“Nice Small Hotel”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

We were looking for somewhere to stay in Italy that we could get to both Venice and Verona in about half an hour by train. I had never heard of Padova or Padua before, and was not sure if it would be a good place to stop. Well we could not have picked a better place.
I had found Albergo Verdi on Tripadvisor (as I do all my accommodation), the reviews told me what to expect and I wasn't disappointed.
When we first arrived the Reception is quite small, the staff seemed nice but not overly friendly, they requested to take our passports from us which I did not like, the staff member looked at me like I had said something awful when I did not want to hand them over.
The hotel itself is very fresh and modern and the rooms are comfortable, but you may need an extra pillow, a small fridge would have been appreciated to keep our drinks cold, the bathroom was newly renovated and very clean, the windows were double glassed which is helpful as there is a small bar next door and it gets quite loud, you have to have all the windows and doors shut before the air conditioner will work we found out, the breakfast room is very small and cramped, but they do have a luggage lift which was extremely helpful.
My sister and her family had a triple room next to the breakfast room but far enough away not to cause any discomfort, it actually had a nice area between the room and the breakfast room with fake turf and a few plants.
It took us about 30 mins to walk to the train station, although there are buses that go there around the corner and a taxi only costs a few euros, and pleanty of good restaurants with in walking distance.
I don't mean to sound like I didn't like Albergo Verdi because I would definitely stay there again if I go back to Padua, It really was a nice place to stay for the 3 days we were there.

Thanks a lot for your review.
We're delighted that you loved Padova and our small hotel.
Unfortunately, to speed up the check in and to give immediately each guest their room, we sometimes keep the passports at the reception for five minutes, but if someone prefers to have it back immediately, we're happy to give it.

We hope to see you again here
Best regards
Paolo

My wife and I stayed at this delightful hotel for one night last week (October 2013) No complaints at all about the staff or service. In fact the accommodation represented excellent value for money. We are part-time residents of Italy (5 - 6 months each year for the past 4 years) and choose to drive ourselves so that we can experience the smaller villages. This can be somewhat of a problem when entering centro storico of the medieval villages/towns/cities. Padua proved to be one of the worst (when compared to say, Lucca, Verona, Bologna etc) with exceptionally narrow roads which caused the GPS to be "confused". Nonetheless, we have always been able to find our destination and the recommended parking. Unfortunately, the hotel recommended that we park at the nearby Garage Milano. The receptionist quickly realised her mistake when i finally found the hotel. The owner/manager of the garage was the first Italian, in over 4 years, that proved to be unhelpful. In fact, he can be best described as an arrogant [--] of the highest order. He took great delight in being NASTY!!!! As one very bad Italian in 4 years is about as good as it gets we had a couple of Proseccos and did not let the experience spoil our stay at Albergo Verdi. The staff compensated for the extreme rudeness of the neighboring garage. However, whatever you do -DON'T PARK AT GARAGE MILANO!!!!! Recommend leaving car at edge of ZTL (Restricted Zone) and employing the services of a taxi. We have had great experience with Italian taxi drivers. P.S. we eventually parked at the second recommended garage in Via Bonporti, 19. There the owner/manager was the exact opposite of the [--]. He was kind and helpful - A REAL Italian.

Thanks for your opinion.
Actually we don't recommend the garage Milano precisely for this reason (as well as the cost absurd!); the garage Barbarigo is much better. About the streets, unfortunately , 7 years after the changes of the directions, the gps aren't yet updated (althought we have repeatedly mentioned this to the manufacturers!). However, we try to provide the best information possible to reach the hotel.

Fortunately, rude italians are the minority (I hope).

Thanks again and best regards
Paolo

We stayed here part-way through September, when the local area was starting to buzz with returning University students.
Albergo Verdi has a great location in the old town, easily accessible by public transport from Padova station, though streets are a little confusing: we used bus #10, getting off on Corso Milano at the Teatro Verdi stop. The hotel is just a few minutes walk away on the left: on Via Dondi Dall’Orologio – which runs between Via Livello / Via San Nicolo and Via Patriarcato and is called via Accademia further on past the hotel.
There is a tiny lift – useful for the bags. The first-floor room to which we were shown faced the street and was a reasonable size, with a king-size bed (rather firm, and on slightly larger metal frame – initially ‘off-putting’ but didn’t turn out to be a problem), a large wardrobe though no shelves, plenty of space to put our two long bags. Fixtures in the good-size bathroom included a bidet, and there were plenty of good towels.
Light sleepers may prefer a room facing the not-gloomy lightwell, especially if staying on a Wednesday (“University”) night, when exuberant voices in the square and street outside a nearby bar can penetrate the street-facing double-glazed windows. After a disturbed night we spoke to the manager and he was able – and willing – move us to an adjoining, light, interior-facing, very quiet room for the remainder of our stay.
A simple breakfast is included in the rate.
Staff were pleasant and the manager accommodating and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street are quieter.

Dear Mrs Judy,

thanks for what you wrote and for the appreciation of our work. I take this opportunity to add that the "University Wednesday" (mercoledì universitari) is an experience to live here in Padova; you have to try at least once!

I loved our stay in Padova this Spring and it started with our choice of accomodation--Albergo Verdi. I would not say we are picky but we do demand a fair amount of attention from hotel management. Paolo and his staff were among the very best hosts my wife and I have experienced through 40 years of travel. They were so friendly and creative that they even made a special coffee drink for my wife that met perfectly with her tastes--very hot double cappucino with just the right amount of chocolate and milk. They placed it in a special goblet and even gave it a name: "chic-acino." I asked Paolo for all sorts of help with restaurant reservations and my wife needed help finding the right hair stylist. Again and again, they supplied A+ information and suggestions.

Dear Mr David,

I'm delighted to read your review; I remember with great pleasure your stay here (and with a lot of symoathy the "cappuccino" of your wife and your "cappuccino scuro", naturalmente!). We all hope that for your next trip in Italy you can come back to us.

See you soon.

Overall a very good hotel. Very good position in the old town. Nice breakfast, with plenty of condiments, lovely pastries and lovely coffee. Rooms are a little noisy from people coming and going, but if this doesn't bother you then it's ok.
Note: no fridge in rooms, so if u stay for a while this could be a problem.

Easy walk into the centre of Padua, but on a quiet street. Exceptional breakfast for the price. Friendly english- speaking reception staff. Some rooms have compact bathroom. Recommended. Suggest taking a 9 euro taxi from the station if arriving by train.(Nothing more to say really but the app will no accept a review with fewer than 200 characters)

This is a good Hotel for a decent price: clean, good breakfast, free wi-fi, helpful and very friendly staff. Only the interior of the room was kind od 80ties style - not our cup of tea! But otherwise our stay at Albergo Verdi was perfect.

Thanks a lot for your comment; we really appreciated that.
Just a clarification: the interior of the room are not in 80s style, but minimalist and essential design... however, the only thing that really matters, is that you've been comfortably in the room!

Thanks again
