Contrary to some reviews here, I found this hotel inconvenient to the train station and the vaparetto/Grand Canal. Next time I will try to find a hotel close to the Grand Canal near one of the vaparetto stops, and just take the vaparetto from the train station. I was also surprised that the only eggs they had at breakfast were hard boiled.

On the positive side, the hotel front desk staff were absolutely wonderful and helpful!! The neighborhood was great, too with lots of nice restaurants and shops.

Dear Guest,

thank you for expressing your opinion, we regret that you consider our position as "inconvenient".
Usually, being a 10 minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes walk from two vaporetto stops (P.le Roma and S. Tomà), as well as 5 minutes from the Grand Canal, the position is universally considered as good, we say this to the people who read this review.
Anyway we respect your opinion and we thank you again for stayng with us at Al Sole and we hope you have a wonderful memory of your vacation in Venice.
With our best regards.

We recently stayed at the Al Sole which is close to both the Bus and Railway Station (we arrived by coach). It was also relatively easy to get to the heart of the City and after all Venice is predominately a walking holiday. Our room was fine, a superior room with a canal view which was most interesting. We were disappointed that there were no Tea and Coffee making facilities which we thought were advertised in the hotel offering. I went to reception and asked and the helpful young lady interpreted my request as wanting a kettle yet nothing ever materialised. Breakfast was taken in a charming courtyard and the content was more than adequate. We felt it was quite expensive for what was offered but as its position for us was what we wanted we were prepared to pay (€205 per night). Clean and facilities in general were to a good standard.

The hotel is very near the train station and Toma ferry station, and is only a few stops from San Marco ferry station. Room is quite small but probably is the same across Venice. The aircon is quite cool and quiet.

Spent 2 nights in al sole hotel in a double room. Authentic Venetian hotel in a quiet location within walking distance of main attractions.lovely situation looking over canal from the front. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast adequate. Disappointing that there were no other meals available and bar limited. We were told bar was open until 11 pm however this is not the case. Garden terrace where you could eat breakfast weather permitting very pretty.
Double bedroom apparently looked out onto a wall but we could not get bedroom shutters open. Bedroom cramped and in need of a little tlc however was clean and adequate for our stay we had requested a high floor, but ended up on first floor. . Best description of this hotel is shabby chic,
Nearby restaurants good and reasonably priced, however everything around seemed to close quite early.
Overall a good base from which to see Venice but I feel 3 star at best.

Room Tip: Request a room looking out to front of hotel.

Great hotel (my first stay, though originally recommended in a Guardian review)! Room/ bathroom spotlessly clean, though some minor irritations - room not set up as 'twin' on arrival as booked/requested; in-room safe didn't lock; and the odd mozzy (take precautions!). Approx 10 mins walk from bus (from airport) or train stations. Character property, quiet location, great courtyard for breakfast (weather permitting), though room (218) rather austere. Extremely helpful and professional staff. Will definitely return!

What a fantastic hotel to spend 5 nights in while seeing the sights of Venice. From the beginning the staff were friendly yet efficient, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable and a leisurely breakfast in the pretty patio area was sufficient to set you up for a day of sightseeing. We were upgraded to a junior suite overlooking the canal, such a wonderful view to wake up to and yet at night with shutters down, it was not noisy ( would recommend canal view if possible). The Hotel will book a meal with 10% discount at 2 local restaurants, book music evening, gondola or water taxi.
This was a little haven and after a day of walking and walking was lovely to come back to in the evening to relax with a glass of wine on the patio before partaking of an evening meal.
It is ideally situated near to Piazzale Roma making travel to and from the City relatively easy and yet only a 20 minute walk to Accademia or the Rialto area. Would definitely recommend and stay there another time.

Room Tip: Try for a Junior Suite overlooking the canal

Staying here for 4 days, we found the hotel to be excellent. It was clean, the staff helpful and friendly, the continental breakfast very adequate, the walled garden was really nice for breakfast and for our sandwich lunches (sandwiches from a stall in Piazzale Roma), and the room a good size. The bed was also very good; and the aircon quiet and effective. The location was just what we wanted, near to Piazzale Roma (about 500m) for the bus to the airport, the water busses, and the railway station. It was also near to local restaurants, and a cake shop, which sold large bottles of water for 2 Euros. Being just that bit away from the Grand Canal, it was quieter and the prices a bit more reasonable (but Venice is not cheap!). My only very minor criticism, is that the shower was a bit cramped, within the same space, it could have been better designed, but this is trivial really. If we go back to Venice, we will go to this hotel.

Room Tip: We had a garden room, which was very quiet.
