“Wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

We spent 2 nights at this wonderful hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly, English speaking owner who presented us with complimentary Bocards which entitled us to free transport in Bolzano including the cable cars and free entry to museums and other tourist attractions. During our stay the owner was always present and available which made a welcome change from the previous hotel we stayed in where it was difficult to find the manager/owner.
We had a large, well appointed room overlooking the swimming pool with wonderful views over the Adige valley to the mountains beyond. We were on half board terms so we ate in the restaurant each evening. The food was superb and very well presented. We sampled the local wines which, although not cheap, are well worth the money. The hotel has a very pleasant terrace to sit on. Meals can be taken on the terrace though we did not try this as both evenings we were there the weather was thundery. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and hope to return someday. With the cable car a few minutes walk away and a 4 minute ride down to Bolzano this hotel is well positioned for travelers who wish to visit Bolzano but prefer staying in the mountains to the heat of the town.

This hotel is a real gem. Situated in a little village at the top of the cable car from Bolzano with fantastic views over Bolzano and across to the surrounding mountains. The nice thing is that you can get into the city easily for a visit but then escape to this little haven of peace on the top of the hill. Our room was a good size and very comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and with views of the mountains. The food here was a treat: wonderful breakfast and dinner was excellent. We were lucky to be there when a local winemaker was visiting to do a wine tasting- it was all in German but it didn't matter, we got the jist of it! The staff were all very attentive and couldn't do enough for you, whether it was bringing a cushion to sit on the outside benches or a blanket when it was getting chilly late on. We are certainly planning on a return visit when we can.

We stayed here as part of a fortnight's walking holiday. The manager was exceptionally nice, with a good sense of humour. Our room was upgraded (very comfortable, with fantastic views and balcony), he had even provided an English adaptor. Free winetasting hour that night (in German, but we could still taste the wines, even if we didn't have a clue what was being said...). Fantastic food at dinner, but also a very very good picnic (dear to our heart, as we are walkers). Hotel gave us a free card that meant that all transport in and close to Bozen/Bolzano was free, as well as the museums. Cable car down to Bozen is very frequent, efficient, and close to the hotel, and only a short riverside walk to the main town, which is well worth a couple of days visit. Lovely spa, steam room, heated infinity outside pool. We plan to return.

Room Tip: Ask for one with view and balcony - well worth it.

we were hoping to stay here, but they had no rooms. We decided to walk over from our hotel and get a bite to eat. By the time we got there is was 2:00 in the afternoon, we were thursty and hungry. We asked if it was possible to get something to eat. He said yes, but perhaps something cold. We said fine, and I think he proceeded to give us some options in German - which is a very limited language for us... we looked puzzled and he said "Beef"? I said, "cooked?" he laughed and said yes, we said fine.
In a little while he brought us the most beautiful grilled rib eye steaks, cooked to perfection with a salad and potatoes. It was the most delicious meal we had our entire 3 week stay.

The restaurant has a nice view of the valley. Even if you can't stay, it is worth going for a meal. If you are staying in Bolzano, it would be a fun evening to take the cable car up, have dinner and then take the cable car down.

Two nights at this mountaintop inn were not enough - the beautiful views, great food and friendly service made the stay seem way far too short. Keep in mind, like elsewhere in this region of Italy, the staff members are all bilingual in German and Italian, and English is spoken as a distant third or fourth language. However, even though my Italian is deplorable and my German non-existent, the staff went out of their way to provide great service.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in November 2009 (not 2010 as indicated) during our two week driving trip of Italy. Having read the other reviews
about the steep road we decided to just enjoy the experience and took the cable-car up to this 'Chalet in the Sky'. The cable car was thrilling - the oldest cablecar in the world - and the views were spectacular as we 'skimmed' the sheer cliff side above Bolzano. The views of the Dolomites were breathtaking in the afternoon sun - a warm pink glow on grey craggy peaks, with touches of snow in the distance - and the green meadows and rows of grapevines clothing the smaller hills with the pretty town of Bolzano in the distance just added to the beauty.
Our room was a Deluxe Panorama - situated with its own balcony on the top floor in the centre of the hotel - with views across rows and rows of beautiful craggy peaks of the Dolomites and green rolling meadows to the right. It was easy to imagine being on sentinal duty as we gazed down to Bolzano lying in the valley far below us. A beautiful
marble bathroom with a huge tub and soft, fluffy bath sheets just added to our enjoyment.
Before dinner we mingled with other guests in the cozy reading room, while enjoying a delicious hot chocolate and the views spread out before us.
It was quite cold so we didn't get to enjoy the swimming pool or jacuzzi but we were able to take short walks around the hotel. As our home is in Queensland, the tropical north of Australia, we felt we were in wonderland with the amazing mountains and chalets all around us and it took me back to descriptions in the book "Heidi" which was one of my favourites when I was growing up!
Dinner was delicious, in the cozy restaurant with the lights twinkling on the hills and in the valley surrounding us, and we kept pinching ourselves that we were in a Tyrolean Hotel on the top of the world in Italy!
After a very relaxing sleep in the very comfortable and warm bed, a delicious breakfast and another walk around the surrounding area, we reluctantly left this 'fairytale' and headed for the reality of the valley below.
A cosy and very comfortable chalet with incredible views of spectacular mountains - a once in a lifetime experience for a fair dinkum Aussie!

If you are looking for a "high end" or "glitzy' hotel, this is not a good choice. However, if you are looking for comfort, cleanliness, spectacular views and mountain air, well-prepared meals, excellent wines and grappas, and peace and quiet, there is no better place on earth to stay for a few days! The staff was very helpful and pleasant in every way. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a much better room. The absence of televisions and phones in the rooms is wonderful! The new pool/hot tub and spa area are lovely, although we only used them once. The real charm of this hotel is that it is a small, family-run establishment with personalized service: a rare thing nowadays.
