“Charming hotel in an excellent location”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

So I rolled the dice on this hotel because the original hotel where were we staying didn't have accommodations for triples or quads. I am so glad my gamble paid off!! The staff were extremely personable and helpful. Rooms were clean and bathroom pleasantly larger than the typical Venetian cracker box. The lift large enough to accommodate two plus luggage and breakfast was typical continental but good.
I can't say enough about the location of this hotel. It is so convenient! Make sure that if you take a water taxi they know where to let you off so you don't have to schlepp your bags from the Piazza San Marco! They can let you off (with a little talented navigation) at the bridge right by the hotel.

Room Tip: Choose your local with care or you may have a room with an "interesting" view.

Booked this hotel through Hotwire, so didn't know the hotel before we booked and were a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews. However we were happy with our stay. On the plus side, there is no better location to visit venice than this! We stayed in the separate building, which was only 30s (if that) around the corner to the hotel for breakfast (wasn't a problem for us). The room was clean and had a view of saint marks basilica's roof. The decor wasn't bad, like some others have indicated, in fact was pleasant enough. We also found the staff to be friendly and helpful, for the most part. On the negative side, breakfast wasn't great quality and it was manic in the breakfast room. You do hear the bells from the square, but there are wooden blinds and double glazed windows, so it wasn't very loud and didn't bother us. If you want to stay central, you must expect that! In addition the shower refused to turn off a few times and the temperature control had a mind of its own, which was annoying. But, taking into the account that it's very reasonably priced and excellently located, we were happy with our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We stayed at the Antico Panada (hotel) in Venice, Italy, last month for 2 days. The staff was very nice, knowledgeable, accommodating, spoke English The room was clean, furnished nicely with an excellent bathroom. The location was 2 blocks from San Marco Plaza and surrounded by restaurants. The breakfast much better than the average "continental", the bar/café was closed for renovation but were served coffee/pastries in the afternoon and drinks in the evening in the parlor area. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend to others.

Upon arriving at the main lobby of the hotel, we were told that our room is at another building at a different block. We were directed to it and didn't like the entrance to the room.
Upon entering the room, the air was stuffy and the air-condition was not working at all!
The entire room was creepy too!
We had to open the windows of our rooms and having the smell of cooked food lingers into the room. It was noisy too as a restaurant was located just behind.
The breakfast area was 'infested' by mosquitoes. They should do something about it.

Let me preface this review with a bit of my travel history. I have taken a year off work to travel and this is the ONLY time I have had a problem with a hotel!
I gave this hotel a one star because the location is excellent. However I would not recommend it because of staff attitude and because they tried to put us in a terrible tiny attic room with no air and numerous stairs to climb the last set being actually rickety narrow attic type stairs. Considering the premium price we paid we protested politely and they begrudgingly put us in a somewhat better room. I wonder why the attic room is not a reduced rate on and why are they trying to scam people into staying there for same price as other rooms. Since I was sharing the room with a friend we required two room keys which the front desk clerk rudely refused to provide and from then on treated us very rudely and in fact lied to us when we asked advice on transportation. There are tons of hotels in Venice who are very happy to have your business, why give it to one that is out to scam you. Also mosquitoes are a real problem in this hotel for some reason. There don't appear to be any outside but this hotel is loaded with them.

Room Tip: Best room would be across the street in a different hotel.

We wanted to find a hotel near the Venezia train station so that it would be convenient but almost all of the 3-star hotels that fit our budget were fully booked. So we had no choice but to book at Antico Panada, which was located very far from where we initially intended to stay. But to my surprise, the location of the hotel was very, very nice and strategic. It was just a 3-minute walk away from the center of St. Mark's square. And there were lots of restaurants and shops near the hotel, which made the area very lively, even at night.

We didn't have a hard time finding the hotel, even though it was located in a very narrow alley/street. We just followed the venice map on my iphone.

The lobby was very small. The design of the hotel looked very dated. What can you expect for a 3-star hotel right? The guy at the reception was accommodating. But what ticked us off was that we had to wait for the bellboy or doorman before we could go up to our rooms because he apparently had all the room keys with him, which we found very odd (that the front desk didn't have the keys). Anyway, we waited for about 15 minutes before he finally came back to the hotel. He showed us to our rooms, he didn't even had to carry our luggage because it wasn't a lot anyway. There was a small elevator and a small stair for those staying on the second floor.

The room size was decent enough. The design again was dated. The closet size was good. The beddings looked old and dirty but were clean. They just looked dirty haha. The toilet was also a decent size although the sink and watercloset were very small.

Breakfast was okay but not the best. They had the same food selection every time. We loved their Filipino staff which were very pleasant and helpful. They made sure that we had everything we needed.

The hotel is perfect for those looking for a budget hotel, located very near the biggest tourist attraction in Venice, which is St. Mark's Square. It is also very convenient for those who want to visit Murano island since the water bus station to the island was a quick walk from the Square. For those who want luxury and a nice ambiance, this isn't your hotel.

We wouldn't mind staying here again the next time we visit Venice.

I thought the location of the Hotel was excellent - reasonably close to one of the ferry stations (for transporting luggage - only one pedestrian bridge to cross) - and almost backing onto St Mark's square.
Although the location was good the Hotel itself was a bit tired with dingy decor and furnishings in a rather cramped room. Mosquito infestation was equally troublesome, so if you are considering using - take plenty of repellant.
