I stayed at this hotel in early August 2013 for 2 nights. I took the train to Merano from Milan which was not too difficult. The hotel is right in town on the river. I did not realize that the reservation for "half board" included both breakfast and dinner. The breakfasts were typical, but the dinners were excellent - 4 or 5 courses with numerous choices and a health menu also. These were the highlight of the stay. The food was very well done, creative presentations and lots of choices. I also enjoyed the easy access to the public pools, which were crowded but not too crazy. I also had a massage at the hotel spa which was nice but nothing special. Almost all of the other travelers at the hotel seemed to speak German. Rooms were clean and had very strong air conditioning which was great in the heat wave. They included still and sparkling bottled water and local apples.

We stayed late May, early June and the Hotel was excellent. very modern, bar area is large, well appointed, and comfortable. Breakfast is fabulous, most any or everything you want. Did not try the restaurant, but hear it is also very good. Rooms are very upscale, large, bed is good, shower is terrific, bathroom is also very big. Our room looked out over the front courtyard, across the river into town center, which is only 2 minutes walk. Since we were in Northern Italy, I was looking for a restaurant that serves Weiner Schnitzel, I found it on the main shopping street in town, was very good. Merano is situated in a valley, with the Dolomites as a backdrop, the most photogenic setting I have encountered. If you are a guest of the hotel, you have a passage way that connects to the thermal baths, but stay in the private baths for hotel guests, the public ones are very crowded and full of screaming children. Hotel Terme Merano is a class act and a great place to spend a few nights if in Merano.

Room Tip: Only saw our room, but would have to say, all should be fine.

With new owner and new management the hotel was a great positive surprise. Especially the staff is more friendly and professional. The rates and the services are more competitive. They do everything to make you happy. The bar with the terrasse is now bigger with a new winter garden. This part of the hotel can be rated as five star with moderate prices (Aperol Sprizz Euro 4.--). Parking in the garage is free and also the spa is included. The rooms are very clean and in good shape. Breakfast is rich and the food in the restaurant is of good quality. The hotel has now a better concept than before with the Steigenberger group. You will feel the influence of the young but experienced, Director Rudi Theiner. Overall, we can recommend this hotel for a stylish stay, good services and fair prices.

We have been in this hotel the second time this April and we surely go back next year.Merano is very romantic city in spring.Hotel Therme is great for people who like design hotels with spa. There is a big advantage, that it has his own passer to the Meran city terme, hotel guests hav free access from 9 a.m. to 10p.m., they have prepared bath robes and slippers on their rooms to they can go there without any changing the clothes. The stuff on the reception is very helpful, I reccomend to go for a dinner to the hotel restaurant, they have delicious dishes for good price. Breakfasts are great! In summer you can take the bikes with you to do the trips around or go just hiking to the mountains, in winter it takes around one hour to get to the modern downhill skiing areal from the Meran.

Room Tip: Standard rooms have windows to the garden, upper cathegories have city and river view.

The terms next door can be reached by a tunnel from the hotel. The rooms are OK and very clean but at time of dinner make sure you arrive early because the buffet has limited choice. The quality is acceptable but the quantity is far from our expectations. The Internet connection in the lobby is fast for a bit of work. Quality-Price ratio is acceptable.

I was looking for a magic Christmas Time with my family when I have decided to book this hotel. It seemed perfect for that. Wonderful location - in front of the river and in front of the pretty Merano's Christmas Market, a nice and warm Therme to entertain the kids (5 and 8 years old) after a cold day outside (and if the Therme was closed, we would still have their own warm swimming pool), and a package which included: the arrival of the Santa Claus (sooo important for us), a special dinner on 25th and "activity for kids in a special room" like they said by phone. What happened was: on THAT night, it missed the magic... the Santa should have been a friend or some relative of somebody because it was so clear he was fake and unprepared for that roll that my 5 years old girl whispered disappointed: "Mum, this is not the real one. This must be just his helper". The "special room" for kids was an ordinary place with some decoration in the walls with some toys on the floor and no one to take care or to entertain them. No activities for the little ones. Yes, I have to say that they offered us a very good singer in the hall, a big Christmas tree and an elegant atmosphere - for adults eyes only. Or I arrived there with too much expectations or next time I´ll look for a smaller hotel, who offers maybe a coziest Christmas atmosphere, with some activities for kids like make Christmas cookies, learn a song, play traditional games and other ones sawn on Internet by that time.
About the hotel:
Location - the best if you want to stay in the center and enjoy the Therme and the Christmas Market.
Internet - I saw a previous review saying about the difficult to reach the wi-fi Internet in the room and a "déjà vu" came to my mind... Believe me, it works well, but you have to spend a little time to understand how it works and what switch you can turn off and which ones you can´t. It seemed - at least for us - that some of them turn off also the electric current. (Same difficult when you want to charge some electronic devices overnight).
Food - amazing good! Elegant and really gourmet, with very nice options also for kids. Wonderful attention.
Room - very big, beautiful and functional. The kids loved the bathrobe and the slippers on their size. Cons: the door of the bathroom - which can´t be locked, and the shower without a shower plate. (Tip: if you don´t sleep without a bed sheet like me, just ask one to the reception).
Spa area - very nice. I didn´t try the spa services, but the sauna and the warm swimming pool was enough for us. And remember this is just a complement of the big Therme you have at your disposal.
Reception - they are very professional and that´s it. Don´t expect too much smiles or a warm welcome. Instead, they will do everything they can to attend you well.
Parking - they offer a convenient private parking.
Conclusion - Will I come back there? Yes (and for sure I would choose again the half board). But not to spend the Christmas night with kids.

We stayed here a total of 4 nights and there's no doubt that the location can't be beat if you're planning a stay in Merano. The hotel is situated along the river and adjacent to the public pools and gardens of Merano, which themselves are a beautiful. A one-minute stroll over the bridge and the entire shopping district of Merano presents itself. We stayed there in early October, so most of the tourist crush had passed but the weather was still perfect.

We booked a suite and we a bit surprised that the price was actually per person and not per night. I realize that this is not unheard of, but I mention it so that prospective guests are taken aback upon check in. The suite was really far more space than we needed and I'd opt for a double room on the highest floor next time. Breakfast is included and was very nicely done, with warm and cold buffets, eggs made to order and lots of great breads, meats, cheeses and sweets. And, the bedding was simple, crisp and impeccably clean and fresh.

So what's not to love? Well, maybe it's a bit nitpicky, but we were never able to get the wifi to work in our room, which forced us to go down to the lobby and it wasn't much better there. It was incredibly frustrating as, even though we were on vacation, we both had work to stay on top of. The result was that we ended up incurring ridiculous roaming charges on our iPhones to get our e-mail and data. This is modern relatively new-ish hotel, so I can't understand how this can be.

Also, the quality of the fixtures in both our suites [we broke up our stay in two visits with a 1 day break in between] were really flimsy...toilet paper holders virtually falling out of the wall. The white rug in the second suite was really dirty, the furnishings in the public areas showing signs of wear... The front desk staff seemed at a loss when we asked for a recommendation for a decent seafood restaurant and could only refer to the same book we had in our room.

Perhaps most disappointing were the spa services, which were really mediocre. We each tried massages and I booked a facial, but we were rather underwhelmed. There was no pre-treatment consultation, no checking in during the treatment to see if everything was okay. And when it was over, the massage therapist just walked out of the treatment room without a word. It was weird.

All that said: Would we stay here again? Actually, yes. The location, its convenience and the access to the Merano pools and gardens trumped the other issues that we encountered. We'll probably return again this time next year. And maybe the wifi will be worked out by then!

Room Tip: The suites are corner rooms with a great terrace and fabulous views, but more space that we needed...
