“Great views from the upper floors”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

A business hotel that is functional and well located next to the University. Wi-fi is good at certain times of the day but in the evenings very poor (obviously dependant on the number of users) there is however the facility to upgrade at a cost - so that might be faster. Biggest issue I would have with this property is the air conditioning, there is ac but it is controlled from reception and is only activated (for short periods) on contacting the front desk, even though there are controls in the bedrooms. Breakfast is good, a wide selection of cold and hot food. Dinner was good, magnificent views from the restaurant. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, bathrooms have a good selection of toiletries. All in all a nice hotel but the lack of controllable ac during a heat wave made it uncomfortable.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have the best views and allow you to open windows without street noise

High quality service, with pleasant friendly stuff. Maybe some improvements in food variety could be made, as well as some improvements in its quantity. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at your hotel.

The hotel is about 10 minutes from the main station and about 15 minutes from the Cappella degli Scrovegni (Giotto). All services and food are excellent. At breakfast you enjoy a wonderful view over the town and to the Colli Euganei.

Many thanks to previous Tripadvisor reviewers who helped us choose this hotel, particularly the crucial comments about the comfortable beds. We can't remember when we last slept so well.

A special and unexpected delight was breakfast (excellent, we thought) every morning on the 12th floor restaurant with its spectacular panoramic views over the old city and beyond. We enjoyed two dinners there, watching the sun set, and were grateful for the advice of our knowledgeable and very personable waiters who made several excellent suggestions about places to visit.

It's true that the hotel is surrounded by some pretty unattractive commercial buildings to the side and rear and, to the front, by the modern part of the university complex. However, the longer we stayed and got to know Padua (a week in total), the more we loved the location:

Behind the university buildings and just 2 minutes walk from the hotel is the tree-lined river which flows past the old city walls. There's a nice café at the bridge where you can sit in the sun by the river bank, and a super-cheap night-time bar just opposite. We relaxed there often before heading through the impressive 'portello' into the old city, or we would walk along the river path towards the west end of town where there are some lovely restaurants. The train and bus stations were, for us, a comfortable 10 minute walk away and we never felt unsafe at any time, day or evening, wherever we walked.

Much has been said about distances from the hotel into town. The city's main attractions are pretty spread out and how long it takes depends on where you're staying and where you're going. We found most places between 10-15-20 minutes walk from each other and, fact is, if you were to stay in the old city, maybe around the beautiful Piazza Santo, or the lovely Prato de Valle, you'd have a pretty long walk to the train station or to the west of town. For us, NH Mantegna was a perfect base for getting around the immediate area, just as Padua itself was a wonderful base for seeing the many delights of the Veneto region.

A word about travelling by car - the hotel is fiendishly difficult to find without a SatNav, as is just about everywhere else we travelled in the region. We did discover, however, that if you follow the small road signs for 'fiera' (with four little crossed flags), you'll end up at the big conference centre next to the hotel. Hiring a car would help you to get easily to places like Ravenna (2hr 15 mins) and some of the delightful little villages like Este, Montangnana, Monselice, Arquà Petrarca, or maybe even fabulous Lake Garda. However, the train is all you need to get to places like Mantua, Ferrara, and Bologna. And, of course, Venice - just 20-25 minutes by train.

Recently spent 5 nights in hotel. 1 suite and 2 superior rooms. 4 persons in all.
Check in superb - arrived at 11.30 am expecting to be told rooms would not ready but to our surprise we told by the chap on reception to give him a moment to see if they could speed things up for us. I had requested that we get the three rooms on the same floor if possible. To cut a long story short with the minimum of fuss we got our rooms within ten minutes of arrival in the hotel. The importance of a warm welcome and pleasant efficient receptionist was brought home to me in every sense. It means to me I am getting to my room totally stress free from the hotel point of view. Our suite did not disappoint we got everything it said on the packet - spacious comfortable very good bathroom with wet room style shower. Toiletries were sufficient.. Suite and Bathroom very clean.
We had one Dinner in the roof top restaurant where we dined of the al a carte menu I had beef it was excellent as was the service. We had a very pleasant evening having a nice meal wine and drinks bill came to a very reasonable E 160.00 plus tip for 4 of us. Breakfast every morning around 8 am. was as you would expect in Italy very good in the fruit, bread, cereal, cheese, Juices (none fresh as far as I could see) etc.. Cooked food as in bacon and scrambled eggs not quite in the game as far as our tastes were concerned. That aside we enjoyed our breakfast every morning. Staff always pleasant and courteous bearing in mind where there is a number of staff there is always one if not two not morning people.
We ate a light meal in the bar one evening and were not disappointed.
Free WIfI worked perfectly for us - we are not big users when on holiday.
Walk to town allow maximum 30 minutes. Taxi on average 10 - 15 euro depending on time and day.
Two small points: Firstly as we tend to arrive back in our room around 8.30 pm it would have been nice for us to have some English speaking tv channels in sitting room. We had a multiple choice in our bed room. I did request retuning of tv. Was promised it would be done the fact it was not is why I mention it. Secondly the fact that the air conditioning was controlled be reception I suppose for very practical reasons was mite confusing as we were only sure on two occasions it was actually cooling our room when the outside temp was in the 30s. I am sure somewhere out there there may be a better system of controlling cost of air-conditioning Overall staff especially reception superb - check in one of the best I have experienced in a busy hotel. On balance hotel is in my opinion in the mid to high end of 4*.
We would not hesitate to return to this hotel if we return to Padua which was a very interesting city which oozed charm for us, Some great restaurants and memorable meals.

Not too much to say either way really. Rooms were comfortable and the food was good. Very friendly staff and I think the only negative was that some of the people in our party paid extra for the premium wifi only to find it no better than the free version. Personally I found the premium wifi to be more than acceptable so I guess it may depend on which room you are in. If it's important to you, it may be worth checking in advance.

Room service is not 24 hour and after a certain time at night there is a limited menu up until 11.00pm

All in all - perfectly acceptable.

We are leaving today after 4 nights here.
Words cannot describe how awful and frustrating it has been to use the internet here. The hotel offers two grades of WIFI: Free and "Premium". I have used both.
The free is terribly slow and limits how much activity (upload/download) you can have within a 24 hour period. Occasionally it will log you out and you then have to try to log back on, or perhaps return to the front desk for a new voucher.
The "Premium" WIFI costs 9.9 Euro per 24 hours (approx $13.60 at todays exchange rate). The big surprise is that the premium is no faster or more reliable that the free. Amazing. Such a disappointment.
Other than the miserable WIFI this hotel is fine. All aspects are good.
Located a 5 minute bike ride (ask at the front desk. 10 Euro/day), or 20 minute walk from the historic center.

Room Tip: We had room 1024
