Firstly I'd like to say that the Club Med experience itself is great if you have kids, particularly on a skiing holiday. You can ship your kids off at 9 in the morning and not see them again to 9 o'clock at night if you wish (not that we did!).

I will, however, deal with the pros and cons of this resort.

Pros

Great food, there is a massive selection (which can get a bit overwhelming at times) and it is all beautifully prepared. You can eat yourself silly at all times of day (breakfast, lunch, pastries at 5, snacks at 7, then dinner). If like me the buffet experience gets a bit too much then for at least one night take a walk down the hill to the Hermitage and their 1 star Michelin restaurant for a treat (it is only a 10 minute walk), amazing food and an incredible Italian wine list.

Spacious accomodation (but see below). If you have adjoining rooms they are very large with enough space to be on your own away from the kids

Good equipment. We hired from the resort and both the skis and the snowboards were very good, better than I have had from Skiset in Val d'isere the previous year.

Cons

The location is a bus drive into town every morning and there are only two ways up the mountain. A chairlift from the centre or the gondola from the side of the hill. The problem with the gondola is that you have to negotiate up a set of stairs and then down another with your sets of skis and boots which is a real pain.

The bathrooms. These were a real letdown and I think there must be some serious drainage problems in the Christalano suites as the first room we had positively stank of sewage. We tried everything to get rid of it but it would not go and we had to move rooms. Even in the second room one of the bathrooms smelt bad. I think the resort has some serious work to do on their drainage over the Summer.

The comments about the showers are true as well, they are tiny and have a big step down to the floor, real risk of tripping and having a nasty fall.

Overall I am impressed with the Club Med experience but I would not choose this location again.

Room Tip: Stay away from the stinkiness of Christilano 1

We have just got back from Cervinia and I would like to thank Club Med for a really great holiday. The staff are absolutely gorgeous and really could not do enough to make our time with them as perfect as possible. The food, according to my family and friends who eat meat/fish, was always perfect and for me, the vegetarian, it was a pure delight with plenty of variety - and there always far too much to choose from.
If you were in lessons your instructor will take you to, one of many, a mountain restaurant 5 course lunch - all on Club Med - and if not in a lesson just collect your voucher and you can do the same! For those of us that had lessons the instructors were very good indeed!
The rooms were warm & comfortable with snowy mountain views and were very quiet. Not elegant or elaborate but much better than the average ski hotel!
The staff will greet you with cocktails and sweet treats as you come off the slopes and then you can fall into the huge bar for a couple of hours of apres....perfect!
One complaint....WIFI - having to pay for 15 mins at a time is painful.
Two complaint....If hiring skis etc go into town, much cheaper!
BUT - First and foremost a huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Club Med.

Room Tip: We were in 3314, 3316, 3318 - all these overlooked the mountains, as I suspect they all do as we wer...

Overall this was an excellent holiday with family and friends. This was our third time skiing with Club Med.

First the good:

Excellent food and dining (the deserts were not as good as serre chevalier last year) ; skiing conditions were good as were the pistes for mixed ability; four inclusive restaurants up the mountain (mixed quality but the three we tried were welcoming, good table service and I've paid fortunes for much worse up the mountain); the rooms were warm and a good size; minibus to town and slopes never waited more than five minutes; kids (5&6) loved the ski school and supper club; staff were friendly and helpful.

The bad:

The Cristallino 1 bathrooms were small, old and poorly set out (the shower was 18" off the floor making for a risk descent, the sink was behind the door so it wouldn't open and a valve for the radiator meant you couldn't sit straight on the toilet!); the higher than normal altitude affected a few of us; the main bar really needs new furniture and carpets; the building is disjointed and you cannot get to the restaurant by lift without going outside! (We had a baby in a pushchair); there was little to do for grandparent and baby not skiing during the day.

The selfish:

Not satisfied with annexing the Crimea, Russians have invaded this resort. Be warned they don't understand waiting their turn or why you then ask them to do so (at least some staff would tell them to go back and wait). Club Med access this market at peril of alienating their traditional clients...

We were blessed with fantastic ski conditions - a week of snow before we arrived meant the pistes were excellent and we had the pleasure of skiing on them under sunny blue skies for 5 days. On the 6th day the wind got up and it was a different experience, but I have to say this counts as one of my best ski holidays. The Club Med concept with ski guide/instructors to suit your level works well and my lovely instructor, Stevie, ensured our group had fun exploring both the Cervinia and Zermatt sides of the mountain on virtually empty slopes, as well as improving our technique. My partner was also happy skiing off with his much faster group. Our room (in Cristallo) wasn't huge, but bigger than many we have experienced on chalet holidays, and had a proper bath. The food is plentiful - with lots of choice in the evening and very good quality ingredients. If anything, there is too much food, particularly at lunch time. We learned to order just a pasta starter and a salad rather than the 3 courses on offer! There is more food to greet you on return from skiing, and the bar is always open. So there is little reason to leave the hotel in the evening, which is just as well as it is a 10 minute walk to the town and there is nothing much in town anyway. Yes, the entertainment is pretty cheesy, but its easy to avoid. Overall the Club Med ski concept works well, and when the sun shines, Cervinia is an intermediate paradise.

Room Tip: Cristallo rooms are nearer the central area, but smaller than those in Cristallino. Cristallo rooms...

Just returned from half term week at this lovely resort. As ever the welcome was warm and the food very good. The all inclusive was good value including a large range of cocktails aperitifs and spirits. A bonus this year was our instructor Luciano who was very jolly and had a love of good food. This lead to a succession of long excellent lunches in mountain restaurants. He was also very keen that we see as much of the natural beauty of the area, taking us on new routes and covering quite a lot of Zermatt as well Cervinia. Pistes were wide and not busy. The only negative was that the bathrooms could have been a bit cleaner but they were definitely not a horror story. Would definitely recommend it.

Italian hospitality at its best, affordable skiing, even when the South African Rand was trading at an all time low. Après ski drinks included Gluhwein and hot chocolate and snacks were served the entire day.
Ski school was graded according to level of expertise and everyone in our group found a group that suited their abilities.even the very beginners had a very social beginner ski group,Class 1 with an elderly very charming ski instructor Mattheo. The food was an absolute culinary experience although the restaurants decor was a bit poor and revamping seriously needs to be considered, especially the cow print chairs. The resort is very well run and even on days when we didn't go skiing we could take a shuttle into the town, or swim in the pool. A bathing cap is required, although we did see people swim with their shower caps!! The spa is a bit expensive, and we didn't enjoy the Turkish bath, no jacuzzi is available. Entertainment in the evenings seems to be aimed at families and although we weren't with children we still enjoyed it. Next time we will go to an adult club med for skiing. Overall a wonderful affordable experience and we were sorry to leave.
Room tip: our room smelt badly of smoke and was situated far from the main area 2210 so I would suggest asking for a closer room.

we went to Cervinia just last week. we had a quick 1 and a 1/2 hour plane journey to Turin and then a 2 hour bus journey to the resort. when we got there we got the usual club med welcome drink etc. and were shown to our rooms by the very helpfull G.Os. we found the room layout of this hotel rather strange as the rooms were all on ground level. we were in Cristillino 2 which was a long walk walk to the main hotel. the walk really isn't as bad as some people say. Luckily the rooms are very big compared to other club med rooms. we have been to the following Club Med resorts: les deux alpes (twice), avoriaz, tingnes and then cervinia. the rooms in cervinia were double the size of the rooms at les deux alpes and avoriaz and were a little bigger than the rooms at Tignes. we had the normal standard rooms but still had a big balcony.
the food here was very good but there was not much selection of deserts. for lunch everyone except the teen ages eat out on the slopes. the food on the slopes was not that good and was not much selection. the location of the hotel i not very good as it is out of the town. to got to the slopes you have to take a bus.

overall we enjoyed our stay at cervinia and are going back next year again

Room Tip: this is tip for ski hire. I recommend to not hire skis from club med as they are much more expensive...
