. They also hung onto my passport for 2 days, despite telling me I'd have it back straight away, and the staff were not very pleased when I insisted on getting it back. (The passports and guest baggage are kept in an office which is left open onto the street but is very often un-manned).

Also, bring ear plugs. Without these you won't sleep due to the noise from the street below, and a jazz bar which is right underneath the room - this stays open very late, some nights up to 5am.

Other than that, it's a great location and we had a lovely stay there. The owner herself (not like some of the staff she has working with her) is very friendly and professional, and you get a fantastic breakfast in a neighbouring hotel, which is well worth booking into the Piccolo alone for!

This is a really beautiful town. All we needed was a clean, simple room and that's exactly what we got. The room was very clean and the bed was big and comfortable. Very nice!

Not a typical review as I booked a double room and ended up in an apartment - with the best lake view in Orta. Difficult to sum up this hotel: they seem to own half the town including an excellent restaurant with a large and imaginative menu. They manage a three star hotel [the Aracola] and guests share the breakfast room - which is unusual: some quite surreal decorations, high stools at even higher tables - and the most wonderful spread imaginable. Recommended for a laugh is the breakfast room loo, if you don't mind being slightly public.

I can't comment on the hotel rooms as I wasn't in one. I booked a double room for one person, but got the apartment as I booked late. Finding the hotel is difficult: you go to the restaurant and they have an office next door, but both are on the main street. I was then taken on a long walk, pulling my wheelie-bin suitcase- across the main square, up a steep alley, through an ancient wooden door, up a very dark flight of steps, through an iron gate [which I was given a key for] round the back of a restaurant, up more stairs and into a very spacious one bed-room apartment. It was quite sparsely furnished, but had a complete kitchen, a luxury double bathroom, could by my reckoning have slept seven, and the above-mentioned view which was worth everything else. And I paid £50 [or was it 50 euros I can't remember?] per night for all this, including those huge breakfasts. There was a TV and DVD player but no telephone.

Not everybody's taste, and clearly hopeless for anybody infirm or overburdened with luggage, but I loved it, was very comfortable and would happily repeat the experience. By the way, I am a 63 year old female, and must add that Orta feels like a very safe town and I was not at all worried about going back late at night, although the first night I got lost the first time and ended up ringing some strange doorbell! Apologies to whoever it was!

I met a number of other people staying at the Olina, we were all scattered around different parts of the [very small] town, and nobody voiced any complaints. I recommend it!

We booked to stay at the Piccolo Hotel Olina as the Restaurant connected to the hotel had great reviews. We ended up staying in the
"overspill" rooms that the Hotel has in a different building. Perhaps
other rooms are to a different standard but we were very disappointed
by the accommodation. We were in a ground floor room, which was quite
shabby and had patches of mould growing in the bedroom and bathroom. Not only that, but we were constantly kept awake by passing traffic (people and cars) and all of the occupants of the upstairs rooms as there were constantly creaking wooden floorboards and stairs above us. I would urge anyone considering booking to ask where they will be
situated first.

However I can say that the breakfasts, which are served at the Hotel Aracoli, are fabulous.
