“Wonderful lunch at the Palanca Bar, Giudecca”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We have just come back from yet another wonderful lunch at the Palanca Bar on the Giudecca. Andrea and his staff were as charming and helpful as ever. The food was fresh and tasty. And the view as fabulous as any in Venice. We shared a delicious mixed plate of fish anti pasti followed by a fish ravioli and a tuna tartare. And a huge slice of their homemade torta di mandorle and cioccolata. And all at a very good price including wine, sparkling water and coffee. We sat next to man who had eaten there every single day for a week and had really enjoyed the experience.

Reviewed 20 July 2014

Lovely lovely view that is just mesmerizing! I had gluten free pasta with squid ink that was the best i had in Venice. The caprese was excellent. My family had shrimp pasta, and other's had the spagetti with pesto all of us loved our food here. Service was fast, efficient and helpful in english. Love, love, loved! I would eat here daily if i could and have that food and that view.

“So good we ate their twice”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

We were staying on Guidecca right around the corner from this little restaurant (at the Domina Home) for one night prior to a cruise. As we had read such good reviews on TA we called and booked a waterside table. We were meeting up with 2 friends who were just getting off a cruise and 2 friends who were taking the same cruise we were.
The owner Andrea, is one of the most enthusiastic passionate men about his daily menu. Yes, there is a printed menu, but ignore that and just go with Andrea's suggestions of the day...you know it'll be fresh and good. We went with his fish antipasti platter, and then the squidink pasta or the pasta with curried shrimp. All plates were licked clean! Wonderful tiramisu, coffee, beer, proscecco and 2 litres of house wine and I think the bill was less than €200 for the 6 of us. We sat in this beautiful location, possibly the best view in Venice, well away from the madness and tourists of St Marks Sq and had a wonderful very leisurely lunch!. He is not open in the evenings.
And so when we returned from our cruise a week later, DH said he wanted to go there again. Andrea greeted us like old friends and we had a second superb meal. The best tuna tartare ever!

But shhhhhh don't tell anyone about this place as it may get spoilt!

“Fresh tuna steak, great pasta and pleasant service”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We stayed in Rialto during our time in Venice and actually used the water taxi to travel all the way to Guidecca for this restaurant- due to the great reviews from trip advisor. The restaurant is located right on the left hand side (it's the second restaurant you pass on the left) once you get off the water taxi terminal 'La Palanca'. Very easy to find- which is a real treat in Venice as we have struggled and gotten lost trying to find other restaurants throughout our trip.
When we arrived for lunch it was ful outside, we were given the option to sit inisde but due to the spectaculalr view we decided to wait 10 minutes. This quickly turned into 15 minutes but the staff were so friendly and pleasant that we did not mind. Once the table was free they turned it around quickly and we were seated. We ordered the tuna steak (without balsamic vinegar), pomodro pasta and monkfish pasta (which was the special). The monkfish pasta was delicious! The sauce had a tinge of ginger in it which was such al lovely touch, the pomodoro pasta was quite a plain dish to opt for but nevertheless it tasted wonderful, fresh and was just the right size. The tuna steak was delicious as well, and the seasame seed coating was a lovely unique touch.
The staff strongly recommended we try their fish platter starter as they seem to be popular for it however we are not big pickled fish, or fishy flavour fans so decided to give it a miss. Although the table next to us kept ooing and aaing over how wonderful it was, so on that basis I would recommend it!
The menu is quite limited, with no pizza being served, just a few meat dishes (chicken), pastas and a variety of fish but the food is great quality and tastes fresh. The best meal we've had so far in Venice and the cheapest- a big bonus!!!

“Stunning local restaurant and cafe in Venice”
Reviewed 11 July 2014 via mobile

We came across this restaurant and cafe by chance but were so glad to have found it and to subsequently find out its high Tripadvisor rating that it so well deserves. The location is lovely, overlooking the city of Venice from the island of Guidecca but it is the food and the service that set this place apart. We arrived for a late lunch and the restaurant was full of locals. The menu was traditional Italian with lots of pasta and fish. The owner and front of house was one of the most genuinely cheerful and welcoming hosts that I have come across and he made every effort to make us feel welcome as a family with extra bread and recommendations about the menu. He also seemed to speak at least four languages, English, French, German and of course Italian. We opted for pasta dishes, which were superb and some desserts and coffee. Throughout the meal there was great service and a genuinely happy atmosphere as people came and went about their business. You really felt that you were gaining an insight into the local community while enjoying lovely food and a perfect view. With coffee and desserts the bill for 4 was 68 euro including a cover/service charge of 2euro per head. We came back the next morning for breakfast which was as informal and welcoming with good coffee and nice pastries. If you haven't a reason to go to Guidecca when in Venice, you should make this restaurant an excuse to do so. It is close to the Palanca Waterbus stop, just 5 minutes from St Marco on route 2 or route 4.1. A genuinely wonderful place to enjoy good food in beautiful surroundings.
