“A great stay”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

Have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks at the Adria. We could have had better weather but this didn't detract in any way from the overall enjoyment of our holiday. Every aspect of the hotel was great_the staff, the food, the bedroom, the pool, the guided walks....An added bonus were the free bikes and a days car hire. We traveled with Inghams and the rep Ian was efficient and knowledgeable. We would definitely return to the Adria. Merano proved to be a great base for a holiday in this part of Italy.

Stayed at this hotel for 14 nights with me wife in August 2014.
Set in a quiet residential area. the hotel maintains a quiet elegant feel, and is beautifully and tastefully decorated- including a 100 year old lift with sofa!
It is family run and staff are without exception friendly and polite and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Fabulous food in a lovely dining room: fantastic indoor swimming pool and spa facilities: quiet outdoor area: daily newspaper and events- what more could you ask!
Merano itself is a wonderful town, set in an area which combines the best of Italy/Austria - mountain walks through vineyards and orchards- great transport.

Will be back!

Initially greeted by friendly and professional staff to this beautiful and classy hotel.
Lovely room (very clean) and facilities excellent including backpack, umbrella, robe, slippers and towels for pool.
Food of a very high standard and thoroughly looked forward to dinner each night.
Mini bus to start of walks an additional perk.
Could not fault this hotel and would recommend it.

We looked forward to our return visit to the lovely Adria and exploring more of the Alto Adige area. We really loved our holiday here in 2010.we did debate about booking in at The Mignon the sister hotel but decided to go to The Adria.it hadn't changed.it is unique-wonderful old world charm with excellent friendly service.I read with interest the comparison in a recent review!
The restaurant gave us some excellent meals with very good wine choices. The waiting staff were very attentive and helpful.Gunther was a star.
Breakfasts were top class but I would have liked eggs in other forms than the scrambled ones every morning. The scrambled eggs were delicious though.
Our room was light and airy with a small balcony and delightful view to wards the town and the mountains. It was Room 56.
The Adria is excellent in all respects and the spa area is also very well run.
Florian and his family are rightly proud of their special hotel.
We travelled with inghams and must say Ian added greatly to our overall holiday experience. He is unfailingly courteous an so so helpful.Best rep ever!
Have a feeling we will be back.

Room Tip: Upper floor facing the mountains .Room 56. Is good

We have just returned from a glorious week at the Adria. The hotel is set in the quieter part of Merano, just a ten minute walk or so from the river and centre. We received a very friendly welcome and were shown to our room on the second floor. I would describe it as faded grandeur but in a very positive way. The corridors are lined with antiques and there is a quiet elegance and charm throughout the hotel. We were in the older building, a former Italian villa and much of the character has been retained. The room, and indeed the entire hotel, was absolutely spotless. The shower was powerful and there were plenty of places to store your stuff in the bathroom and a magnifying mirror which was easily reached! The room was a good size (no. 39) and came with a balcony which had a small table and chairs plus two recliners which were easily accommodated. The awning kept the sun out of the room. If I were to make any criticism it is the lack of air conditioning in the bedroom. Having said that, it was 34 degrees on several days we were there, yet the room cooled down through the night so it didn't spoil our stay. The ceilings are very high which helps.
The half-board package included a hot and cold buffet breakfast where there was a good selection of fruit, yogurt, cereal, many different breads, Danish pastries, salami, ham and cheese, scrambled egg and sausage or bacon and a do-it-yourself fresh squeezed orange juice machine. Dinner was a six course affair of salads, hot and cold buffet. This was followed by soup and a choice of two main courses which were served at the table, followed by dessert or fruit salad or cheese and biscuits. There was an extensive wine list to suit all budgets and each day they would recommend a wine to have with your dinner. The meals were beautifully prepared and presented and above all, delicious!
The Adria has a spa and an indoor swimming pool which looked very inviting if you're into that sort of thing, but we didn't take advantage of these facilities as we spent our time exploring the numerous walking trails which are easily accessible from the hotel either on foot or using the public transport. We were given a Guest Card which entitled us to free use of the buses and some cable cars during our stay, discount on others; it may have covered some trains too though not sure about that. We booked through Inghams and were fortunate to have the services of their rep, Ian, who told us all we needed to know to find our way around.
Above all, it was the friendliness of all the staff that made our stay so very enjoyable. Lisa, Martina and Katrin on reception all helped with our queries and they offered suggestions of things to do. Gunther! What a star he is with his quiet professionalism in the dining room and his gentle sense of humour as he took care of us during dinner. Christine saw us enter for breakfast and was away to fetch the coffee so it was on the table before we sat down with our breakfast choices. The barman was very obliging, though I never did find out his name! And special mention must be made of the maids that took such care in keeping the rooms spotless and beautifully presented.
If you're after uber modern, executive style rooms that you can find in any city centre then the Adria is perhaps not the place for you. However, if you like family-run hotels with a unique character and charm where the guests are the priority, then the Adria is hard to beat. They even left a birthday present on our breakfast table - a nice touch. Would we return? You bet! Plans are underway!

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the top floor as they would have good views. We were on the second floor and...

For the first time we have returned to the lovely city of Merano for the third time! First two occasions at the Hotel Mignon and this time at the Hotel Adria.
They are both run by the same family - wife Sissi in the Mignon and husband Florian in the Adria. Wow! What a reviewing problem. They both have a hundred year old lady in the family. Mignon has grandma Frau Glatt - who still can be seen arranging the flowers - and painting. The Adria has the delightful 100 year old lift, definitely female, with it's perfect bench seat.
This time we had a Superior room, number 49, with a lovely balcony and good views, excellent in the early morning for the song birds and peace. The room was just right - and much more reasonable price-wise than those of Mignon which had inferior views also.
The staff were brilliant - even 6 star if that were possible. Gunter, Cesare, Pearo and Christine made our stay a great pleasure. We never saw the chef - shy apparently - but he was outstanding. The curious English menu was always far better in reality. If like us you like wine, I preferred Adria's selection and it was a particular pleasure to discuss wines with Gunter. We especially enjoyed Ripasso , and Gant red wine and Sirmian white, as well as their excellent Prosecco from Adami.
So what did we miss at the Mignon? The outdoor pool and garden were better for us than the pleasant indoor pool at Adria. The beautiful Bonsi room at Mignon was our favourite evening spot, though not many people discovered it. And while we enjoyed breakfast outdoors most days in Adria, The Mignon is better in location and quality. Air conditioning in the bedrooms is not available in the Adria but we didn't find this a problem - we slept with the doors wide open. Finally, if you are a dessert fan then Mignon is better.
Were we to return - which we intend to sometime - which would we choose? ............
All in all ............ The Adria shaves it!

Room Tip: Choose a 3rd floor room.

Thank you very much for this superb Review. Your comparison with the World Cup made us laugh a lot :-)
You are right: the Park Hotel Mignon and the Hotel Adria are like sisters- both have their own charm, style and the talent to captivate and enchant each guest.
They have one Thing in coomon: most important thing is, that everyone should feel like home!

Thank you for letting us now that you enjoyed you stay - hope to see you soon! (not at least to discuss wines with Günther ;-)

With best regards from Merano

Beautiful sedate family run hotel in a quiet leafy suburb just minutes from a bus stop or a short walk to the upper part of the river offering a delightful stroll into town ( about 20 minutes) Set in a small garden it boasts a luxurious spa ( with " training" sessions if required!) with 3 steam rooms and sauna and a pleasant indoor swimming pool which opens into a lawn area with hot tub.(thick towels, robes and slippers provided in your room) Plentiful massages and treatments available at a cost. Although the building is old it has been beautifully updated with light airy rooms and modern ensuite bathrooms and a fully functional 100 year old lift with cushioned seat which is a real showpiece. The staff are delightful and although few speak good English the language barriers are easily overcome as everyone is happy to help with good humour. The food is fantastic with a 6 course menu offered for the evening meal with a huge range of hors d'oevres ,salads, and 4 pasta or rice dishes each day ( of which you sample as many as you wish) before the table service for soup, main course( 2 options) and choice of the days desert, various ice creams or fresh fruit plus local cheeses to finish. Breakfast is equally impressive including a range of 5 fresh fruit juices plus DIY carrot and orange presses and different breads, cheeses, hams, fresh fruit and pastries. A newsletter appears on each table each morning detailing activities run or at the hotel such as walks or special spa sessions and local events and weather etc. Board games and books available in the lounge.Push- and electric bikes for hire. Small gym.Two communal terraces as well as sizeable balconies in most rooms. Quiet bar

Room Tip: All rooms in the old building have private balconies ...not necessarily so in the newer block. Some...
