Warm and nice welcome, separate table in the front room with oversight to the street in front, fast and very friendly service giving separate informations concerning the meals, took time to be helpful although there were many people dining, food served directly from the kitchen where you can watch the cooking, drinks served directly from the bar on the right side, incredibly tasty food and special dessert variation on demand with natural ingredients, the city hotel merano recommended this restaurant to us, we hope being able to go back there to have other incredible pasta and meat meals

Around Christmas time I found myself in Merano with my family. Merano is a beautiful town in Sudtirol, surrounded by the mountains. The local cousine is very typical of the area and usually pretty good. It was hence quite of a surprise to discover a very different type of cousine.
Trattoria da Santoni offers hearty roman cousin, miles away from the capital. The food is incredibly tasty and cooked with love. The kitchen is on display. The Chef can be watched mastering her skills through the wide window facing the dining room. The service is fast, personal and expert. I will certainly go back there over and over again, being 'Cacio e Pepe' spaghetti and 'straccetti di manzo' on top of my favourite dishes. Thanks again for the wonderful experience in your wonderful restaurant. See you again very soon.

Another couple and we had the pleasure of eating dinner at this restaurant when we recently spent 2 nights in Merano. The ambiance, service and the food all were excellent. We were amazed to watch just two wait staff manage the whole dining room which was full to capacity. They were polite and took their time to be helpful explaining the menu to us. Two of us had an excellent veal dish with the most wonderful roasted potatoes on the side. We all agreed the panna cotta was definitely the best we had ever tasted. As others have mentioned, you can see the kitchen through a large glass window and watch the food being prepared. The chef/owner did visit our table as we completed our meal to make sure everything was to our liking. If you are in Merano definitely eat a meal here - you will not be disappointed.

This may not be the best the restaurant in the world (as another reviewer has claimed). But it’s very very good indeed.

We went on a Sunday evening, when most restaurants in Merano were closed. Inside we found a pleasantly busy atmosphere in a stylish setting.

We began with the starter buffet – a delicious selection of meats, seafood and salads. How much would I expect to pay for this – 15 euro?, 20 euro? The charge was a mere 5 euro per head, a bargain if ever I saw one.

For mains we had sea bass and veal in a cream-and-wine sauce – both excellent. After some tasty Italian deserts, the chef emerged from the kitchen to check that we were happy with all the food she had created. Indeed we were.

Great food, great value, great service. Maybe not the best restaurant in the world, but (based on having eaten in several others during my stay) probably the best in Merano. Go!

We discovered this restaurant when we visited Meran for the first time last summer and we instantly loved it. Then we came back after waiting a whole year for Rosellas "Penne alla Vodka", her delicios fresh"Seafood Salad" and the "Tortino al cioccolato". This year, we returned with our kids and both demanded to go and eat at Santonis every evening.

We enjoy a genuine Italian cuisine with fresh ingredients and no uneccessary fuss. We have traveled a lot and have been eating in many luxurious restaurants, but the one place we always talk about is the Santoni!

Rosella is a great cook and also a very warm hearted and generous person. She shared some of her recipies with me to try at home. The entire family is involved in the restaurant and we love the atmosphere and the personal service. It's also nice that there is a window between the kitchen and the seating area, so you can watch Rosella prepare your meal.

Try it: Great food, wonderful people.
Come on Friday or Saturday if you want to eat very fresh and delicious seafood.
