This hotel has a number of clear up and downsides. To start with the positives, the location on the main square is second to none. The breakfast is furthermore very extensive for Italian standards and the rooms are spacious, clean and have an OK design.

There are also a number of negatives. Because it is on the main square, it can be rather noisy with a winebar that remains open late just opposite. The breakfast was furthermore crowded with people from other hotels eating there as well.

One issue is perhaps the fact that check in is about 150 meters away in another building. While this is not a problem per se, it means that the hotel is unmanned most of the time. Even the check in office was sometimes unmanned (though open with passports laying around). Finally, the free parking is about 15 minutes away. This is a bit of a nuissance as well.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel, but not for the 150 euros/night we were paying. Then again, most other hotels seemed fully booked.

Fantastic breakfast spread - cakes, charcuterie, cheeses, fresh eggs for omelettes, breads and lots of lovely fresh fruit. This type of breakfast is a rarity in Italy so it stood out during our trip. The hotel itself is comfortable, with a great location and several odd design quirks which may annoy some. We had a big room with a balcony opening on to the main piazza which was nice to sit on during the warm evenings, watching the world go by. Our glass-walled shower was in the bedroom, fine as long as you don't mind seeing your travelling companion naked! There was floor lighting, which looked very cool, but no bedside reading lamps which was very irritating. Noise could be a problem if the windows were open as you hear all the chatter and clatter of the nearby restaurants and the sound of upstairs neighbors walking about. We liked the place but it's not for everyone.

Room tip: Ask for a balcony!

If you want a stay to remember this would be a place, no single detail in a room would be like in a ‘hotel’. We loved #707 on the 4th floor with its weird transparent showers and an in-room fountain. Breakfast is an experience in itself, highly recommended for travelers in this beautiful city of Orta

Room tip: parking is a trouble, talk to the girl running the hotel at the reception in the city before entering

The rooms are big and each room is designed differently.

We wanted to book ahead to choose what seemed to us like the best room, but couldn't reach them either by email or phone (the phone number seemed disconnected, and they didn't respond to email). The mystery continued when we arrived in Orta San Giulio - the booking desk isn't at the hotel itself (which is on the main town square), but a couple of blocks down the main alley north away from the main square, so takes a bit of searching. And there isn't always someone there at the desk either.

They had one room left, but in the end we didn't mind not having a choice of room. Our room was certainly nice, and probably each of the rooms is nice in its own way.

Not the cheapest place to stay, we paid 120 euros including breakfast. They also offered rooms in another building (apparently they own several hotels) which would have been 80 euros for a window-less room - not advisable.

The room itself also had some slightly strange things - the bed was very low so you can't really sit on it and you only got one somewhat uncomfortable designer plastic chair. The shower had what must be the biggest shower head in town with excellent water pressure (great), but what must be the smallest towels! Also the drain was not really able to keep up with the water flow, and since the shower was in the room, you'd probably end up with a flooded room if you use the shower for more than 10 mins.

Breakfast is excellent as such - lots of nice different things: cakes, fruit, cooked breakfast etc, but requires some getting used to it. Everything is self service including doing your own cooked breakfast.

Free wifi, but only works in the breakfast lobby.

The hotel is right on the town square, so some noise from people chatting in the square at night.

This seems like a negative review, but it shouldn't be. The rooms do have a fun designer feeling. The location is great - you're sitting on the balcony overlooking the lake. We really appreciated the free mini bar - a small gesture, but a nice one (free water, soft drinks, snacks).

Overrated, overestimated and overpriced. I was waken up at 5 am by the people in the room just above my head and although they were not especially noisy I could hear the "zip" of the suitcases and the noise of their every steps. Very poor finishes and very cheap design: already decrepit tiles and a bad need of a fresh lick of paint, decrepit room doors whose window let the light of the corridor in all night long. The shower leaked and I still cannot figure out the meaning of the drawer full of pebbles on the room floor. Another example of "design"? Very good breakfast though but very uncomfortable and unbalanced chairs. Globally a bad experience unworthy of 140 € a night.
