The chapel is absolutely beautiful... not much more to say than that!

Be aware that you have to book your ticket for timed entry at least 24 hours in advance, which you can do online.

This Chapel could go unnoticed if you judge by its exterior. As soon as you walk inside, I guarantee you, it will take your breath away! Giotto's frescos are magnificent! Recommend buying tickets in advance.

We bought tickets online in advance which is an easy way to ensure entrance. You need to exchange the receipt for actual tickets from the entrance beforehand. We were able to do so the day prior. We were told to arrive at this same ticket area 5 minutes before the entrance time on ticket. But don't be late or you miss out. We went into the dehumidifying room for about 15 minutes and watched an interesting DVD on the chapel and Giotto and the frescoes. We then had 15 minutes in the small chapel. You do not need to have art history to appreciate this but it may give a more fulfilling experience if you do a little google research on Giotto beforehand. The frescoes are beautiful and covering the whole chapel; walls and ceiling. His use of colour was innovative at the time but apart from that, I just love the present day effect of his colour - especially the sky blue. Afterwards you have entrance to the museum adjacent to the ticket area. We did and found some interesting works including Giotto's beautiful gold cross.

A must-see if near Padua, just a short side trip from Venice. The beautiful frescos painted in the first years of the 14th century have been described as "considered by many to be the first piece of modern art." Viewing the colors and use of light in the frescos, it is hard to imagine that they were created over 700 years ago. Visitors have only 15 minutes in the chapel after a stop in the waiting room, so in advance use a guidebook, YouTube or other resource to understand the fascinating history behind Giotto's work and to prepare for the 38 panels/scenes covering the ceilings and walls, along with the marvelous Last Judgment. Officially, reservations are required. While there may be open slots during the day if you show up without a reservation, the experience is so unique and impressive that we wouldn't suggest leaving it to chance.

The frescos, painted by Giotto shortly after 1300, are some of the most beautiful and artistically important in the world.
