“Defo not 5 star”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 via mobile

I just do not understand how this hotel gained 5 stars. The suite had no ironing board, had to be requested, no kettle, had to be requested. The breakfast menu that was included with the room was the italian, which only included cakes and juice, but that was all mixed in one place with the eggs and cheeses. So we ended up eating the eggs and cheeses and they wanted to charge us 17 euros per person for the TINIEST buffet I have ever seen.

But the staff were nice enough to understand the situation and waiver the breakfast fee. The only thing good about the hotel are the people that work there and the location. Nothing special.

Comfortable hotel but make sure you put your personal belongings (including your make up ladies!) in the safe otherwise they tend to disappear overnight! Otherwise a comfortable hotel and close to city centre.

Gentile ospite,

Cordiali saluti

Dear guest,

we are very sorry to read this kind of delicate review especially because, as you know, we did our best in order to find your make-up. Unfortunately we have no elements to take any responsibility about it.

We really hope that, as you mention at the beginning, you will find it at home.

We are happy to know that all of the rest was good

Best regards

Amazing hotel with beautiful rooms, amenities and service. The staff were great and so helpfull, even when a famous band caused total madness by staying there and with their fans, who totally surrounding the hotel. This added extra security for all of us but everything was handled professionally and smoothly.
Best hotel in Torino and the only place I will stay when in Torino.

The first thing that struck me was how dark this place is. It is a standard business type hotel where everything was functional but it is all so dark and gloomy. The reception area is cave like, with no natural light at all. The combination of heavy marble and dark wood is followed through into the guest bedrooms, which gives the whole place a rather subdued atmosphere. I think a mausoleum would be more uplifting. Fortunately this was only a fleeting visit so it did not really matter.

Gentile ospite,

Cordiali saluti

I stayed for business for a few days and, starting with the good bits, the location is good, the room was clean and the front-desk staff were friendly and helpful.

I'm surprised there are so many really positive reviews as apart from the above it's tough to give praise. The things that are good ought to be good as this a relatively expensive hotel for the city, so it's tough to see how this place actually exceeds anyones expectations. The lobby is dark, distinctly non-palatial. The downstairs bar never seemed to be staffed so you'd be stood there a long time waiting for a drink in the day. There seemed to be no chance of getting a coffee or anything like that. If you realistically wanted one I imagine you'd have to go to the front desk and ask, and I've never seen a hotel on business where that would be necessary.

I ate in the restaurant a couple of times. The food was good but the staff, though friendly, seemed to be students working a shift or two for a bit of cash. Although not busy at all, I was forgotten about on a couple of occasions and had to remind staff I was waiting for food (on my second night my dessert showed up well over an hour after I'd ordered it - ice cream....). The service was just a bit crap for the price paid. Actually, a lot crap for the price paid.

I had no idea about the breakfast 'two charges' thing other people have mentioned. I presume I was charged the full 25 euro for breakfast. Complete rip off, but then how could it not be? Essentially some scrambled egg in a vat, some bacon, a bit of fruit and some stale muesli. Or you can make your own toast. It would be nice if you could get a top up of coffee, but things like that don't seem to happen in the palace.

If I was coming back it wouldn't be to this one. Why would it be?

No gold to be seen in this conveniently located palace. The name has probably to do with the owners being Chinese. The hotel is very tidy, rooms are comfortable, quiet and spacious enough, but the building is a bit complex to navigate and from the outside it looks like tourist warehouse from the comecon-days. Plenty rooms for meetings et cetera. Staff is really friendly though. Windows cannot be opened and in my room the airco was not functioning properly. Breakfast is OK. There is a nice and shaded terrace outside, but do not expect a romantic garden here!

The hotel is very comfortable with large rooms and relaxing bathroom facilities. Very modern and decorated in relaxing tones. The breakfast buffet is generous and the staff is gracious. During breakfast they allow you to use ipads located inside the restaurants to catch up on news or send emails. There is complimentary wifi. The location is near city center and you can walk to via Garibaldi as well as catch the Royal palace grounds. There are two wings- we stayed on the first one and our room was very close to the elevator. The staff was very accommodating and were happy to assist with all our requests.
