“Great B&B, Great View, Great Food!”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

My wife and I had never heard of the small town of Courmayeur when we started planning a trip to Italy several months ago. And Chalet Plan Gorret was nowhere on our “Radar Screen”. But the lure of Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc) and adding the mountain to our itinerary changed that forever. The mountain is spectacular in many ways, the town is picturesque, and the Chalet allows you to enjoy them both. The Chalet is located in the small hamlet of Plan Gorret (about ½ mile up a hillside from the center of town; i.e. very convenient). It faces Monte Bianco and from our room we could enjoy the view any time of the day. Paola (the owner (since 2012) and host) is very friendly and strives to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Her assistant, Rose (an exemplary employee that anyone would want on their team), checked us in, helped us with our luggage, and made sure that everything was in order. We were very pleased. The Chalet is very clean and our room had a firm comfortable bed, ensuite toilette and shower, plenty of room for clothes to be unpacked, a TV, a small refrigerator, windows that faced the mountain, and a small balcony. This was exactly what we had hoped for and was exactly what had been shown on the Chalet’s website (there were no surprises). Also, there is a restaurant associated with the Chalet that provides very good meals at reasonable prices. Maurizio (Paola’s brother) is the chef and he does know his craft. We ate at the restaurant both nights of our stay (the first night was because it was convenient and we did not want to drive back down to town; but, the second night was because the food was excellent and the menu very varied with daily specials). Well worth it and not having to drive to and from another restaurant in town late into the evening was a definite plus. Nicole (Paola’s husband) ensured that the restaurant ran smoothly and also served as the “go-to “person to have any dinner specials described (his English was a lot better than our Italian). By having all family members involved in pleasing guests and making their stays enjoyable we have no doubt that this will be a successful B&B and Restaurant for many years to come. We offer our thanks to Paola, Rose, Marizio, and Nicole for making our visit to Monte Blanco and the Courmayeur area a complete joy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of Monte Bianco!

We booked a triple room at the end of August, having consulted with friends who have owned a home for many years in Courmayeur.
The hotel is quite small, maybe 6-8 rooms in total. It is located outside of Courmayeur, about a 15-minute walk from the town centre or a 5-minute ride in the car.
Very peaceful atmosphere. A beautiful garden outdoors where one can sit in the sun, read, and enjoy a fantastic view of the mountains.
Very spacious and clean room and good maid service.
The hotel has a restaurant/pizzeria which is a big plus if one doesn't want to go out in the evening. The menu is, however, very limited.
What made our stay most delightful was the hotel waiter, who served us at breakfast, at dinner and for cocktails. He was very precise and attentive to small details but not intrusive.
We would love to go back.

We spent a comfortable 3 nights here for a ski weekend but were a little disappointed that our 'triple' room turned out to be a double with a small extra bed. This is partly due to the booking site we used, it is worth noting that if you need more space for 3 adults, you should make sure you book one of the superior rooms.
Having said this, we really liked the chalet and its wonderful elevated position with fantastic views of the mountain. The room (103) was in the eaves but was clean, warm and had a coffee machine and lcd tv. It could have done with some more light and a few hooks would have been helpful for jackets etc. The shower in the bathroom was hot but not very powerful.
We ate twice in the restaurant and the food was excellent - a good range of dishes including pizzas, polenta, fondues and good meat dishes. Breakfast was simple but good with delicious salami.
The staff were courteous and efficient - the small bar offers some interesting local beers and very good cocktails.
The 'ski room' is just a tiny store room with a couple of racks and nowhere to keep boots warm so bear this in mind if it is important to you.
We really liked this place in preference to all the large, impersonal hotels you find in ski resorts and found it good value for money - but we would book a superior room next time.

Room Tip: Superior rooms have more space for family groups - rooms on the front have amazing views
