This is an amazing property set in a valley surrounded by mountains...Because of the nature of the valley it is subtropical so you have palm trees blooming with snow capped mountains nearby.
The hotel offers a full meal plan which makes sense since the food is excellent (as is the wine list) and even if you drive around a bit to tour you will only miss a lunch or two (We did spend a day in Trento but happily returned for the cake and coffee buffet which starts mid afternoon) The property has three outdoor swimming pools and one indoor pool with very comfortable lounge chairs set around the pools and up into the trees for the shade lovers. Our room, a deluxe king, had a fabulously large double sink bathroom and a double terrace...really a terrace off the living room area and another smaller one off the bedroom. Very ample closet space and nicely furnished.
Only complaint>>>we arrived midafternoon....it was obvious that our room was not ready since they first offered us a refreshment out on one of the terraces and then they disappeared for about an hour....it was after 4 p.m. when someone from the desk gave us a "guided tour"....at this point we really wanted to go to our room and this finally happened before five. It would have been more direct and honest to just tell us that our room was not ready but at least it was lovely when we got there.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a terrace since we spent at least a couple of hours there every late afternoon an...

I am a hotel freak and have visited a lot of very good hotels but "Irma" tops them all. Here the details count: a welcome drink accompanied by refreshing towels and a fragrant rose...Finding out that in our suite of type H there was a second bathroom hidden in the wardrobe...Discovering a strawberry field in a wonderful park, where the guests were invited to pick the ripe fruits.
The exquisite breakfast is served on the top floor in a kind of glass orchard with jasmine shrubs and a breath-taking view. The choice of food is excellent, all these local jams and preserves, fresh full grain rolls and delicious bread, a lot of fresh fruit, prosecco, tasty pastries...
Salads and soup for lunch and then cakes served at 16:00. Before I was sure that we are going to skip the lunch and 4 o'clock cakes, no way, we always bravely returned to the hotel at 12:30 :-)
I enjoyed swimming in the pools inside and outside. Very relaxing.
Great food served for dinner, perfect measure, the courses small but delicious, great choice of wines. Thank you chef! And then a glass of grappa in the bar's garden before going to bed. This is exactly what I needed. I arrived exhausted from work and stress and left feeling like reborn goddess! We haven't rented the bikes nor participated in all the various interesting activities provided by the hotel. Next time. I fell in love with Mrs Meister already during the first evening, an elegant, smiling, very attractive lady who was hovering over the guests like a benevolent spirit. I loved "Irma" so much that I accepted the garage charge on the bill, even though we came by train. Doesn't matter. I will return, with my girlfriends, or alone. Thank you Irma team, you are doing a wonderful job. I do appreciate your hard work and wish you all the best.

Before leaving, I was actually a bit sceptical and tried to keep my expectations low when I read all the positive comments on the hotel but .......... it is so true ; Meister's Irma is a little paradise, hidden in the small streets of Merano. And it is paradise thanks to the Family Meister and their staff : you get a VIP treatment from the moment you set foot in the reception area. It was our first time at Irma but we never felt like tourists or strangers.
Dinner is so good with a wide variety of choices every night (never the same) but it can't beat the fabulous breakfast buffet served on the top floor with magnificent view on the mountains. And let's not forget the cake in the afternoon and a little sorbet by the pool! Everyday a little, kind refreshment offered by ever so kind staff.
We enjoyed a spacious room in the Villa Amore and also thank the team for keeping our room so neat and cosy. Also the pool areas are nice and clean. You can pick a pool according to your mood of the day : relax in the bubbles or take a swim in the in- or outdoor pools.
From the hotel it is just a short walk to the city centre of Merano - nice shopping possible - or a short drive to one of the many mountains for walking or biking.
Meister's Irma is perfect when you like a relaxing, yet diverse stay in South Tirol ! We'll go back !

Room Tip: Room facing the Swan Lake

Hotel Irma is an unassuming set of buildings in the quiet outskirts of bustling Meran/Merano in the Sudtirol, Italy. The facade does not inspire and, in fact, our friends, coming with us for their first visit, were initially sceptical. The scepticism dissolves as soon as you enter the reception area, greeted by hot towels, prosecco, fruit and cake. The staff waft you through the registration process while you absorb the super-comfortable sofas and armchairs, the views of the immaculate gardens and the surrounding mountains. Worries start to disappear...

Twice we have used suites in the Villa Amore which is a short step from the main building. These rooms are very well appointed, with great bathrooms, private balconies on all sides and extremely comfortable beds.

The upside to this building is the peace and quiet, the privacy and the spacious rooms.

The downside is the poorly lit path back after dinner and a drink or two, especially when it is pouring, as it did last time.

The 'Badewelt' comprises endless loungers, indoors and out, myriad pools to laze in and extensive steam rooms, saunas, treatments, showers and so on. You do not have to step foot outside of the grounds if you don't want. For sure, you won't go hungry as food is one of the team's top priorities and from breakfast, through lunch, tea and dinner the quality is fantastic and the amounts are mind-boggling. Lucky you can use the gym or do laps in the outdoor pool.

We love this place and although it seems expensive at first glance, it is worth it.

The owners and staff are delightful and when it gets busy - Sunday breakfast - there is sometimes a sense of humour required, but never to the detriment of the experience.

Room Tip: We have only used the Villa Amore which is fine if you don't mind being away from the main build...

Merano is a hidden gem, and Meister's Hotel Irma is probably the best hotel we ever stayed in (and we have been everywhere !). Children are most welcome, there is a wide choice of rooms, the breakfast buffet with a marvellous view on the mountains is gorgeous, the service very friendly and efficient, and the gourmet dinner deserves a Michelin star. The overall atmosphere in the hotel is refined and relaxing. The swimming pools are big. We go there now every year.

We have been going to Hotel Irma for years and it is certainly THE highlight of our annual travels. Arriving at Hotel Irma, you notice immediately that you have just arrived in what feels like heaven. Never have we been to a hotel that not only meets, but exceeds our every expectation, everytime! It is a family run hotel that makes you feel very much at home and really takes care of your every need and desire. It is really one of the only places where rest and relaxation are TOP priority and the hotel guests feel that in every aspect and corner of the hotel, from the warm welcome, to the wonderful spa and pools, the food, the bar, the entertainment and special events and programs offered. This is the place to come to unwind from the everyday and experience the luxury of heartfelt hospitality. EVERYTHING about Hotel Irma is wonderful: the hosts, the guests, the food, the atmosphere, the style... it is simply the best, in every detail!

The first time I went to Meister's Hotel Irma it was August 2003...I did't know that after this experience I will become so much "addicted" that I needed to book the next summer vacation before every Easter! Now, after 10 years I understand why every summer I meet the same customers from Germany, Switzerland or Italy captured by the same spell. Start your day at 7.00, open your door's room and find your shoes perfecly shining. Put your fluffy bathrobe and go to the indoor pool, drink your first coffee or tea looking the fireplace and the candles and then you can swim in the silence broken only by the crackling of the fire. You can also go to the gym or have a walk in the gardens among the roses or the ducks. Then push the 5th floor button and have a gourmet breakfast with a flute of Prosecco, salmon, prosciutto ham, fresh exotic fruits or an omelette with all the extras ingredients you might desire looking at an incredible panorama. After your "brunch" you can choose one of the excursions led by Alex (one of the owners) using the Irma's Bus: the best ones are Cortina and St. Moritz, Venice, Arena di Verona for Opera, Wine tasting, Castles or Shopping at Bolzano or Milano. If you are not a professional cyclist you can rent the e-bike ("e" for electrical) and have a tour with the GPS. If you want to walk and burn the calories of the incredible meals of the chef you can try the "nordic walking" or hicking to the farmers or winers estates and taste again genuine and organic food and drinks. Back again at the Irma, unwind in the sauna chalet with mountain view, swim in the fresh or in the salted pool, float in the salted hydromassage then wear your bathrobe and enjoy your lunch. Don't forget to leave a small space for the strudel and the other cakes that are waiting for you at 3.00 pm with a cappuccino or a glass of applejuice. Now it's time to relax laying on one of the 240 chaiselongues (for 85 lucky guests!) around the pools and the gardens or one of the warm water lazybones in the indoor pool balcony. You can have a massage or a beauty treatment at the spa or be surprised when one of the waiters at the pools ask to clean your sunglasses, give you a chilly wet towel to refresh your face or massage your hands with perfumed oil. At 5.00pm, another "angel" sent from the maitre patissier, offers you fresh sorbetto walking by the sunbeds. The Hydromassage engines at the pools starts at 8.00 a.m. until 7.00 p.m so when everything stops and the pools are silent and empty because mothers have to prepare childrens for dinner, you can enjoy a wonderful slow shower with herbs foam, multi jet waters and chromotherapy.
Dinner is served from 7.00 until 10.30 so there is no reason to hurry. You have a table inside with your name tag , fresh orchids and a candle waiting for you and, if you wish, you can have dinner outside by the swan lake. If the elegant dress of your wife is sleevless and she feel a little bit cold, they bring her a warm blanket in the same color of the tablecloth. You have a personal waiter so he or she knows what you prefer and the next day it will be ready before you ask! Claudia, except of one of the owners, is an expert sommelier so ask her which wine is the perfect combination for your dishes. Once a week there is the dessert festival but every night, except of the four courses, you can taste 100 cheeses with fruit mustard or truffle honey and a long buffet of hors d'oevres . After dinner, when the stars have made their appearance on the lake, it's time for a live concert at the bar. The boss there is Martin:he knows exactly which type of cognac or grappa suits you and for the ladies he can serve the unique "Sissi" dessert wine with amaretti. After a walk in the illuminated gardens you find your bed ready made and the duvet opened, 8 cushions, the abatjours lit up, a white towel on the floor for your feet and new towels in the bath. Now you can sleep as a baby prince or..... like a king.

Room Tip: If you want to experience adventure and real nature ask for the for the tree house: a luxury chalet...
