This is a fun, fun place. Belly up to the pint sized bar and just ask the staff for what's good -- and it will be!

Stopped here based on reviews. After finally finding the square (we learned pretty fast that nothing is easy to find in Venice or in Italy for that matter) it was a perfect spot to relax, get an inexpensive drink...my refreshing drink of choice is the infamous "spritz"...and to get a little bite to eat to hold you over for dinner. This was a great Venetian experience close to Rialto but far enough away where it wasn't a madhouse. If we were in Venice longer we would have been to Al Merca at least once a day...great pre-dinner drink spot as well!

We were in venice for the Redentore and After looking around the market we were ready for a rest. We came across this place and saw the a small queue which is always a good sign. The place is only a "hole in wall" so all seating and standing is outside. We had spritz aperol drinks and a plate of mixed meat and cheese buns. Wonderful. This place is also recommended in the great book "Polpo" by Russell Norman. We went back again and we look for it next time we are in Venice. Please note it seems to close at around 2.30 pm when the shutters come down.

Want a real Venetian drink (Spritz) with a very good sandwich, this is the place to be! Honest prices, 2,5/3euro for a spritz and 1,5 for a small but very tasty sandwich is fair! Eat and drink while standing and your almost a real Venetian!

Looking back on our trip to Venice one of my favourite memories is when we fell across this tiny 'hole in the wall' in the square. With family shopping nearby what was I to do? Spritz and a tiny roll filled with Bacalau.....wow. So I had another, and once the others joined me they all did too.
It's places like this that make a holiday, and also make you wish you lived somewhere with relaxed licensing laws and attitudes to public bars......
