We stayed at Al Sole for 5 nights at the end of April and it was a fabulous break. The hotel is in a great location, just 5 minutes walk from the bus station which is great as trying to find a hotel in Venice can be a nightmare. Lovely building and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was very clean, shower cubicle was not for the overweight but adequate. Bed was comfy and location of the room was so quiet which was great. Breakfast was good with enough choice and you could eat outside in the courtyard. Canal just in front and a lovely bar next door. Plenty of restaurants nearby and would recommend it; in fact friends of ours have just booked for the end of this month.

We stayed here in mid-April on an art history trip. The location is excellent, both in terms of travelling (5 minutes from Piazzale Roma for the bus) and for exploring. We typically walked to every part of Venice on our trip from here, but we felt well away from the crowds. The hotel is on a path that runs by a canal, so views canal-side are lovely. At the back is a garden where you can have breakfast. Our room was very large with decent bathroom and bed, though the continental pillows can be a bit harsh. There wasn't masses of storage space for clothes apart from a generous wardrobe, but that wasn't really an issue given our stay of 4 days.

The staff were all very helpful and friendly and even knew me by name, which was quite impressive. They booked restaurants, helped with bus timetables and even let me check-in for my return flight on their desk computer rather than paying for an internet connection.

I am very happy to recommend Al Sole and would certainly use it again.

Room Tip: The larger canal side rooms are spacious though more expensive, and if students are out celebrating their graduation it can be a bit noisy (part of the atmosphere!). If you want to keep the cost down a standard garden view will be smaller but equally comfortable.

Just back from four nights at Al Sole with a group of friends on an art history trip. It was recommended by other friends who have spent a lot of time in Venice and couldn t recommend it highly enough . They were right . It's a lovely old canal-side building in a near perfect location -less than ten minutes' walk from the Piazzale Roma but certainly off the beaten tourist track. Our room was large - simply furnished with a good bathroom. I awoke every morning to the smell of croissants baking downstairs - a good incentive to get down there and enjoy a very generous breakfast ( eggs, ham, cheese, a variety of croissants, cereals, yogurt ,excellent coffee) in the courtyard garden below . The staff were all delightful - couldn t have been more helpful in booking restaurants, water taxis and so on. I would certainly stay there next time . If there is one small cavil it is that wi-fi is not free , but then it means you are not encourage to waste time on the internet when you should be out soaking up Venice

We spent 3 nights in this hotel in March 2014. It is very convenient for the train and bus stations. The ground floor areas are very attractive. Rooms are small but nicely decorated. Very nice bathroom. Walls are quite thin so we could hear the conversation next door!
Good breakfast with decent coffee, albeit from a machine. I am always puzzled at the orange juice in Italian hotels. When oranges grow in the streets why do they not serve real orange juice at breakfast?
Be prepared to take a detour if there is aqua alta.
Overall very good value for money. I have recommended the hotel to friends and we will definitely stay there again

We are just back from the Al Sole and from start to finish we were impressed with location, staff, cleanliness and availability of restaurants close by. Breakfast was lovely; the coffee particularly good. This was a great find and deserves the great reviews - can't recommend it enough.
