“Charming B&B in beautiful Merano”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We recently spent two nights in Merano at this lovely B&B. It is located right around the corner from the center of town so that it is a quiet retreat yet within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. We booked the Mitzi Martha room which was delightful. The room and bathroom were large and the beds comfortable. The weather was nice so we were able to take advantage of the private patio outside of the room. We really enjoyed relaxing out there with a glass of wine and watching the sun go down behind the mountains.
Martin greeted us warmly when we arrived and was very helpful in showing us to our rooms (and carrying our luggage up the stairs!). He was a wonderful host and had good suggestions for some great restaurants (Trattoria da Santoni, Seibstock Keller, and Saxifraga Kurhouse)and things to do in Merano. We loved the way the house had been restored. It was obvious the family had put much thought and time into the project making sure to preserve the integrity of the home.
We loved the town of Merano and hope to return some day. When we do we will definitely stay at Ottmanngut again!

First, i am french canadien so my english will sound a little off. I have been to many Bed and Breafast around the world. I am a wine lover and a foodie. If you are looking for a modern South Tyrol-Northen Italy-Alps, this is it. They have recently renovated the Ottmanngut in a very stylish and modern way by putting the focus on the beautiful antiques this place owns. This B&B is a very warm family always owned business and very customer oriented. Everything you need is there and if it is not, you ask and you will receive it along with a warm smile. Every room has it's own personnality and honeslty they are all great. The garden is absolutely magnificient and i am actually jealous of it. You can sit there and order a nice glass of naturally fabulous wine and really feel in Italy while looking at the huge mountains as ou are also in the alps. I higly recommend this place who anyone looking for a high end not average B&B experience. This is a very unique and special place and everything is made with care and love of the trade.

Room Tip: No, they are all great.

We have only been able to spend a weekend in Meran, but the stay at Ottmanngut was beyond our expectations. A personal and warm care of Martin and his grandmother. The house has been renovated with love and care in every little detail. The rooms are inviting and relaxing, the location superb in walking distance to the city and still quiet and relaxing right by the vineyard. The service is very personal and you feel like family. Terrace and garden are beautiful and inviting for breakfast, coffee, reading a book, or apperitiv before dinner.
This is a place to come back again!

Room Tip: we had "Mitzi Martha", a lovely room with private terrace. beautiful!. Also had "Da...

We have spent a fabulous weekend at Ottmanngut. I cannot recommend it enough. Martin and his mother were so incredibly hospitable and welcoming. The family have renovated the house with so much love and attention to detail, it feels comfortable and luxurious without feeling you should be on your best behaviour!!!
The house itself is a short walk to the Therme and the town centre - we stayed with our daughter and we all loved it.

Room Tip: Mitzi Martha has a terrace that overlooks the orchard and the vineyard. All rooms are special though...

I had the luck to be able to stay two nights in this great place. My room (the Wasmannzimmer) was very spacious and stylishly decorated with some antique family furniture and had a fine bathroom. A good mix between authenticity and modern. My view was on the terrace with palm trees. Very nice when you are visiting for a ski trip!
Even though it is very close to the center, it is very peaceful and quiet. The breakfast was delightful (most of the things served are organic) and Martin is a very friendly and helpful host. All in all is it an amazing place to stay. And Martin promised that next time he will have mastered baking bread himself. :-)

The next generation of the family Kirchlechner has poured their hearts and souls into restoring their beloved, historic family home, the Pension Ottmanngut, and the result is an intimate, unique, boutique "suite and breakfast" hotel in the heart of Merano. We have been staying in this hotel since the late 1970s, appreciating its charm and hospitality. While the prices have gone up, so has the value, comfort, and elegance, with 9 charming suites, some with patios that open directly into the gardens and vineyards. Once it had small modest rooms and shared bathrooms 'down the hall' -- now it has artistic rooms with antique furnishings, fine bed linens one hates to leave in the morning, complete with elegant, squeaky clean in-suite bathrooms, and breakfast foods carefully selected from local farms, and served with style, indoors or out. Now a splurge, but heartily recommended!

Room Tip: Hard to choose -- each room is distinctive and elegant. Clearly the proprietors have a great design...
