This is a great spot to go to, one of the many many of its kind on this street. Pizzas were the order of the day for us, and they were very tasty, fresh and full of flavour. The staff were nice yet probably the most "laissez-faire" that we came across. Still, worth a visit....

each time we can, we "must" go to the Pizzeria-Risorante al Primo Piano. Friendly and warm people, reasonable prices if you consider the place you are and the quality of the food:
you are in the heart of Torino, 5 minutes walk for so many attractives.
Food excellent, some is homemade buy the mother of Gianfranco, like for example fresh pastas....
Don't be shy: ask something, you will learn something.

As the name implies, the real dining room is upstairs, so don't stop at the first impression - the street level space does not look too inviting. On the contrary, the main room upstairs is nicely old--fashioned and lively, and the family who runs the place most welcoming. While they serve also good pizzas and some piedmontese classics, such as good agnolotti, the real strong point of the menu are the southern italian dishes from Apulia, based on ingredients from the owners' farm. Many of them are based on vegetables and pastas, so this is a good place for vegetarians. I have fond memories of their caponata done with sundried veggies, of their orecchiette with broccoli, and of several fish preparations, including spaghetti with bottarga. Good choice of wines, from both Apulia and Piedmont, and good desserts, many of them home-made from fresh ingredients. All in all a very positive experience, in a central location, open for both lunch and dinner.

When we arrived in Turin our hotel recommended a nearby place for lunch. Al Primo Piano was at first sight a simple pizza parlour and as the up stairs dining room, that the name suggests, was full we were offered seats at the street level, a functional space where the pizza oven is located. The restaurant is a family run affair and the owners come from the southern most tip of Italy’s heal, Salento. We were greeted by the son of the family Jean Franco, who spoke to us in capable English and won us over with his enthusiasm for the native cuisine and ingredients of his region. We ordered the Salento menu which as well as being great value was full of seductive southern Italian flavours. As a garnish we were offered dried chillies from the family holding in Selento and shown their own dried oregano which Jean Franco promised us grew like weeds in his home land.

We were so impressed we booked, on the spot, for an evening meal two day later on the promise that JF’s father was going to Turin’s fish market ( the biggest in Italy) that day. Al PP delivered again for our evening meal and the fresh fish was superb, washed down by well recommended Piedmontese wine. We loved the meal so much we booked lunch for three days later, our last day in Turin. All three of us would highly recommend this restaurant for its excellent food and its warm welcome. We hope to return to Turin someday and Al PP will be top of our list for places to get a great meal, lunch or dinner..

Near the heart of the Movida area of Piazza Vittorio, Al Primo Piano is a good place for pizza eaters, but also for soccer fans. This is due to the fact that Juventus and Torino footballers, including Del Piero and others like this place, and you can cross them easily in there.
Pizza is standard neapolitan, don't expect too much.
The location helps to find excellent bars in a mile range, once the pizza is eaten.
