When looking for a hotel in Padua, we needed it to be close to the train station, as we traveled a lot to other cities in Veneto region. NH Mantegna Hotel is really convenient in that sense - it is situated within easy walking distances (10-15 min) both to the station and the historic centre, especially to Scrovegni Chapel and Eremitani. However, the surroundings (business district around Padova Fiera) lack the charms typical for old Italian towns.
The hotel offers full list of services for business travellers and tourists alike. However, as in almost all Italian hotels, WiFi connection was very weak, and login and password had to be renewed every 24 hours.
Our room was very nice, though a bit small, with quality sound-proofing, modern furniture and bathroom fittings. Buffet breakfast was rich, and the restaurant on the 12th has fantastic views of the city centre.

Room Tip: Superior rooms and suites have great views of the historic centre - so, if you can afford it, ask fo...

The hotel is not bad except that it did not provide us with AC on a hot day. AC control in the room is only a dummy to fool the guests. According to the front desk staff the temperature in the room is computer controlled by the front desk. Even after numerous complaints, the staff could not make AC work for us.

Besides, calling the front desk is useless because it would only right for about 3 or 4 times then it would give you a busy signal; and nobody ever answers the phone because they only had one person at the desk to handle all the AC complaints.

Room Tip: Persistent complaints will result in a room change to a different floor with AC.

Excellent location to walk into centre of Padua and good for parking. However there are a number of things which would need to be improved to make me want to return. Upon check-in we were given a room which stunk of cigarettes even though it was a non smoking room. We were given another room down the corridor. The mini bar wasn't cold at all and all drinks inside we're warm. Room could do with a bit of a dust but otherwise was standard; what you pay for. No fresh coffee, which is strange in Italy. Instead was weak coffee from a machine. Had problems booking tickets for a cathedral tour and staff were rather reluctant to help out, even booking them for us over the phone would have helped!
The man behind the bar was great, very friendly and helpful!
I suppose you get what you pay for with this one but a few easy improvements would go far.

Staff were great but...
No room temperature control: it's all controlled centrally and the thermostat in your room does nothing. Coming off a long drive I wanted to cool off. Impossible. It was about 22/23 which is OK but not what I wanted.
The TV's are tiny: maybe 14 or 17".
My minibar didn't work-it was warm.
The free Internet they provide reminded me of 1995. It was pointless and frustrating.
And the room, whilst clean, had that smoked-in feel: the smell and that dirty feeling.
If you don't care, the hotel is OK. If you want to relax, do some work and chill away from frustrations I don't recommend this place.
I checked out despite having prepaid and went to the Galileo. It was the same price.

This is a very clean and nice business hotel. It is easy to reach (about 10 min easy walk from main station). Easy to go to Venice and Vienca by car or train. Breakfast rather small and average - do not expect any typical brunch type american breakfast. Coffee, rather below average. What we missed most was a warm welcome. The hotel staff is certainly very friendly, but we missed the 'extra mile'. For example we were travelling with two kids over the easter break, but there was no surprise Easter bunny or so, what you would expect in a major hotel like the NH! Further, not any other Easter decoration or what so ever. While we where staying in NH Mantegna, the clock was changed to summertime and we asked if they the hotel will arrange for a little longer breakfast time, but was not possible either.

Final advice, if you are hungry, better order Pizza a cross the street - there is a delivery service. The hotel restaurant does not provide Pizza and the bar has only frozen pizza.

Room Tip: Rooms: If you are traveling with a family, go for the junior suite. It has a nice view over the city...

Very clean and comfortable - at a very reasonable price.
Breakfast is included - and is an excellent and extensive buffet, not the usual coffee & croissant. Great view from the restaurant as well.
Desk cleaks all spoke English and were all very pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: Go to an upper floor for a quieter room

Hi,
We stayed in NH Mantegna for 2 days in August 2012 as part of a Cultural Tour planned by ETS. If it was up to us, we would never go to such hotel that was so far from the Venice centre. However when we arrived in the hotel, we were impressed by the rooms, decoration and the comfort they were offering. Not to mention the wireless internet service.

The restaurant is on the 12th floor, naturally the view is great.
Alternatively, there is a small pizza place just across the street, when the restaurant was closed, it is a good option.

The hotel is at a 10-15 mins walking distance from the train station. It only takes 30 mins to get to Venice by train. It is also possible and easy to go to Milano (2,5 hours) or Verona (1 hr, 15 mins) as well.

Apart from the hotel, there was a beautiful restaurant serving such delicious food called "AGLI EREMITANI" 15 mins away from the hotel.
