Just back from four nights at Al Sole with a group of friends on an art history trip. It was recommended by other friends who have spent a lot of time in Venice and couldn t recommend it highly enough . They were right . It's a lovely old canal-side building in a near perfect location -less than ten minutes' walk from the Piazzale Roma but certainly off the beaten tourist track. Our room was large - simply furnished with a good bathroom. I awoke every morning to the smell of croissants baking downstairs - a good incentive to get down there and enjoy a very generous breakfast ( eggs, ham, cheese, a variety of croissants, cereals, yogurt ,excellent coffee) in the courtyard garden below . The staff were all delightful - couldn t have been more helpful in booking restaurants, water taxis and so on. I would certainly stay there next time . If there is one small cavil it is that wi-fi is not free , but then it means you are not encourage to waste time on the internet when you should be out soaking up Venice

We spent 3 nights in this hotel in March 2014. It is very convenient for the train and bus stations. The ground floor areas are very attractive. Rooms are small but nicely decorated. Very nice bathroom. Walls are quite thin so we could hear the conversation next door!
Good breakfast with decent coffee, albeit from a machine. I am always puzzled at the orange juice in Italian hotels. When oranges grow in the streets why do they not serve real orange juice at breakfast?
Be prepared to take a detour if there is aqua alta.
Overall very good value for money. I have recommended the hotel to friends and we will definitely stay there again

We are just back from the Al Sole and from start to finish we were impressed with location, staff, cleanliness and availability of restaurants close by. Breakfast was lovely; the coffee particularly good. This was a great find and deserves the great reviews - can't recommend it enough.

My wife and I recently stayed 3 nights in a third floor canal view room. Overall the room was very good ; clean ,well serviced and adequately furnished with a very comfortable bed. The only negative was the bath had rusting where it joined the shower screen : - something minor and hopefully to be resolved. Reception staff were exceptionally helpful. Many other hotels could benefit from placing some of their staff at the Al Sole to learn how to provide high quality customer service. Breakfast was , as to be expected, continental style, of a pretty reasonable quality, and well presented. The location is excellent if a ) you wish to be near the Piazzale Roma thus avoiding dragging your luggage across Venice on arrival and departure and b) do not wish to be staying near the tourist hotspots around St Marks Square. Hotel rooms in Venice are expensive and we felt the price we paid was pretty average for this standard of hotel in Venice although importantly we felt the service far better than average. We would certainly stay here again

This hotel was perfect. It has the old world charm of Venice inside and out. The room was larger than most and although the decor was dated, so is Venice! It fit in perfectly! The location is great as its minutes from the train station and you can walk there even with luggage. Waking up each morning to the church bells was a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Valentina who let me practice my Italian with her. Breakfast was typical with breads, cheeses and fruits. Its not the nearest to St. Mark's square but we walked it anyway and also used the water buses which were near by. It was a wonderful experience overall.

I stayed here for a week at the end of March, 2014. I had a third-floor, canal view room. It was perfectly quiet, perfectly clean. There was a excellent view of a local canal. The staff were friendly, the breakfast basic but pleasant.

I chose it as it's close to the bus station, so it's only a few hundred metres (and, more importantly, just two bridges) to drag a suitcase. There's a wide range of local restaurants (there's no on-site restaurant). It's a fair walk to the major sights of St Marks etc, but the Rialto is only 15-20 min away, and many of the closer churches and sights are gorgeous -- and being a long way from the tourist blackhole of St Marks, quieter too.

I only have two criticisms -- BBC World didn't work, and the pillows could have been fluffier. Neither are the end of the world.

I would gladly stay here again.

Room Tip: Mine was third floor, canal view. Ideal. I didn't see any others so cannot comment on them. P...

I stayed in this hotel at july2013. Booked the hotel online and when arrived was very impressed by the hotel exterior. First thing the man at the reception told me was go see the room and tell me if you want to stay here !!!! After checking in i understood why he had asked me this. The room was clean but very ugly i got the upgraded room but my friends stayed in standard room and the rooms where awful. The bathroom was clean. The building is in bad shape and it gives you the feel it is going to fall every moment .. Very creepy . The breakfast was poor

Dear Guest,
thank you for expressing your opinions, i can assure that none of the staff reception would never say to anybody a wild thing like the one you reported, our staff is trained to work to the maximum of professionalism and the votes that can be found on Internet concerning the staff are always very high. i think, therefore, that at the basis of his statement there is a misunderstanding.
Sorry that you did not appreciated the hotel, however i like to clarify for other guests that the building does not run any danger of collapse, was built 600 years ago and hopefully it can resist at least that many.
Thank you for your attention.
