We stayed here two nights at the end of our two week Northern Italy tour (Room 111), and I was surprised to find a newly renovated hotel with average rooms. Sleek and modern looking, there was virally no storage in the room (no drawers or shelves anywhere), very little hanging space, no shelves or storage at l in the bathroom! Did they really pay someone to design this? The room had little if any soundproofing. We could hear people walking in the room above (no carpeting), as well as voices from the hallway and outside our window. The bathtub/shower is so tall that you need a stool to get in (and Im 6 feet tall!). The placement of the hairdryer and mirror impedes user of the sink and mirror. It's very pretty but doesn't function well at all. On the positive side, it is well located n a quieter area of Venice near the water transportation, and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I'm not sure how you fix it now that it's built, but adding storage and soft close toilet seats (so they didn't slam shut) would go a long way.

The hotel is very welcoming and elegant looking upon arrival. Throughout our stay Julian on the front desk was very helpful with booking restaurants and offering local information and all the staff were polite.

Our room was on the 1st floor and was nice and clean and the bathroom was particularly inviting with it's large shower. We had big windows opening onto an internal courtyard which we thought were great until we realised that without the lights on made it extremely dark and gloomy. As there is a building with its windows facing you about 3 metres away you have to keep the curtains closed most of the time if you want any privacy. We were told we were upgraded to a triple room which I have to say I have no idea how that is an upgrade as we were only two people but perhaps it was a metre longer?? The hotel tends to switch the air conditioning off (I had read this on another review before we stayed) and you have to phone the front desk to ask them to switch it back on. Due to this the room was very stuffy when we got back to our room in the evenings so we opened the windows for some air before bed and unfortunately woke up with upwards of 20 mosquito bites which were mainly on my face. Horrendous! You can also hear the people upstairs walking around their room. The worst thing about this hotel room though is definitely the bed. The mattress is completely hard and sunken in on both sides (photo attached) with a raised bit in the middle where it hasn't been slept on and the hardest pillows. This is most definitely the most uncomfortable hotel stay we have ever experienced. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and a very rare weekend without our children and so looking forward to feeling refreshed after our stay but instead we are covered in red swollen bites all over and exhausted from two terrible nights sleep. It was actually a relief to get home to our own bed. That is not how you are supposed to feel after staying at a 'luxury' hotel. We did not choose the cheapest room selection so this was very disappointing considering this a very expensive hotel. Definitely not worth £300 per night.

The hotel bar was nice for some pre-dinner drinks and the staff again were friendly. The wines and beer on offer were great!

The breakfast room was lovely however breakfast was very average. We were really looking forward to some great offerings but it just did not wow. Very sloppy tasteless scrambled eggs, bacon was good but mushrooms appear tinned and tasted really awful. The fresh fruit and yoghurts were great. However the pastries left a lot to be desired and the cappuccino on both mornings was luke warm.

We liked the location of the hotel as it is really close to the Vaporetto and it is situated in a less touristy area and therefore a lot quieter.

To sum this hotel up it is lovely to look at but not great to stay at. I would not personally choose this hotel again based on the room.

Dear CQALF
Thanks for your feedback.
I''m realy sorry if anything during your staying in Venice, at Palazzo Veneziano, did not match with your expectation.
We try to describe or room in the most truthful way, size in sqm, description of the facilities, pictures of the room and position too. Classic and Classic Triple [the one that you had] are facing the internal courtyard with other windows in front of them, at more or less 4/5mts of distance. Off course rooms on the first floor have less light then rooms on the fourth floor. Classic Triple are approximately 3sqm larger then Classic and have a chaise longue more than them. The air conditioning system can be regulated room by room and also from the general system at the desk while usually we suggest to not open the windows during the night, since in Venice there're mosquitos due to the general condition of the lagoon itself. Even if all the matresses and beds are all new, we know that it is really a personal question to finding them totally comfortable or not, due to this we have toppers and 3 different kind of pillows [from hard to soft] to subdue to all our customers that could have necessity of them.

Even if we try to be prepared with all the measure to face any problem, we remain also at the complete disposal for all our guests for a total change of room, or any other request [we even have some beds and matreses more to exchange completely with any broken or damaged one, in case] that occur.

In any case and without any doubt, if your staying with us was not as expected, I totally take this as our responsability and I do really apologise for anything we could have done to completely satisfy your expectation. I remain at your disposal if you would like to contact me and explain me if you have any other feedback or suggestion to improve our standards and I do hope to have a second possibility to chenge you feedback to a totally positive one.

With all my best regards

This was the first stop on our trip to Italy. The hotel was newly redone. The rooms were fantastic, the staff was great and the breakfast was perfect. Perfect location to both water taxi and water bus

I had booked to stay for 3 nights in this hotel with my friends from 30 Sep 2018. On arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who informed us they have upgraded our room from the duplex family room to a family suite with canal view. We accepted the offer with gratitude but soon realised that the facilities of the two rooms are rather different. The duplex room is split level with a shower room and a small bathroom while the family suite has only one bathroom. There is also a significant difference in the size of the rooms - 43 sq m for the duplex room and 36 sq m for the family suite. We found that the safe deposit in our room was out of order and the air con was not working (on the first night) and additionally water was leaking from the shower screen petition in the bathroom (noticed on the second night). Despite reporting the problems promptly, the repair work remained unaccomplished. On our last day, we had lost our faith that the room would be in a good state of repair when we return from our day out, we requested to be moved back to the duplex room that we had originally booked but were told there was none available. We could not help but to think that the upgrade was with a hidden agenda and that we had been short-changed. Nevertheless, we had accepted the offer to be moved to another family room with fewer facilities on our final night.

The experience with the restaurant was more astonishing and extraordinary than that with the rooms. The selection of food for buffet breakfast was fine for a 4 star hotel in Venice and breakfast on the first day was uneventful. On the second day, my friend was alarmed and shaken to find a small black fly roaming inside a piece of the parma ham on her dinner plate. She froze in shock and I had to come to her assistance by summoning the waitress. The waitress removed the plate rapidly and carried on as if nothing had happened. We thought an apology or at least a verbal acknowledgement of the incident would take place but it did not happen. The extraordinary experience continued on our last day, the same friend found a dead fly embedded in the scrambled egg. We had no confidence that by reporting the incident to the restaurant staff, appropriate action would be taken, so we took a picture of the fly in the egg in order to share the experience with future guests. The photo has been duly uploaded to this website.

Despite our unusual experiences, I would like to highlight my appreciation of the hospitality and helpfulness of the reception staff, who were responsive to my request to retrieve a personal shower towel that went missing during transfer of rooms on our last night. It was reunited with me before my departure from Venice the following day.

Room tip: Don't take up any offer of upgraded rooms, adhere to your original choice

We stayed at Palazzo Veneziano for two nights in late Sept and thoroughly enjoyed our time. We have stayed at Palazzo Carnival and was thrilled to know this was an affiliated hotel.

Our check in was really smooth and the concierge lady was extremely friendly and also upgraded us to a bigger size room.

Location:
• This was not right in the middle of Venice nor too close to the main attractions but it is in a much quieter part which we loved. Very close to supermarkets and nice restaurants
• The walk into the main parts ranged from 10-20 mins but there is a ferry bus port 2 mins up from the hotel

Room Quality:
• The room was quite big for typical rooms with a large bed and shower
• The room was quite clean with a small balcony but there wasn’t much of a view but that didn’t bother us

Breakfast
• Was ample in size with a lot of fresh fruits and juices

If you don’t mind the walking then this is a great place to stay for a short trip (2-4) days as you enter into the business of the main parts of Venice but escape to a quieter part of town when you want to with enough to keep you busy
