The hostess, Livia, is very friendly and goes out of her way to meet your needs.
Livia runs her bed-and-breakfast in a very personal manner and does not use on-line
booking agencies, but she gives her email and her telephone on her home page,
which is www.cabiancatrento.it. Consequently, one on-line booking agency stated that
there was no availability and another claimed this B&B does not exist. Fortunately, I
did not believe them and sent her an email anyway, and received a prompt response.
The house itself is an old stone building that stays cool even when it is sweltering hot
outside. It has a spacious, very pleasant garden. The breakfast included several
home-made jams from fruit trees in her yard, as well as the customary breads, rolls,
cheese and meats.
The location is in Povo, on the east side of the city center, and several kilometers up
the mountain. Povo is called a "fraction" of Trento and is really a suburb of private
residences for the most part. In the neighborhood I met many people walking their dogs,
riding bikes, and running. From the windows facing west, and from the yard, one
can see views of dramatic Dolomiti mountains, the southern part of the Alps.
The trip to the city center is 10 minutes by automobile, or one can walk on fairly level
streets about 1 kilometer to the main square of Povo and take a bus that is about 15 minutes
to the train station. A few parts of the university are another few hundred meters from
the Povo square. I was attending a conference at FBK and walked back and forth.
