This hotels crowning glory is its location and courtyard garden where you can have breakfast.
Its situated in a quiet area of Venice not far from Piazzale Roma, which means a very short walk with cases. Its on a lovely canal with some great bars and restaurants nearby.

Due to availability we could only book a standard room. The room was very small with a very small shower room which is really not a problem when staying just a few nights but I should imagine any longer it could get on your nerves. Mind you, at the same time you really don't spend alot of time in your room when visiting venice anyway.

At breakfast there was a good selection but if you want hot food at breakfast then this isn't the place for you.
Other than the room size my only complaint was not being able to get a drink from the bar at 10pm, there was only one person on duty at reception and she was unable to leave it and get us some drinks which I understand but why have a bar if it can't be used, having said that there is a small excellent bar next door.
I would definately return again, mainly because if its location.

hotel has a fantastic location, near all the water bus stops, you can walk to san marco but quiet and venisian. the staff are the best part, so pleasant and helpful. they have handouts for buses and trains. they can recommend restaurants and book for you and you get the discount. the restaurants are well worth a recommendation. you really feel the staff want you to enjoy your visit to the full. its a great hotel and gets better each time we go. i have recommended this hotel so many times and all my friends agree it is excellent value and gives a great experience. that garden restaurant for breakfast and the canal outside are just wonderful.

We travelled to the Venice for carnival and found this hotel to be the most reasonable, not cheapest, in a town for the weekend. The hotel is only about a 5 minute walk from the central bus terminal. (We took the bus from the airport for 6 euros roundtrip, cabs are @ 35 euros and can only take you as far as to the central terminal.) The hotel was right beside a small bridge and very picturesque! Once inside, the building was very charming and the staff was really friendly just as all of the reviewers have mentioned. The porter took our bags and showed us to our rooms, where he showed us where everthing was, safe, mini-bar, etc. (Not that the room was large, but thought the overview of the room and details on facility was a nice touch.) The room itself was comfortable, but somewhat dated, view of the canal was very good. The breakfast buffet was typical- breads, fruits, cheesse, meat, etc., but everything was always full and fresh. (We were there during carnival, so the hotel was busy and we did have an issue getting a seat 1 day, but we only had to wait 10 minutes, so not a big deal.) We were able to walk to the major attractions from the hotel, no problem...lots of small streets to explore and shop, which is what we did so couldn't say how long it is to San Marco.
We also, took advantage of the free taxi over to Murano to explore and shop, the front desk arranged this for us. (Just keep in mind you need to get your own way back, but the vaporetto was easy to use.) Overall, thought it was a nice hotel and more importantly the staff was always ready to give us information or answer our questions.

We arrived at Piazzale Roma, Hotel Al Sole was only a short walk from there. It is far enough however that you are not even aware of it. We enjoyed being in the San Polo district as we were away from the touristy areas, and we were experiencing the real Venice.

The building is attractive, and being situated on a canal near a bridge I spent hours people watching from our hotel window. The room was a nice size, though not terribly large. However the beautiful gothic stone windows and attractive decoration more than made up for it. You don't visit Venice and stay in your room! There is a lift, so if you've been walking all day you can treat your feet!

The breakfast was continental with cereals, yoghurts, pastries, rolls, cheese, ham, fruit etc, plenty to eat. The staff are very polite and knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make the stay a comfortable one. We only stayed two nights, and will certainly return to Hotel Al Sole again.

Fab location (get the bus from airport for 6 euros return) to piazzale roma and very short walk then to hotel, situated on a small canal, surrounded by shops, restaurants and a short walk to Rialto, San Marco etc. Luigi on reception is excellent and the most helpful hotel staff member I have ever met and speaks english.
Good breakfast selection, bread, cereal, croissants, ham, cheese, fruit etc. Rooms are basic but very clean (brick wall view unless you pay for garden view - but who needs a view in your room - get out and walk!).

Upon arrival the Aqua Alta prevented me from getting along the street to where I guessed the hotel was...there was nothing to do except take off my shoes and socks and roll up my trousers and wade over to the lobby - this too was flooded with 100mm of water...but the staff were calm and obviously used to it and reflecting upon it one is in Venice - so it made the experience genuine.
Lovely room overlooking the canal.
Shops nearby to stock up on bottled water and supplies.
Great part of town near everything - and Venice is so delightfully small - walking everywhere, hearing watching people living: FABULOUS
