Visited Padova/Padua beginning of December. Flew into Venice Treviso airport. Got local bus from just across the road into Padova city centre. Need to buy a ticket at kiosk in airport for €4.30 . We stayed at crowne plaza which is out of town but runs a free shuttle bus to and from Padova railway station which is next to the bus station. Short walk into centre and there are lots of beautiful historical buildings. At this time of year the city is lit up with Christmas trees and little markets in the many squares. There are lots of bars and chafes but just beware there are very few restaurants that open through the day. Open lunch til 2 or 3 then closed til 6 or 7 . we got a train to Venice on the Sunday and had a lovely day. Found it was a good way of seeing Venice without the expense of staying/ dining there.
