“at the exhibition of Venetkens”

Palazzo della Ragione
Ranked #8 of 419 things to do in Padua
Certificate of Excellence

This building represents the heart of the town because of the little food shops that are downstairs, but it has also an enormous open space upstairs (where people were judged in the past). In this space a very interesting exhibition has been organized, Venetkens, about ancient inhabitants of region Veneto. I could see the way of life of these populations, observing a lot of objects coming from different towns and villages near Padova

Beautifull palace built on XIII century. The top floor is occupied by the largest room roof of the world (around 2200 square meters) called "Salone" (Saeon in dialet).
Under the Fair, along two parallel tunnels, are placed numerous features and grocery shops with delicious food and, in the adjacent squares (Piazza delle Erbe e Pazza dei Frutti) there arecstalls of fruits, vegetables and clothes

This huge building with a bow shaped roof is decorated with wonderful frescoes and painting. These were used to direct people to which judge they would see in the days of low literacy. There was also a "seat of shame" where debtors would go. Because the people of the area had a connection with Troy, there is a huge Trojan Horse-like sculpture at one end. There is also a Focault's pendulum in the hall. From the palace, you also get a good view of Padua's busy market below.

This is a beautiful old building that I have yet to go inside, it is what is outside that I love, the market, the stalls, the people watching. Fabulous and just what you imagine Italy to be. And not the tourist Italy, the real deal where people buy their meets/cheeses/flowers/veggies etc. Love, Love, Love it!

The upper level has 333 frescoes and admission is included on the Padua card. The lower level is where Paduans buy meat and cheese, and looked like an incredible place to buy both. It flanks the two outdoor markets which are very large and lively, also worth a visit.
